Chapter 47 - Fool in all mouths

"Pfft hahaha haha!"

"Can you please stop?"

"Hahahahahaha!"

"Just stop…."

"AHAHAHAHAHAH!"

"Luka, just cut his salary."

"Bao, your salary will be reduced to ¼ of what it is."

GASP.

"No! I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, oh-so-gracious, beautiful and wonderful deity! Please have some mercy on this lowly subject! This lowly subject will never make fun of your insanely stupid deeds anymore. So, please feel free to continue being the laughing stock for the whole world!"

This jerk.

Yana's eye twitched as Bao fell on his knees and feinted to sob while he still mocked her.

"Just give me the stuff," Yana ignored Bao who continued to plead for his innocence and grabbed the makeup bag from his arms and went to the bathroom to ready herself.

Like a boss, like an employee. Yana quickly adjusted her appearance again. Luckily the jacket incident didn't ruin too much of her makeup. She just needed to retouch a bit and style her hair.

After she was finished, she stepped out of the bathroom only to find Luka present, "Did Bao leave?"

"Why do you care about him? Do you want him to be here?"

Yana ignored the childish questions of Luka and only asked, "Is there something wrong with your head?"

"No, it's perfectly fine," Luka sat on the sofa and patted the spot next to him, "We can stay here and not attend the banquet."

"Then for what reason did we come in the first place?" Yana at first wanted to agree but then remembered her objective. The three managers were here. They probably wanted to humiliate and harm her.

Yana had to put them in their place. Seeing Luka like this, he was utterly useless. Also…

"A banquet means there's good food right?"

Luka was stunned before he laughed. Yana had to admit his laughter was really attractive like a fierce breeze sweeping away all sorrows.

"What's wrong?" Yana crossed her arms.

"Nothing, I'm just glad you didn't change in that aspect," Luka stood up and approached her, "Yeah, the food is cooked by the top chefs in this country. Shall we go?"

He held his hand out, anticipatingly waiting for a miracle, yet instead, Yana grabbed his arm and fluttered her dress around.

Rich people and their events were really over the top. Everything had to be 'best in the country'.

"By the way," Luka opened the door and escorted Yana down the hallways, "You look very beautiful."

Yana's eyes widened and she stared at her mirror reflection in the lift. Since she has grown up a lot during the 5 years, her baby fat disappeared along with some of her cute charm, leaving only that seductive yet honest appearance of hers.

"Thanks, you too," Yana fixated her gaze on the mirror and saw a cursed red tint on her cheeks. She didn't dare to look at Luka who chuckled next to her.

Getting compliments were nice but Yana still didn't how sincere Luka was. Even though he said them now had nothing to do with the past, it was still best to stay away from him. Once Yana's mission was over, they'd never see each other again.

Yana's grip tightened around Luka's arm before-

Bing

The door of the lift opened.

Yana's face instantly became cold and had an aloof vibe to it.

"We're here," as they stood in front of the doors leading to the banquet hall, Luka squeezed Yana's hand slightly.

"Ok," no matter what happened now Yana couldn't let it faze her.

Two staff opened the door to a large hall. It was dark and the only light source fell onto the stage at the other end of the hall.

Several round tables with 8 guests on each table spread across the hall. All these important people have gathered in one place and Yana, as a normal person, was about to meet them.

How could she face them? They were offended to think Luka brought such a lowly girl here. She was like a cinderella. Poor and unbefitting for this high-society.

"Sir, please follow me," a waiter brought Luka and Yana to their table. It was one of the ones in the front. The closer to the stage one sat the more important they were apparently.

As they walked through the dimly lit hall, all eyes curiously fell on Yana and whispers followed her around.

Yana ignored them and sat down as Luka pulled out the chair for her. She hoped that as long as the charity went on, no one would talk to her. In theory, the main event was the charity. The rich people here donated several amounts of money for various things while the host on stage played his magical mouth to loosen everyone's wallets.

During the main event, dinner was served. Afterwards, the true main event for these rich people began. The so-called afterparty. Everyone would move to another place and mingle with each other to socialise and network. Bao has briefed Yana about the banquet the day before.

The table Yana and Luka sat on had Bao and 5 other guests. They politely nodded at Luka and exchanged a few greetings. However, they weren't able to ask about Yana as the appetisers and wine were served.

"I don't drink, thanks," Yana told the waiter as he asked her if she wanted red or white wine.

"Oh, good lady, it's a banquet. If you don't drink, where's the joy in it?" a middle-aged man who sat next to Bao spoke up, seizing the opportunity to finally get to know who that woman next to Luka was.

Yana politely smiled, "I take joy in helping a great cause like the charity. Help the people in need."

For a second, the whole table was silent. Yana took a dab at him that these rich people couldn't swallow so easily.

"My dear with what money?" apparently the wife of the man spoke up.

Yana's smile didn't falter. It seemed like they could tell with only one glance that she wasn't the heiress of a rich family.

"My money is hers," Luka spoke up and took a sip of the red wine. His overbearing aura briefly froze the couple.

"Haha, you brought an interesting girl, Luka," another younger male laughed.

He was quite good-looking, "A lady who already drew attention by looking like a match stick in public. Luka has your taste gone bad?"

The table snickered. For sure, they already figured out that Yana was the mummified person. Yana expected to be made fun of but so openly and directly, it even made her angry.
