Edwin's head became heavy with what Mrs Payne just said. Out of all the possibilities, he didn't expect her to say that.
Panic filled his chest. They were supposed to leave for the very same place in about two hours, and now only Mrs Payne decided to reveal that he had to save Ruth from Larnwick.
"Is this some kind of a joke, Mrs Payne? Why the hell didn't you tell me this before? I would have not taken Ruth with me if I had even the slightest of the idea about this.
What am I supposed to tell her now?" This was the first time Edwin lost his temper at the old woman.
Yet he tried to remain as respectful as he could.
