Mannat sat down on her bed, feeling the weight of her mother's disapproval weighing heavily on her. The morning walk with those strangers had indeed turned into a regretful experience. She replayed the events in her mind, recalling the discomfort and unease she had felt throughout.
As she sat there, frustration and self-doubt swirling within her, Mannat couldn't help but wonder if her mother was right. Maybe it was reckless of her to venture out with people she barely knew. The warning signs had been there, but she had ignored them, wanting to step out of her comfort zone and give socializing a chance.
But now, her mother's words echoed loudly in her mind, reinforcing her insecurities. Mannat felt a pang of guilt for not heeding her mother's advice. She had always been protective, looking out for Mannat's well-being, and this incident seemed like a validation of her worst fears.
Lost in her thoughts, Mannat began to question her own judgment. Perhaps she should have been more cautious, more discerning about the company she kept. The realization stung, filling her with a mix of anger and disappointment in herself.
As Mannat grappled with her emotions, she knew that it was essential to learn from this experience. While it was tempting to let the disappointment and self-blame consume her, she understood the need to move forward and make better choices in the future. She resolved to listen to her instincts more carefully, value her own judgment, and prioritize her safety.
Feeling a bit calmer, Mannat reached for her discarded scrunchie and re-tied her hair. She took a deep breath, determined to rise above the negativity and learn from her mistakes. It was a challenging lesson, but she was determined to grow stronger and wiser from it.
With renewed resolve, Mannat stood up from the bed, ready to face the day and take control of her own path. She would use this experience as a reminder to trust herself and make decisions that aligned with her values and well-being.

As Mannat entered the kitchen, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air. Her mother stood near the stove, preparing breakfast with a stern expression on her face. Mannat could tell her mother was still upset about the events from earlier, and she wanted to mend the strained atmosphere between them.
"Good morning, Mom," Mannat greeted her, trying to sound cheerful despite her own inner turmoil.
Her mother glanced at her briefly, acknowledging her presence with a nod but maintaining her silence. Mannat knew it would take more than a casual greeting to ease the tension.
"I'm really sorry about what happened this morning," Mannat said sincerely, stepping closer to her mother. "I should have been more careful and listened to you."
Her mother sighed, her stern expression softening slightly. "You know I worry about you, Mannat. I just want you to be safe."
"I know, Mom," Mannat replied, understanding the underlying concern. "I've learned my lesson, and I promise to be more cautious from now on. I value your advice and I should have listened."
Her mother looked at her, studying her face for a moment before nodding again. "Alright, apology accepted. Just remember to be more mindful in the future."
Mannat smiled gratefully, relieved that her mother had forgiven her. She knew it would take time to rebuild the trust, but this was a step in the right direction.
"Now, how about I help you with breakfast?" Mannat offered, eager to lighten the mood further.
Her mother hesitated for a moment before giving a small smile. "That would be nice, thank you."
Together, they started working side by side, preparing breakfast and engaging in small talk. Mannat could feel the tension gradually dissipating as they focused on the task at hand. It was a simple act, but it helped them reconnect and reminded Mannat of the love and support her mother always provided.
As they sat down to eat, Mannat felt a sense of gratitude and determination. She was determined to make better choices moving forward, not just for herself, but also for her mother's peace of mind. And in doing so, she hoped to bridge the gap that had formed between them, strengthening their bond even further.
Riaan had come running into the dining area with his school bag ready at his side. Mark had his usual smile, as he walked in and took his seat next to Riaan. Mannat had to look away, she couldn't face him! But, he? Continued to act as if nothing had happened and for that she was grateful.
After breakfast, Mannat had flighted up the staircase as she rushed to get ready for her first day at the new school. She brushed her hair in a tight pony and wore a simple sundress. When the incessant cribbing on Riaan finally got on her nerves, she dashed out of the room, cursing at the low battery percentage on her phone.
"We are gonna be late! And it's because of you." Riaan narrowed his eyes at her in an accusatory manner.
"Late? It's 7:50! We still have 10 minutes! The school starts at 8!" She reminded her brother.
"Yes, and we can't be late!" He retorted and moved towards the main door saying waving off to their mother.
Mannat rolled her eyes and she followed her younger brother's lead passing her mother a flying kiss.
