Chapter 14 - Darkest depths

As the sun dawned over the Elven forest, far below the trees and through many foul dark corridors there sat an iron door. At that moment inside that lonely dark cell a lone figure stirred, chained to the wall, wounds covered in dried caked blood and several broken bones. This figure was Eduard.

He began to stir because he could hear footsteps coming from some distance away due to his improved hearing, he could tell they were armored boots treading towards his room from the corridor in front of him, well... what he assumed was a corridor in front of him, since the lack of any other noise made him assume he was underground.

Attempting to move his body he was racked by intense pain, he felt as if the very power that once filled his body was being contained and restrained by these chains that rapt around him. He assumed it was also because of these chains that his wounds had not closed yet. With the intense pain coursing through his body when he tried to move he decided it was best if he just stayed still. Sitting in the dark while waiting for the footsteps to get closer he contemplated what he could do to get out of this situation.

Eduard assumed that he was currently in an elf dungeon and the only thing that he had on him was his dragon crested ring which sat upon his finger the rest of his gear and clothing had been stripped off him and taken to some unknown location. The only silver lining to his current predicament was the fact he was probably closer to Lilith and maybe other future servants. The problem with this was the fact that he was now imprisoned just like them and was no better off than the other demons sealed here, or at least he assumed he was no better off, he couldn't be sure.

As Eduard contemplated his terrible luck of landing in an Elven dungeon he heard the sound of a rusted key turning in the lock of his cell door. The cell which up to this point had been pitch black was now flooded with torch light. Eduard had been using one of the only abilities he could still access through the chains which was naturally his night vision but with the torchlight filling the room he could now fully see the person who had opened the cell. To his surprise it was actually three elves he could for some reason only hear the chainmail covered guards footsteps and couldn't hear what he assumed to be two maid servants based on their dress. The Elf guard up front or atleast what he assumed was an elf since his head was entirely covered in a helmet spoke first, but instead of even addressing Eduard he spoke to the to blonde elven servants who were covered in similar attire to the maids that used to work at Eduard's family manor many years ago when he was last there. The maids came in carrying a tray with what appeared to be food and some sort of glowing collar, which glowed in a blue light.

"Put the suppression collar on the Demon and clean 'em up" the guard spoke.

"He's to be presented in the throne room for questioning before lunch time." the guard continued on.

One of the maids scurried forward and took the glowing blue collar and collapsed it around Eduard throat and then the other maid came forward with the tray covered in what appeared to be dinner rolls and a curved and finely decorated pitcher which was full of what he assumed was water. Bringing the water to his lips the maid slowly tilted the pitcher upwards, and though he felt humiliated Eduard still desperately drank from it with thirst he had never felt, as he gulped the water down Eduard tasted and felt the sweet nectar which he had thought was water fill his throat, and as it flowed down his throat the wounds on his body closed at a rapid rate. Feeling rejuvenated Eduard felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

The maids then proceeded to unlock him from the wall and as he fell down he attempted to stand but his legs buckled under him. Falling to the floor Eduard was dragged to his feet by a made on each side one of which had thrown the tray with his food to the side, and they proceeded to pull him down the hall and the guard followed behind.

"You're going to be on your best behavior in the royal court, you demon scum, or I will personally flay the skin off your body is that clear, filth?" The guards voice came from behind him as the maids carried him down the hall.

"Perfectly clear" Eduard responded even though in truth he meant the opposite. Eduard was still trying to mentaly prepare himself for what was to come and was still quite tired from the exhaustion that racked his body. After being dragged down the hallway for several minutes Eduard could finally feel his legs and attempted to walk, telling the maids to let him walk they let him down, and on wobbly legs he stood up and their journey started anew though Eduard was much happier since he felt it embarrassing to be carried by others even if he was a prisoner.

After another minute of walking and after passing many other cells in the dark corridors, the group came upon a spiral staircase which curved upwards and with the guard poking him from behind with his sword, Eduard shakily climbed the steps. Though most if not all his wounds were healed he still felt completely sealed by the collar which surrounded his neck and fatigue still racked his body. After climbing up what he assumed to be a dozen floors and passing by many well lit doors Eduard and his entourage arrived at the floor they were looking for.

"Don't speak unless you're spoken to, if you want to keep your head filth, and bow upon entering and don't raise your head until asked, is that understood?" The guard spoke again in his usual angry tone.

"Yes" Eduard responded, simply hoping for a way to get out of this damn mess.

Walking onto the well lit floor they were greeted by a long hallway with a large grandiose wooden door at the end of the hallway. Alone the hallway ten guards stood on each side not moving a muscle or even turning their heads at their entry, Each one was dressed in what appeared to be glowing metal armor which shined in the torch light, wielding what appeared to be enchanted pikes. Walking down the hallway Eduard noticed the maids stepped back and stopped walking, only the guard following behind him though even the guard looked tenser as they approached the door.

When they came up to the door even the guard stopped following him, and now instead all twenty of the royal guards or at least who he assumed to be royal guards followed behind him. When he came to the door two of the guards stepped forward and pulled the door outwards and a cacophony of noise assaulted his ears and as he adjusted to it the sound ceased and all heads turned in his direction.
