"Everything is going to be fine! Don't worry. I am always here for you!" Edwin placed a peck on Ruth's head in encouragement as they paused outside the dining room where his family was waiting for them.
Ruth smiled gratefully and was now ready for the 'family' dinner!
In the dining room, all members of the O'Dell family, Lester and Lord and Lady Longhurst sat in their respective places. Fannie stood behind Theodora, feeling jittery to face Edwin.
She did not understand how she had not yet heard about Ruth's death and why everyone was still so calm and was expecting Edwin and Ruth to join them.
But she was sure that any moment Edwin would barge into the room, raging in fury at the loss of his so-called love. Fannie could not hide her smirk but then glanced around quickly to see if someone noticed it. Fortunately, nobody did.
Thea was also there waiting for Edwin, and as Elsie's head maid, Ida stood behind her chair to tend to her needs.
