When Sam woke up from his slumber the air was warm again.
"At this rate the day and night cycle is just when the air is warm and cool." Sam said while frowning.
Cupping his hands into a bowl Sam took a morning scoop of water to satisfy himself.
After that Sam rested against the wall of the cave. He rested there for a few hours not noticing that time went by.
Sam was simply staring at the beautiful water that he had earned after climbing mountains.
He was still tired after all the climbing yesterday and he just didn't feel like doing more work.
As time went by Sam began to notice something peculiar in the water.
Something was moving in the water. It was like an underwater ripple.
When Sam saw it the first time he thought he was hallucinating in the heat. However, when he saw it the second and third time Sam realized there was something in the water.
"What the? Is it some kind of fish or animal?" Sam said aloud while wondering.
Sam stood up and silently walked towards the edge of the water.
Crouching down Sam waited, similar to that of a wolf in the grass waiting to pounce on a deer. Sam waited for a long time but he was patient and when he saw a ripple a little distance away, Sam pounced.
He immediately dived into the water as fast as he could hoping to catch something as his first meal. Simultaneously, he activated [Lucky Guess] to hopefully guess the right spot where the animal was, as it was nigh impossible to actually see the animal. As Sam used his skill for the third time he had gotten better at activating it quicker.
Stretching his hand for anything Sam did get lucky and grabbed something slippery and scaly. Sam grabbed onto it and pulled it out of the water by its tail.
"Damn this is sick." Sam said while licking his lips. He was imagining how it would taste.
It really had been a see-through fish. It flopped around in Sam's hand but Sam's grip was tight.
Sam brought the fish back to land and put the fish out of its misery.
Sam then realized his next problem.
"How do I cook this thing? I'm hungry but I shouldn't eat raw as it could do more harm then good." Sam wondered.
Suddenly, an idea came to Sam.
"Ah, I can use the lava. It'll probably work, anyway, it's the best idea I got." Sam said while proud of thinking of a solution.
Sam quickly walked out of the cave and wandered around the Mountain.
It didn't take him long and he found a suitable lava river.
Sam suddenly remembered something.
"Ah! I almost forgot to drain the blood and take the bones out. Although the blood is a water source I have water. The organs as well..I'll just eat them, they're food. I do need to take out bones though, I can't eat them." Sam said after his realization.
Sam quickly tried to separate the head from the rest of the body of the fish with his hands but he realized that it wasn't working.
Sam spotted a sharp rock on the ground and went towards it to use it as a cutting tool.
Sam squatted down and proceeded to take the fish and separate the head from the body using the sharp point of the rock.
However, instead of blood splattering everywhere, a clear liquid splashed instead.
"Huh? Is the blood also clear? I guess it would make sense because otherwise the red blood would make it stand out." Sam guessed.
After holding the fish upside down and watching as the water like blood flowed down and made a small pool of blood.
The pool of blood made Sam feel odd but as it wasn't the color of blood it simply made him feel odd.
Sam looked into the fish and it was mostly sea through on the inside. On careful inspection though Sam spotted a small spine that branched with many bones.
After digging it out Sam took another look at the fish but failed to find more bones. It seemed like the fish had weak bones in order to be less visible.
"Nice." Sam said after finishing to clear the blood of the fish.
Sam finally brought his fish to the lava.
'Now how do I do this? I should try and see if dipping it in the lava is suitable or if it'll just burn it all.' Sam thought.
Sam dipped the head of the fish into the lava and quickly brought it out as he heard it searing.
However, all good things must come to an end. When Sam pulled the fish out of the lava maybe it was because of the close proximity to the lava or the slippery fish. Sam's hand suddenly slipped.
"No!!" Sam yelled!
Sam quickly reached with his other hand to try and catch the fish however the slipperiness fumbled out of his hand again!
Sam's eyes almost popped out of their sockets when that happened.
Plop.
The fish fell into the lava river never to resurface.
Rumble.
It was at that moment that Sam's stomach, seeing this, rumbled in anger.
Sam felt like crying as his dream of getting his first meal since arriving in this land was squashed. Or more precisely it had slipped out of his very hands.
Immensely saddened by this horrible catastrophe. Sam could only return to his Spring and go back to staring into the water hoping to see an underwater ripple. Which mind you, was not easy.
…
A few hours and failed attempts had passed since Sam had lost his first fish.
Once again Sam saw a ripple and he dived.
Sam had gotten better at seeing the ripples and reaction timing due to his hunger.
"Waa!" Sam yelled out a fierce war cry he had been working on in an attempt to scare the fish.
Swimming out of the water, Sam now had possession of the precious fish once again.
Quickly taking the fish to the same lava river, Sam held the fish with both hands. One near the mouth and one at the tail.
Sam quickly drained the blood and emptied the minimal bones of the fish in the same fashion as last time.
This time Sam simply decided to hold it over the lava to cook it.
Although it would probably take longer it would be safer.
As Sam cooked the fish he began to salivate as he hadn't had a proper meal ever since arriving in Desolate Waste. He had purely been filling his stomach with water in an attempt to quell his hunger.
While Sam cooked the fish the scales naturally fell off. It seemed like they weren't resistance to the heat.
The fish quickly finished cooking and Sam admired it.
Sam brought his fish atop the solid rocky land and was finally relieved. Now nothing could go wrong.
As Sam dug his teeth into the soft fish he felt his entire mouth melt. After his first gulp of food down his stomach was in Heaven.
"The best food in the world is when eating something while starving." Sam declared to himself.
The fish was devoured in minutes. Unfortunately this single fish didn't satisfy Sam. It only managed to quell a fourth or maybe even a fifth of Sam's appetite.
Sam ran back to the Spring to repeat the process he had taken.
…
After many hours passed, and many failed and successful attempts piling up, Sam felt his [Lucky Guess] return. However this time, Sam didn't want to use it to find fish as bad luck normally followed him shortly after using [Lucky Guess].
"Stupid skill one day I won't have to rely on you." Sam told himself.
When it was around the middle of the cool phase of the day Sam finally decided to go to sleep as his appetite had drastically decreased.
Sam slept at ease that night knowing he finally had a somewhat reliable food source, and a large water source for the foreseeable future.
