Chapter 125 - Faint heat and heartbeats

Sweat rushed down Yana's head wanting to form a swimming pool in the car so she could drown herself. Luka was in a way too good mood! No wonder why! He planned to lure Yana with a nice lunch before condemning her to do his work all day long!

Yana's thoughta at this point went wild. One of her worst nemesis was office work, since the project for the orphanage, Yana knew what it meant to get a slight trauma.

On the other hand, Luka was concerned, "Are you ok? Did you forget something?"

Yana was acting strange because after all, who in their sane mind would want to leave the car while it was going 50km/h? Oh, Luka suddenly had a devastating thought. Maybe Yana hated being with him so much that she wanted to escape this way.

Immediately Luka's spirits fell down a spiral of painful sulking. Two people with respective misunderstandings, silently sitting in the car until they've finally arrived at the restaurant.

Luka quickly got out and skillfully opened door. Seeing Luka being even more dazzling thanks to the sunlight, Yana weirdly calmed down. She had to admit that she was overreacting.

If Luka really forced her to do work, she could just decline. Reassured by this thought, Yana, relaxed, got off the car, "Thanks."

This one thanks lifted Luka's heart from the abyss up into the clouds. With a smile, he held his hand out again, even though he wanted to desperately pull Yana into his arms and hug her.

But he couldn't overstep the line again. Yana seemed to be ok in his presence now, so Luka didn't want her to leave again. To his, very pleasant surprise, Yana grabbed his arm and nodded, "Let's go."

"Yes, let's go," Luka's tender and warm voice made Yana's back itchy as if 100 ants were crawling over it.

Yana briefly closed her eyes as they entered the lift of the skyscraper. Maybe being like this with Luka wasn't too bad. She has been ignoring and avoiding him for too long. She should at least maintain a neutral relationship-

Even if Luka had ulterior motives, she wouldn't be able to figure them out if she stayed away from him. Yes, Yana searched for any excuse that subconsciously put her at ease for wanting to actually spend some time with Luka.

Wasn't this the first time they've properly been alone with the opportunity to enjoy each other's presence and talk? Up until now, each time Yana was alone with Luka, she always had her guards up.

Now it was different. Now Yana only wanted to truly enjoy this short time of peace with Luka. Yana opened her eyes and the first thing she saw was the stupid grin on Luka's face. She involuntarily scowled and took back everything she thought.

This idiot, what was he stupidly grinning for?

"Why are you scowling?" Luka pouted, he never let any of Yana's expressions go unnoticed.

Such a big baby! Why did he always turn into this around her? He was perfectly normal around others?

"Stop trying to act cute," Yana said it harsher than she intended to.

Luka's big blinking eyes met hers, "You don't like me like this?"

"No," BAM- a dab at Luka's attempts to cute his way into Yana's heart.

"I wish the old Luka was here more than… this."

"The old Luka?" Luka's ears pricked up, "You prefer me how?"

The old Luka. Who was the old Luka? The stupid fool back in uni who was annoyed of Yana? Who stupidly let go of Yana and belatedly realised what she meant to him? The CEO who had to act cold and domineering to gain respect? The one who mocked her and played the big bad villain?

Did she really prefer those stupid sides of him rather than his loving, gentle, adorable and caring side? Yana noticed Luka's confused, lost and for some reason slightly angry stare into the air.

"The old Luka, who doesn't act like a big baby and who I can have a normal conversation with. The old Luka who doesn't sulk or pout every second when I say something he doesn't like."

Luka instantly grabbed Yana's hand on his arm afraid she would pull back, "I only act like this because I'm truly hurt by your words. You're always so cold to me."

All of sudden, Luka pulled Yana forward and drove her into a corner where her only choice was to lean closer to Luka.

"I'm serious," Luka's deep and slightly raspy voice was now a whisper gliding around Yana's head as he looked at her cowered form from above. He didn't want to do this but Yana gave him no choice. He had to tell her the truth and make sure she couldn't run away. Indeed, she should properly face him.

The lift was slowly making its way upwards to the 70th floor while Yana heard loud heart beating taking up the small confined space.

She wasn't sure whose it was but more than that she was stunned by Luka's words. Was he telling the truth? Well, obviously anyone felt distressed if they were treated the way Yana treated Luka. She understood this.

"Just be a bit nicer to me," this whisper bound Yana's heart and squeezed it tightly. It was laced with different emotions but mostly pain. Yana found his request was familiar, but she couldn't lose her head. This could be another trap Luka laid out to make her open up to him while he took advantage of her.

However, Yana had to admit that she was really cruel towards Luka. Yana slightly grabbed the rim of Luka's shirt and nodded, then she said, "I know I was quite cold to you, I'm sorry."

"So… So you won't avoid or ignore me anymore?" Yana didn't look at Luka's face but just from his voice alone, Yana heard the happiness, hope and anticipation. This fool. Why was he so happy? In the end, this meant nothing. All of this, would mean nothing, in the face of the end.

But for now, it should be ok if Yana and Luka got closer again. After all, once this mission was over, Yana wouldn't see Luka again.

This was only if Luka truly didn't have an ulterior motive or a connection to 'them' because if he did, then when they met again, it was as enemies and everything would be laid bare. Finally.
