"Why would you write this on there?" He asked angrily as we all stared at the big bold "FUCK DENVER" written across every piece of furniture that belonged to me.
Bree had to excuse herself to keep from laughing. She hadn't seen it yet, I forgot to tell her.
"I'm sorry, I was upset. I shouldn't have done it. I'll paint over it" I said nervously, "the bed will be easy to cover, it'll just need a sheet." I tried to make them laugh but they're a tough crowd sometimes.
"Please just go and spend the day with Bree. We will handle everything here. There's not much left anyway." He tried not to sound too mad, "just please be back here before 5 am because that's when we're leaving, okay? And text your mother so we know what you're doing." He wouldn't make eye contact with me.
At least they couldn't say no to my plans since it's my last day.
"Okay. Love you guys. Sorry. See you in the morning." I said and then disappeared down the hallway into the kitchen.
"Dude you did not write that all over your shit." She said still laughing.
"I did it when I got back, it's not even a big deal. That's what freaking paint is for." I said annoyed, "let's just go."
——
We hopped into her car, lit cigarettes and peeled out of the driveway.
"We probably need to stop at the store for water bottles, I didn't bring any." I said still annoyed, "and snacks too." I added.
We pulled into a gas station down the street.
"I'm gonna fill my car up with gas, go in and grab what you want." She said handing me cash.
"I have money, keep it." I said showing her my debit card.
"No way, I'm paying for today. Take this." She said as she shoved the cash into my hand.
I didn't feel like fighting with her about it, she probably owes me anyway.
——
As we pulled into the parking lot at camelback we grabbed our bag and started the short hike to 'our' tree. It's a pretty isolated area.
We each lit a cigarette as we walked, and about halfway there she pulled out the pill bottle.
"Do you wanna eat these right now? It's 11." She asked looking at her phone.
"Yeah let's do it."
We started popping mushrooms into our mouths as we walked the rest of the way.
When we got to our spot we set up our camp and sat down across from each other at the picnic table.
"What time is it?" I asked Bree.
"11:33. I feel floaty already." She giggled to me.
I laughed at her, "I can feel it in my cheeks, do you have gum?", she nodded, tossing me her bag, "you want some?" I asked as I put a piece in my mouth.
"Sure."
——
"Hollie!" Bree was snapping her fingers at me, "are you good dude? You've been zoned out forever." She asked laughing at me.
I laughed back at her nodding my head.
