Two hours had passed, and Mrs Payne sat beside Ruth, holding her hand in hers. The tears had long dried on her face. All she prayed was for Ruth to open her eyes.
Edwin instantly called Mrs Payne after Ruth passed out. Of course, he did not forget to cover her with a dress and made the room a little presentable. Yet his mark that sat smirking at the world on her neck told Mrs Payne what had transpired between the two last night.
Besides, Fannie was not the only one who had to endure Ruth's screams of pain and pleasure.
When Edwin told Mrs Payne that he had revealed Darius's truth to Ruth, she was shocked yet nodded after swallowing it. She knew it was inevitable. Sooner or later, Ruth had to know the truth.
At least she was relieved that she got to know it from Edwin and not someone else. But now, the chances were there of her feeling betrayed again by her mate. And Edwin knew it. Perhaps that was why he called Mrs Payne to speak with Ruth before he had to face her.
