One day, a servant boy ate the food that was meant for Kim Chil's son. He died several hours after ingesting the food. No one realized what happened until the boy was found lying in the courtyard, with his eyes rolled at the back of his head, and with white foam dripping from his mouth.
That was the moment Kim Chil decided to bury his heart and accept his fate. Whether it was because of cowardice or the need to protect those he cared about, he steeled himself against all feelings of love and tenderness.
The first step he took was to declare his son dead. Then, he burned the servant boy's dead body and silenced all the servants who knew anything about the matter.
After doing all that, Kim Chil gave his son away. Little Jun was, thus, handed to Yu Eung-Bu, who was tasked with raising the child.
