The moment Yoon-Yi opened her eyes, a wave of blazing pain overwhelmed her. Her body felt battered as if she had been hit by a train. She blinked a few times, her eyes watering slightly because of the bright light. Then, slowly, the image began to focus, and she could finally see her surroundings.
It took her a second to realize where she was. She was lying on a bed in what unmistakably looked like a hospital room.
Before her brain got a chance to register more, the door opened and her mother hurried inside, followed by her grandfather who was walking right behind her.
"Yoon-Yi, thank heavens you are alright!" Mrs. Kim breathed out when she saw her daughter was finally awake.
Worry was etched on every line of Mrs. Kim's face and her eyes were moist. After hurrying to her daughter's side, she bent over Yoon-Yi's hospital bed and brushed the hair from her face.
"Wh…where…"
