The strange sounds fell on his ears. He could not make out what they were, but they were there, prominent and undeniable. Something trickled down his chest... like water.
He tried to move his body, but it was all wet and sticky. As he tried to make sense of his surroundings, a sharp reminder of a burn on his throat slapped him in the face. His face scrunched up, brows furrowed and teeth greeted against each other as that burning sensation intensified as he regained consciousness.
He again heard those strange voices, only nearer to him this time. As if they were directed at him only. He felt his body shaking. No, it was not due to fever or fear or anything like that. Someone was shaking him, trying to tell him something.
His lips parted as something again trickled down the side of his face. He began dragging the air through his mouth and storing it in his chest. He needed the energy to move his body which felt limp.
