In the year 2000 durring the millennium celebration, a sudden earth shattering phenomenon occurred that would forever change the world.
Fractures in reality that had varying colours and sizes appeared out of thin air that seemed to completely disregard the laws of physics that generated a new form of energy out of thin air. Scientists around the world tried to find the origin of this mysterious phenomenon and also find a way to harness its power.
After decades of research and rigorous testing, scientists where finally able to harness this mysterious energy that they called "Mana".
The reactors that harnessed this new form of energy where very expensive to make and required and required the rare metal rhodium which was the only material in the world that somehow released some of the mana it absorbed from the fractures instead of completely absorbing it.
As this new source of energy was discovered, countries around the world began to clash with each other for this seemingly endless source of energy, because who wouldn't want free and infinite energy!
As years went by and the state of the world started to cool down and settle, while the field of science and discovery started flourish and see even larger advancement since the industrial revolution, something even more preposterous occurred!
People around the world and even those on space expeditions heard the same message at the exact same time in a weirdly monotone voice that seem to radiate motherly love.
[ Enought mana has been absorbed.... World and all native sentient species going through evolution to ensure survival ]
*BOOM*
Volcanoes around the world suddenly erupted! But instead of spreading around, the the lava seemed to go against the laws of gravity and reached a cetain point in the atmosphere where it engulfed the area around it for miles.
In the span of minutes the entire world was covered in a layer of molten lava.
At the exact same time people suddenly found themselves in their homes even if they were in a different continent, and before they could make heads or tails of what happened they were overcome with fatigue and fell asleep.

*9 months later*
Everyone around the world were jolted from their seemingly never ending sleep followed by an overwhelming need to say the word [Status]. Infront of them a game like interface was floating in the air.
Different reactions where observed around the world, with the majority feeling scared sh*tless but with some feeling extreme excitement for the tremendous implications of this phenomenon and some feeling annoyance, but they knew one thing for sure... the world will never be the same again.
[ Sigh... I did my best to prepare you for the upcoming dangers and insane opportunities, you better do your best and protect me ok? ]
The previously monotone voice, now held a higher pitch and held similarities to the voice of a woman rang in eveyones mind.
*A few weeks later*
Just when people were starting to get their bearings and scientists tried to figure out what had transpired, and what caused the seemingly endless supply of mana from the fractures to stop even though some of them saw an up to 200% increase in size.
Meanwhile, people around the globe started to familiarise themselves with these new powers and find different ways to utilise them. The lava covering the world started to recede back to its origin along with a new message ringing in everyone's mind.

Shorty after that, large portals started to appear around the world and the people close to them saw creature straight out of myths and stories starting to pop out one after the other from these supposed portals.
One particularly large dragon that had an air of reverence and regality shouted in a loud voice the seemed to reach the ears of every creature for miles said:
" We sensed some of our kin that is housed in this tiny world and decided to seek asylum, can you please direct me to your leaders so that we can reach an agreement during these trying times?"
Everyone that heard his words and those that came to learn about this from various news outlets had a single thought cross their mind.
