After getting all the necessary information from the maid about her duties and rules of 'the great manor', Laila decided to go to Ruth and see if she needed anything. She knocked on the door of Ruth's chamber but did not get any response.
She tried multiple times but to no avail. Laila began to worry and did not know what to do. She was about to go to Elsie and ask her for help when she almost bumped into someone.
"Be careful child! What are you doing here?" The old lady asked.
"Who... who are you?" Laila asked, trying to recall if she knew this woman. Then her face struck her. She had seen that woman at her brother's funeral.
She was a human.
"My name is Mrs Payne. Aren't you Henry's sister?" Mrs Payne tilted her head in recognition.
Laila nodded her head. "Yes. Mrs Payne, can you please help me?"
"Of course dear! What do you want my help for?"
