Edwin had no idea of what was going on in Ruth's head. He just knew that he had to trust her, but he could not help but worry about the look she just gave him. He stood a few steps behind her such that he could have a good look at her and the Shade.
He watched as she stood in front of that Shade, demanding all his attention. He could hear her heart which had picked up the pace a few seconds ago, begin to relax slowly.
Ruth had thought well through it and now was the time.
She looked at the Shade straight into his eyes. He must have sensed something because he fought with the drowsiness and stared back into her eyes.
Ruth began to concentrate on her breathing, pulling her every sense under her control. She focused her mind and will on what she wanted, forgetting about her surroundings. She forgot that Edwin was right there watching her.
She forgot the fear she had about the aftermath of this. She concentrated all of her attention on the Shade in front of her.
