To her dismay, Wang Jingyuan realized that it was the jade token that Mo Xian had gifted her for good luck, which she always carried with her.
"Give it back! That's from my friend!"
Ignoring her cries, the guard brought the jade token to Official Ma, who held it up and studied it with a frown.
"Did you steal this?" Official Ma finally asked.
"No! My friend gifted it to me!" Wang Jingyuan was already upset about how the guards so roughly searched her, and the thought of losing Mo Xian's gift was utterly devastating.
Official Ma waved his adviser over. The two of them studied the token a bit more and then shared a look. A different expression came over Official Ma's face. The adviser leaned over and whispered something in Official Ma's ears.
"Alright, let's take a brief recess before proceeding further. Guards, bring the prisoners back to their cell to await further orders," ordered Official Ma.
