Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Spring of Remedy

The detectives questioned Lissy about the poison in the food she is cooking, Lissy told them every detail that happened during her cooking and delivery, and denied that she was the culprit, which is true but they still hold her in custody incased she was lying or associated with the crime. They will surely set her free if she is proven guilty.

The detectives and knights are now in search of the said palace maid that went suddenly missing during the night were Mayari was poisoned.

The physician was surprised that Mayari was able to maintain her life even though her gate was badly exhausted. She lost a lot of blood for what she did but was easily replaced by a blood donation from Helen.

Mayari survived from her certain death... However, overusing her gate also have consequences: She fell into a deep slumber, she couldn't wake up even though her gate had completely healed.

It's been a month, Mayari is still trap in her coma. Helen sat on a chair near her bed. Her eyes is full to the brim with concern.

"Please, wake up Mayari" Helen spoke, gentle holding Mayari's hand.

Helen can see clearly that Mayari has become more thinner than her usual self. Being asleep for a month, without any food or water, really loosen her weight.

It was still early in the morning, the sun's beam illuminated the room with its warm golden light through the balcony's door. The air is lukewarm and refreshing to breath, it gave a satisfying smell of morning dews as the warm sun's ray overwhelm the mystical land.

Suddenly, a quiet knock on the door was heard, "Come in" Helen spoke.

The door slowly opened revealing Evan, who came in and closed the door from behind.

"How is she, aunt Helen?" Evan asked, walking closer.

Helen gave a heavy sigh and shook his head before answering; "She's still the same... sleeping peacefully" her tone was quiet and comforting, but it also holds sadness and concern.

"Oh..." Evan respond, staring at Mayari who is sleeping quietly.

There was a moment of silence before Evan spoke again; "I sent a request to a friend of mine, the King of Myrim" He took a folded letter from his pocket and gave it to Helen. Helen unfolded and read the letter, while Evan explained; "My request is to grant us permission to use their Spring of Remedy to cure Mayari, and he agreed"

Helen's lips twisted into a light smile after reading the letter, seeing the signature of the King and Queen of Myrim in acceptance of their request had lighten up the burden in her shoulder.

"Thank you for your kindness, Evan. I'm sure you'll be a grate ruler someday" Helen complimented.

"I'm looking forward to it" Even responded with a smile.

"I'm also sure Mayari will be thankful for what you did for her after she woke up" Helen assured.

"She don't have to" Evan responded, "We'll be leaving as soon as we finished packing up, so I'll take my leave now" He informed before leaving the room.

Helen just nodded and smiled as a respond. She looked back at Mayari after Evan left the room, she then softly brushed Mayari's hair with her fingers as she assured her; "Don't worry Mayari you'll wake up soon".

An enormous aircraft with five pair of wings and lines of curving structures connected from the side of the ship and congregated to the top end, is being used for the transportation to the country of Myrim.

Their destination is greatly far away it will take weeks before they arrived so Helen along with Dr. Milan, Evan and Fernando, who accompanied the journey, waited patiently to land.

"Why do you look so gloomy, sweetie?" Lisa asked as she approach her little daughter that was sadly staring at the rain through her bedroom window with her head leaned against the side.

Mayari straightened her posture as Lisa gently stroke her hair; "It's just... why does our country only have rain, while the others have snow" she answered gloomily, "I wanna experience snow..." she whined quietly under her breath.

"Sweetie..." Lisa leaned Mayari closer and wrapped her with her arms, "Our country, the Philippines is to hot for snow, it is near the equator that's why it have a tropical climate" she explained, "The dry and rainy season is all we have we should be thankful of that rather than being in a hot sandy dessert"

"But I wanna experience snow!" Mayari pouted, with her arms crossed.

"That's not a problem, cupcake" Adolf suddenly said approaching his wife and daughter from the door, "Don't worry, I just need to save enough money for us to buy flight tickets and we can go on a Christmas vacation in a country with snow" Adolf knelt down to Mayari's level as he gave a warm smile, "We could go to America, Japan, Korea or other countries with snow" he suggested.

"Do you mean it, daddy?!" Mayari's frown became a smile as she asked.

"Of course, cupcake" he assured.

"Yey!!!" Mayari screamed, jumping up and down in happiness. She then embraced her parents, "Thank you mommy, thank you daddy, from the bottom of my heart"

Lisa and Adolf tightly wrapped their arms to their sweet daughter as they say in unison; "Your welcome, Mayari"

Her dream suddenly changed into another memory.

Mayari's wished to experience snow was granted but... it wasn't exactly what she wanted: There she is standing on the heavy snowy ground as the icy snow from above continued to fall.

She's wearing a thick black furry clothing to warm herself from the freezing cold weather, beneath her black hood is her famous mask, and in her grip is a bloody knife.

Not far away from her feet is a scarlet fluid coating the ivory snow, and next to it is a lifeless corpse of a pregnant woman.

The sky was cloudy, the ground is covered with heavy snow, so as the trees that covered the area, the surrounding is dark aside from the binary light beam from the car behind her.

After securing the woman's dead, she then wiped the knife with a handkerchief, the blood from the knife stained the white pallid cloth as she put both items back to her pocket, walk inside her car, and left.

Memories always haunt her through her dreams, it's like a reminder of all her wrong doings to make her suffer in every sleep she took. She may not show it from the surface but underneath she's suffering, she'll ignore it but it will always be there consuming her bit by bit.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At last, they have arrived. Their enormous airship set down on the cold icy sea of Myrim. When they have reached the shore, there are already carriages waiting for them.

The land was covered with off-white snow, glistering like a diamond as the sunlight whelmed the silvery land. Helen have already changed to her winter clothes, so as the others.

"Welcome back to Myrim, the land of ice and snow, and the country of mermen, my friend Evan" The King of Myrim greeted Evan with a hug, as the servants and coachmen behind him bowed.

"It's nice to see you again, Carlos" Evan greeted back.

King Carlos is the same age as Prince Evan, he has light blue eyes, long dark hair and pale skin. As a merman his ears look like fish fins and his gills are visible in his neck but that didn't block his manly beauty of course.

"Like wise, Evan" Carlos responded with a smile. "Now let's meet this girlfriend of yours"

Evan cleared his throat, and felt his cheeks turned light pink before he answered; "Her name is Mayari Alverno and she's not my girlfriend" Evan corrected calmly.

When everything has been settled, they continued their way to the Myrim Palace where the Spring of Remedy is kept. The carriage was being drawn by a different dragon, it kinda similar to Enchantia but there are also differences, the dragon is a large wingless lizard with silver white skin and webbed feet, it also have gills in its neck and their ears are similar to mermen, fish fins. It run in the earth and swim in water, cold don't bother them since they have thick skin that can repel the freezing cold of winter. Heavy snow isn't blocking the road to the palace, so the ride was fast and quick.

The palace is breathtaking, it is made of ice, the ice that was used are solid thick, and clear that the sun's light beamed throughout the icy castle making it gleam like a pure vibrant crystal.

King Carlos lead the way from the castle to the garden where beautiful frosty looking plants and flowers are growing, and glimmering as the sunlight stroke them gently.

It's Dr. Milan's first time in the frosty garden of the Myrim's palace, she can't believe what her eyes is seeing, it's so beautiful, her honey dew eyes are sparkling in admiration. Helen, Fernando and Evan have already seen the garden multiple times, but they always forget how beautiful the garden is with its glistering icy plants. Even the servants, from Enchantia, that are assisting Mayari can't believe that they have given this chance to see this frost taking scenery, they felt so lucky.

In the end of the garden, where Carlos lead them, is a big pool of pure spring water. The water is flowing from a big pile of rock at the end of the pool, which looks like a small smooth streaming waterfall. In the center of the spring is a life-size pallid lotus, while bordering near the sides are minimum size lotus that has not yet bloomed.

Infront of the spring, standing and waiting, is a beautiful red head mermaid with light evergreen eyes. her pale skin shines like a priceless pearl in the snow, her pinkish lip is perfectly shaped, and her viridian emerald earrings looks perfect in her fading green fin ears. She's wearing a beautiful lime green gown and on top of her wavy cherry red hair seated a crown of pearls. Next to her is her personal servant who bowed to his majesty.

"It's good to see you again, Evan, Prince Fernando, and Ms. Helen" She greeted with a smile.

"It's good to see you too, Xera" Evan greeted back.

"Looks like you and Carlos are doing an excellent work ruling the country of Myrim" Fernando complimented.

"Thank you" Xera thank with a smile, she then turned to Helen and said; "I'm sorry about what happened to your apprentice, Ms. Helen"

"Don't worry about it, Xera. I'm very sure the Spring of Remedy will surely cure her" Helen responded with a light smile of hope.

"It will definitely work" Xera assured, "Now, let's meet this dear apprentice of yours"

The others then moved aside and make way for the servants who was assisting Mayari walk closer to the Queen. Mayari is laying peacefully at a soft clothed stretcher, she is tuck in a pretty, thick, furry ivory dress that's been keeping her warm from the snowy weather of Myrim.

The Queen then held her hand to Mayari's forehead, as it glowed a blue light. She's examining her condition. "Looks like she had been through a lot of magic overusing" she stated, pulling back her hand.

"How many hours would it take for her to heal, Xera?" Carlos asked.

"She extremely exhausted herself, so I'm very positive that her healing will take a day or a day and a half before she wakes up" Xera informed. This information gave everyone smiles of gladness, that Mayari will wake up soon.

Xera held out her hand again but this time two string of water from the Spring of Remedy followed her. The water slowly rapped Mayari as the queen moved her hand in a gesturing way. When she raised her hand, the water obeyed and floated Mayari in midair. With the movement of Xera's hand the water made its way to the center of the spring and gently laid Mayari down on the white pallid lotus.

Even though Xera had pulled down her hand and stopped controlling the water, it still surrounding Mayari like strings dancing in a spiral motion as it circles Mayari's body, gently restoring and healing her.

"The bordering little lotuses will slowly open from time to time, and when it fully bloomed then that means she's waking up and is fully healed" Carlos informed.

"The Spring of Remedy may need time to heal someone depending on how severe their illness or injury, but it is very effective and assuring" Xera assured.

"This spring truly is magnificent" Fernando commented and gave a light chuckle.

When suddenly, Mayari's crescent moon birthmark gleamed again, but this time it gave a clear vibrant light. Once again, it was concealed by her soft raven hair, and that made it obscure to them.

As her birthmark glowed, the water turned into ice. From the streaming water of the piled rocks to the big pool of spring water. Even the water that was spiraling Mayari stopped, returned to the pool and freeze along.

"What happened!?" Helen asked concerned. "Why did the spring turn to ice?"

"Is this one of the spring's way of healing?" Fernando asked after.

"No... I-I think this is different" Dr. Milan mumbled unsure of her words.

"Carlos!?" Evan look over at Carlos and found him and Xera dumbfounded.

After a brief moment of silence, Xera finally spoke; "No... this is different... the spring is suppose to continue healing her by spiraling its water around her body, just like earlier, until the bordering lotus fully bloom which means she is cured" she explained puzzled.

"This never happened before..." Carlos said with confusion embed in his tone.

"And I think this is not supposed to happen..." Xera added.

Then suddenly, icy plants and flowers flourished from the surface of the frozen spring. It's growing in a fast rate making their way to the big pallid lotus where Mayari is peacefully laying. A flower even made its way to Mayari's side of the head, and it stayed there like an attached hairpin, making Mayari's appearance more beautiful. While the other plants surrounded her like she's a rich soil.

Helen and the others were amaze of what they are witnessing. They don't know what to do, they are confused if the Spring of Remedy is healing her or not. Their minds are spinning in puzzles but their eyes were filled with beauty.

While the frosty plants were expressly growing, the bordering lotus were slowly opening. When it had fully opened the plants instantly disperse into tiny snowflakes, slowly falling down from above.

Mayari slowly opened her dark bay eyes and saw the falling snowflakes of snow. Beneath her cold stare entrench an emotion of happiness and shame.
