Elsie was still trying to find a chance to get her hands on Augustus's journal. It had been more than half an hour since she had engaged him in a conversation.
Now was the time for the next step of her plan.
"Father, would you like to go on a walk with me? Just like the old days?" She looked at Augustus hopefully.
Augustus looked thoughtful for a moment. He did not have much work to do but for some reason, he felt weird. Perhaps it was because they had not gone on a walk together in a long time. But he could get that chance as a refreshment from his mundane life.
"Of course, let's go!" He smiled at his daughter.
Elsie showed her excitement with thank you and pulled his hand to stand up.
"Come on, let's go!" She walked ahead, still holding his hand, which reminded Augustus of a ten-year-old girl.
She used to hold his hand in the same way as she ran in front of him with a wide smile. Ida and Ruth heard the sound of the door opening, and they immediately hid from Augustus's view.
