Chapter 77 - Evidence

Yana laughed as she made her way back to the apartment. The others were still sleeping and haven't found out yet.

Of course, something like this would happen. Why didn't Yana think of it sooner?

It was obvious that the managers would blame the arson on her.

Anger welled up in Yana but there was not the slightest bit of panic. Although this was out of Yana's calculation, the fact that this horrible act was pinned on her, didn't mess anything up.

Once Marie got back to Yana, she would proceed as planned before. The only thing she had to take into account was the police. They might arrive any seconds.

If it was possible, Yana would just talk to them but right now, it was obvious that they would instantly detain her instead of just questioning her.

If Yana was stuck in prison she couldn't do anything and she was sure Roy and the others wouldn't help her. She had to do it herself. The reason why even the news reported about Yana being the culprit without waiting to confirm it, was because there was evidence.

Most definitely fabricated evidence, so it wouldn't be easy for Yana to get out.

Even with Luka's help, it wasn't guaranteed to wash herself clean. Yes, Luka might be able to bail Yana out but the public wouldn't be silent. Yana was still a culprit in their eyes who relied on the help of the CEO.

In other words, she would be slandered as a crazy and merciless slut who climbed into bed as she had before.

Without evidence, the real culprits couldn't be found and Yana was sure that even if she told the police the truth, they wouldn't believe her because she had no evidence and as things stood right now, it seemed there was plenty of enough evidence against her.

So, Yana couldn't rely on anyone. If she asked Luka to help her, she was sure he would but this didn't solve anything because Luka couldn't force out the real arsonist.

Not when three major companies were trying to hide the truth.

Yana wasn't sure when the news came out but it seemed like it hasn't even been an hour yet.

But this was no reason for the police not to show up. They should already know where Yana was. There was only one reasonable answer that popped up.

Luka.

Since a while, Yana's phone has been relentlessly going off and as she expected most of the calls were from him.

"Luka?" Yana picked up.

"Yana! Good, you finally picked up! Wait there, I'll come pick you up and then we figure something out, ok?" Luka sounded more anxious and worried than Yana was.

Actually, Yana didn't feel anything but the slight anger that was burning inside of her was quickly pushed down. Being emotional wasn't good.

She would be rational and calm, finish this disastrous situation, turn it into her favour and then finally be over with it.

Yana did as Luka said. She placed all the groceries into the fridge and started cooking. It took Luka a while to arrive since the traffic during the morning time in the centre was always horrible.

The steam rose up when the bell sounded. Yana had to walk for a bit before she reached the door and opened it and had to step back as it seemed like Luka would hug her for a few seconds.

Seeing her avoidance, Luka instead grabbed her shoulders and looked her up and down, "You're fine, right? No one has come and did something to you right?"

Yana saw Luka's messy appearance. He still wore the same outfit as yesterday. To her surprise, Bao wasn't present. It was only Luka who looked like he was going crazy if Yana wasn't safe.

He brushed the hair that stuck to Yana's face because of the steam away and sighed, "Don't worry, I'm looking into this. So, don't panic or-"

"Luka, I'm fine. You're the only one who's panicking," Yana sistanced herself from him and slowly walked away, "Close the door. I'm still cooking in the kitchen, so it's best to hurry."

"Aren't you worried at all?" Luka was clueless as he followed after Yana. Hearing his words, Yana stood still and looked at him, "Should I? I know I'm not guilty. Do you think I've done that?"

"No, of course not! You couldn't have."

"See, then there's no problem," Yana smiled, seeing how Luka seemed like a lost puppy who wanted to gain the favour of its owner.

"But-" Luka ran after Yana into the kitchen, "Just because you aren't guilty, doesn't mean the police and the public will believe you. The evidence-"

"So, there's evidence pointing that I'm the one who did it?" Yana sneered slightly, they've really gone out to fabricate evidence and everything was blamed on Yana.

Just because Yana was a sore in their eyes or because Yana's other suspicion turned out to be true, they resorted to this.

"Yes, I've went to the police as they called me back, since I'm listed as your contact person hehe- ahem, I mean they then showed me the evid-"

"Do you want some extra pepper on yours?"

"W-What?" Luka, who was randomly cut off by Yana, looked at the sunny side up egg on the plate she held, ''What are you doing?"

"Brekkie. You haven't eaten yet have you?"

In an instant, Luka's tail rose and started wagging. Yana was cooking for him! Yana thought about him, Yana cared about him!

Luka was so happy he could even devour the plate.

While his happy face and big grin gave him away, Luka still tried to act calm, "This isn't the time! Yana, you-"

"We can talk while eating right? Being on an empty stomach isn't good," Yana carried the plates to the dinner table before Luka raced to the kitchen to bring the cutlery, so Yana didn't have to move back. Yana couldn't help but giggle seeing Luka.

He was still in his business suit but it was so tattered and worn out that Luka looked ridiculous. On one side, his face and movements showed his hurry and worry while on the other side, it was obvious how happy he was.

Luka had long taken off his jacket, so he only wore a white shirt with sleeves rolled up before smiling at Yana and said, "I still remember when you did the lunchbox for me the first time. Did ever tell you how it tasted?"

Yana's ears perked up. Luka still remembered that?

Thinking about the time she clung and chased after Luka for that stupid project that became useless anyways, embarrassment crept up.

If Yana could go back, she would've strangled herself for being so clingy.

Suppressing her shame, Yana asked, "How was it?"

"Fade."

BAM. A boulder came rolling over her.

It seemed like her facial expression said enough as Luka laughed, "But it was still good because it was my first homemade meal I've had in a long while."

Yana froze. That simple lunchbox had so much meaning? Yana felt uncomfortable again.

She didn't dare to look at Luka as she cut her egg and changed the topic, "So what about the evidence?"
