"E-Edwin?"
He looked up to see Ruth standing in the door between their chambers. Her hands held onto the metal knobs as she stared at every face in confusion. The fatigue on her face was clear.
Ruth did not miss that strange look in every pair of eyes except the two- One was of Mrs Payne's and the other was approaching her without breaking their contact.
Edwin stood in front of Ruth. His cerulean blue eyes roamed all over her face, following every line and detail. He offered her his hand, and she slowly accepted it. She needed him anyway.
Edwin pulled her into a hug wrapping his arms around her. Ruth was shy, and thus he stood between her and the onlookers like a firm wall.
He felt her relaxing in his touch. And to him, she felt just like the way he remembered... his solace!
Edwin planted a soft kiss on top of her head before pulling away. He walked her back to where he sat before and made her sit beside him. His hand did not let go of hers.
