Skyla hopped on her bike and rode towards her university, Savanna University while humming a tune. Along the way, she heard someone shout, "Skyla, you are late again for your class"
Skyla turned towards the shopkeeper who had a box of groceries on his hand with a cheeky grin plastered on his face.
She threw him a peace sign as she passed by him making him shake his head hopelessly.
"Make sure they don't punish you again", he shouted
Skyla waved her hand without turning back as she picked up speed towards her university. She was sure she could reach her university within five minutes.
When she turned around the corner, she saw a weak kitten crying pitifully near a dustbin making her stop in her tracks. Parking her bike off the road, she walked towards the kitten and squatted. She reached her finger out and rubbed the kitten's cheek as she mumbled, "Why are you here alone, little kitty?"
The kitten meows loudly as it rubbed its cheek against her finger making Skyla let out a sad smile.
"Did your parents abandon you, like mine?" she asked softly as she took out a snack from her bag and fed it to the kitten.
Her lips curved when she noticed the kitten eating hungrily from her palm. Skyla sighed as she looked up towards the bright blue sky in contrast to what she was feeling. She felt like she was standing at the edge of her sanity and one push was all it took for her to be devoured by madness.
Skyla scrunched her brows in pain when she noticed the little paws of the kitten scratched her bandage making it red in an instant.
"Crap" she hissed as she took her hand back and examined the wound. Thankfully her wound only broke a little making it easy for her. She pursed her lips as she cursed, "That damn voice"
It was all because of that nightmare that her day began on a bad note.
She clenched her hands into a fist, oblivious to the small drop of blood falling on the ground. Shaking her head, she looked at the kitten purring softly and unclenched her hand. She wiped the blood that leaked from her injury and patted its head.
"Look, it's all fine now" and stretched her palm out for the kitten.
The kitten looked at her palm intently before its huge eyes shifted to the blood on the ground. Skyla tilted her head confusedly when she saw the kitten walking away from her hand. Her eyes followed the kitten's directions and noticed the small drop of blood on the ground.
Skyla widened her eyes in horror when she saw the kitten stick its tongue out to lick the blood.
"No, don't do that -" before she could pick the kitten away, she saw its sharp nail expand and a bloody snarl escape its mouth.
She fell back on her feet when she saw the kitten turn around to meet her horror struck gaze. Blood faded away from her face as she looked at the cold blood red eyes of the kitten.
Before she could gather her thoughts, the kitten launched at her and attacked her with her nails. Her eyes widened at the onslaught and dodged the attack. She stood up shakily and looked at the aggressive kitten who was snarling at her.
The weak cute kitten was no longer seen instead standing before her was a fierce aggressive kitten. The kitten growled before it ran towards her leg and bit her making Skyla cry out in pain.
Biting her lips, she picked up the kitten who refused to let go. Gritting through her teeth, she harshly pulled the kitten away and lifted it up.
The kitten growled menacingly as it struck the air with its little paws. Its red blood eyes looked at her coldly making her shiver.
Shaking the disturbing thoughts away, she placed the kitten inside the cardboard box and sealed it shut. Letting out a breath, she calmly took her pen and popped two holes on the box to let the air in.
Straightening up, she looked at the box with conflicting thoughts. Exhaling heavily, she looked at her ankle knowing all too well that there would be a bite mark under the socks. She went towards her bike and hopped on it and looked at the box one last time before she rode away with her messed up thoughts.
She didn't remember when exactly her life began to go downhill. When all crazy and strange things turned her peaceful life into a mess.
And all of it started because of her blood. Would anyone believe it?
The blood flowing in her damn veins turned her life into a nightmare. The slightest taste, smell and sight drove every sane person into monsters making her childhood hell.
From animals to every mankind except her family, all of them turned into monsters for a brief amount of time and attacked her.
She was lucky that she lived till now.
Skyla looked down at her injured hand in distraught.Knitting her brows and chewing her lips, she grumbled softly, "What is wrong with me?"
Gripping the handle tight, she looked towards the road with her eyes clouded in anguish. She could never tell anyone this, not even her grandmother.
She never dared to open up to anyone because this episode usually lasts until the smell or taste of her blood fades away. The attackers in question would wake up confused to see her pale faced and curled up in a ball, bawling her eyes out.
As years passed, she learned to be careful around everyone and everything, avoiding these incidents from happening. Looking at it, now it has been a while since this episode acted up again.
She didn't want people to call her weird or crazy with her strange findings that she decided to hide it
Licking her lips, she shook her head as she repeated in her mind as she did for the past couple of years, "Skyla, it's going to be fine."
After repeating it for like hundred times, her lips curved up as she smiled brightly hiding all her pain within her smile like she used to throughout the years.
Ignoring all the strange occurrences and focusing on living through each day. But one day, she swore to find the truth behind her mysteries and put an end to it. And, she had taken her first step towards her goal by taking up medicine as her career.
"With time, Skyla… all with time" she mumbled.
As Skyla was immersed in her thoughts, her eyes widened when she heard the university bell ringing.
"Crap! Professor Theo is going to murder me" she cursed before she picked up her speed.
