The next day the Finns were active as tomorrow was going to be the day when all the family members were going to visit them. The schedule for today was made and everyone started to work.
Kat prepared breakfast for everyone, and reminded, Oliver to not forget to take leave from his work and also order cake for tomorrow. Oliver ate breakfast, kissed his wife, hugged his daughters, and went to work.
Rain apologized to Kat and Oliver for yesterday to which both of them laughed and hugged her, she was feeling good, so she and Sophie started to discuss the decorations and after the breakfast was done, Rain helped Kat in washing dishes, and then all three went for grocery shopping.
While in the shop Rain tried not to look for Ace or Steven as she won't be seeing them but she unintentionally seems to look for them. They all did shopping for 30 minutes and went back home.
Kat started preparing for dinner. While Sophie and Rain started to put the decorations they bought from the store in different places.
With all the arrangements and work, time went by and night came, as soon as Rain started to go off to bed at 10 she thought about the 1 am meeting. She told herself she would not attend it this time or anytime, she had to get used to this lifestyle. She cant dream of a different world when she is happy here, just like what Sophie hinted yesterday, why not be happy with her parents and human life, though the loss of the life she could have was paining her from the inside, she decided to be as happy with what she has as she can.
Rain opened her eyes slowly and look at the small clock standing on her bedside table, 12:07 Am, it read.
Knock…knock…
She slowly got out of the bed and made her way towards her door thinking, it must be Sophie who is knocking, maybe she had a bad dream or something. While yawning she opened her door, "Had a bad dream?"
Sophie yawned too, "No… it's him, he is in my room, wants to talk to you." She sighed frustrated.
"Tell him to get out or I will call mom." Rain replied stubbornly.
"Ah, please Rain just listen to what he is saying at least. Why are you still angry about not being able to be part of that world?" Sophie was frustrated over how childish they both are behaving and ruining her sleep.
Rain agreed and went to Sophie's room. Steven as usual was sitting over Sophie's bed, he got up as soon as he saw Rain.
"I know a way you can come into that world!" He beamed at her.
Rain was shocked for a second then slowly his words started to sink in her mind and she smiles and cheered, "Really?"
"Yess!" Steven cheered as well.
Sophie watched both of them, and slowly mumbled, "But we need powers for that right?"
Rain looked from Sophie to Steven and Steven looked at her back and nodded while adding, "Yes and once you are 18 you can shift to that world."
"That means 3 years later." Rain sighed with a hint of sadness.
"Excuse me?" Sophie snapped, Rain looked shocked at her sister's sudden anger, and Steven uninterested. "You want to be part of that world so bad that you are upset about 3 years? And after that what? You will leave me after your 3 years is complete?"
"I… No, Sow…" Rain tried.
"What no? What if I don't have powers Rain? Would you not leave me?" Sophie fumed.
Steven was looking at Sophie now when he heard Rain say, "NO, Sow. I won't leave you… and… and if our mom had powers then we both will have them not only one of us… I won't leave you…" She was saying when she watched Steven getting tensed and teary eyes of Sophie. "Am I right?" she asked Steven.
Steven didn't want to reveal this information but now Sophie had done it, she made Rain concentrate on the thing he most hated to say. "Actually, there is the possibility that only one of you may get powers."
"What!?" Rain thundered. What is he saying, what does he mean, I'll have to leave Sophie? If she doesn't have power?
"Yeah but thats only a possibility, there is also a possibility that you both have powers, and also that none of you have power." He tried to calm the situation but made it worse.
"What do you mean? We both can maybe not have powers?" Rain murmured dejectedly.
"Rain, look it's…" Steven was cut in midsentence as Sophie asked, "what are the chances?"
Steven looked at Sophie, he knew that Sophie was smart but he didn't even think that she is this cunning, she was looking at him with accusing eyes, eyes which clearly say, I'll destroy you, eyes that know what she is asking and its answers. Maybe she heard about it from us or maybe she researched or whatnot but she was pressing the hard topics knowingly in front of Rain, She is knowingly making Rain see the impossibilities and negative aspects of her situation. Cunning he thought.
He looked at Rain whose eyes were filled with tears, she looked young, he thought she is just 15, she is going through a lot and she is so young, I don't know why my heart pains for her.
"Look, Rain. I can…" He was cut again.
"Just tell us the chances and then the reasons," Sophie demanded.
While cursing under his breath Steven sigh, "There are only 10% chances that no one has power…" He started with the happy side of the news. Rain's eyes brighten up a little after she hears it.
"And other?" Sophie pushed. Steven looked at her small figure sitting on the bean bag while looking intently at him, the mischievous little devil he thought.
"50% that only one of you have power…" This was a little tough, he looked cautiously at Rain and saw the sadness in her eyes, "and 10% that both of you have it." He exhaled and looked down while his hand runs through his hair.
He heard Sophie getting up from the bean bag but didn't look up, he heard the soft flop of someone sitting on the chair but didn't look up but when he heard the sharp sniff he looked up and saw Rain crying. As soon as their eyes met, Rain asked accusingly, "You knew it all?"
"Yes.. but, look…"
"You must be ordered to not tell right?" Sophie completed his sentence and added, "An applicable lie."
Steven suddenly was getting the feeling of hate for Sophie, but he kept quiet and looked at Rain.
"I am…"
"Sorry? Or happy?" Sophie asked.
"Can you stop?" He fumed
"Stop what, exposing your lies?" She yelled back. Rain stood up and without even looking at either of them walked out of Sophie's room and into her room. Steven watched her go.
"False hopes are most dangerous," Sophie stated while looking at the door to her room.
"Yeah, a 12-year-old knows that, right? Through what? Your tiny experience?" He angrily replied.
"Our parents died, we were living in false hope for 2 years." She chocked.
Steven looked at her feeling bad for yelling at her, she was doing the work of protecting her sister, he still felt angry for all the things she said and her blunt exposing but he also saw how mature she was. He wasn't in any mood to fight so he started to walk towards the window.
"She doesn't have powers." Sophie voiced her doubt. He looked at her surprised, " I think she doesn't."
That was enough, she was trying to put her sister down now, "And you know how?" He questioned her with anger in his voice.
She looked up at him and looked down quickly, "Just because…I can't see them."
"And I think she does, and I will take her to where she belongs soon. You are human but she isn't, she is special and I know it. Don't try to make me think otherwise, keep your mind games to yourself." Saying this he jumped out of the window and started walking towards the fence without looking back.
She is that kind of sister, he thought, who put her sister down so that she can get up in parent's or someone else eyes, she knowingly wants to ruin Rain's happy life.
Sophie looked at the dark figure of Steven ducking and vanishing and started to cry while also trying to close her window, the wind was making it hard to pull in the window and she with a sigh sat down on the chair beside the window, she cried while crossing her hands over the windowsill and putting her head inside them.
Why is this happening? Why am I always the mean one? Why can no one sees how bad it will be? How it will ruin everything if Rain and I are not together?
