Yana's gaze moved from the document to Carol. The shift in Carol's emotions was too obvious not to notice yet Yana remained unimpressed.
"Ha, with this document the project would obviously become one of the other companies'. You weren't only trying to fake my signature but also Luka's? This is a serious offence, you could get charged for that."
Without waiting for Carol to speak, Yana ripped the document into shreds and nonchalantly watched the piece glide onto the floor.
To Yana's surprise, Carol kept calm, "So, what? It didn't happen, did it? You can't charge me with anything. You just ripped the evidence into pieces."
"That's true," seeing that Yana was still unimpressed by her words, Carol felt more uneasy. Even though she hated Yana she couldn't be reckless but Carol felt like a heavy blow was dealt to her as Yana ripped the document apart.
That stupid, arrogant fool! Carol cursed Yana a thousand times in her mind. Didn't Yana know the consequences of her actions? Yana didn't even give Carol a chance to say anything before she resorted to that reckless action.
Yana was truly too arrogant in Carol's eyes. Yana must think that everyone apart from her was stupid but in truth the most stupid one was her.
Carol balled her fist, "Why are you so haughty? What's so wrong with giving the project up to the other guys? Why must you be in charge?"
As Carol sharp words left her mlips, her heart felt cold. There was no return. Yana destroyed the document, so Carol was forced to resort to another method.
She didn't want to do it because that plan was the worst. Truly disgusting and cheap. But Carol couldn't refuse the order from the managers. If they were only blackmailing Carol, Carol didn't mind but they were threatening her with despicable methods, so Carol had no choice but to follow along.
"Do you even know what the others want to do with the orphanage?" Yana's words brought Carol back.
"I know," these two words stunned Yana. Carol knew? If she knew then why would she still-
"Why? Isn't that what you're wondering?" Carol slightly laughed. She had nothing to lose now. For this next task, luckily she had everything carefully planned out. It should work and no one should get harmed.
"Your pride doesn't let you see, does it?" Carol continued to provoke Yana but these words were things Carol actually wanted to tell Yana, "What they've planned to do with orphanage is still 100 times better than what they would resort to in order to get the orphanage!"
Yana caught the meaning in Carol's words but still asked, "What do you mean?"
"You should know! Letting them build an amusement park, a housing complex or whatever is still better than making them chase after the project to get what they want! You've no idea about business so why do you still meddle?" Carol got increasingly furious, "So what if they want to make a project out to this place? It's still better than to have anyone harmed in the process by these greedy people trying to take this land!"
Carol finally said it and she was satisfied seeing Yana's expression, "You should've just stayed out of it! You dumb woman!"
Carol finally let everything off her chest but it still didn't change what she had to do.
Yana watched Carol with a complicated look. If Carol put it like that, then it was reasonable and understandable why Carol did what she did, why her thought process worked like this and even why Carol hated Yana.
But nevertheless, Yana still remained firm. One painful lesson she's been taught was to never regret her decisions because at one point she thought it was right.
And if the end result wasn't successful, there was no point in regretting it. The only acceptable solution was to try to change the outcome instead of living in regret.
So, Yana's next words were like a stone-carved determination that slightly wavered Carol's conviction, "Of course, I won't let it happen. Neither of both options. I'll deny what they want until the end and remain victorious. No one will get hurt, I'll make sure of it."
"Ha… haha," Carol at first thought Yana's words were cool but then she laughed at Yana's naivety. Yana won't let it happen. Who did she think she was?
The only person in the world? The only person you could think and act? What? Was Yana omnipotent?
Of course not, Yana was even more stupid than Carol thought. Did Yana really think she could keep everyone safe?
It wasn't Yana! Yana didn't even know what was going on! But it was Carol! Carol was the one who made sure no one would get harmed even while her own life and that of her precious ones were threatened!
Yana could try to do as much as she wanted but in the end, it was still Carol who tried to prevent the worst outcome the managers have set up. But Yana still had the face to play the hero!
"You are so dumb," Carol spit venom at Yana but couldn't say more.
With such a wannabe righteous person, Carol couldn't argue. Yana heard Carol's words but didn't mind. That was because Yana didn't know what Carol thought of her.
If Yana knew what she looked like in Carol's eyes or maybe even in others, Yana would question herself. Did she really come over as arrogant, stupid, naïve, reckless with a hero complex?
Yana only tried to think of the best outcome in this situation for all parties involved. She didn't care about her image or reputation.
"Carol, answer me, I know that you know more or less of their plans and… why are you doing this? The orphanage isn't the only reason right?"
Carol had to laugh a bit more. At least Yana seemed to be a bit sharp. Carol closed her eyes. She hated Yana but at this moment, Carol thought it was ok to disclose this information to Yana.
Maybe, it would help her or not, the following event was inevitable. If Yana wanted to play a hero, Carol would watch and see how Yana failed, then Yana would realise that Carol was right all along.
Maybe then Yana would stop being so arrogant and finally let the managers do what they wanted.
As Carol opened her eyes, a cold familiar glint stared at Yana. Yana saw that Carol calmed down but the revelation wasn't exactly what she expected.
"Simple," Carol exhaled, "I don't know much but I've caught that they actually want to build something like a money-laundering facility underneath this land."
"I see, that's why they're desperate to get the land and have control over it," Yana concluded calmly and Carol widened her eyes. That information didn't shock her?
"And your reason for helping?"
Carol remained quiet for a bit before answering, "They're threatening to kill my family. I- I'm an orphan. I only have two family members left and both of them are in the orphanage. A little brother and a little sister."
