Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 The Transition

After Asher slid the ring on my finger he had told me he was busy and I should leave to go put my two weeks notice in at my various jobs. Then, he walked behind his desk, sat down, and didn't look up again as I made my way out.

I still don't know if this is real. I'm waiting for him to run out and tell me it's some big joke and that my face was hilarious. I mean, this is amazing for Jocelyn. This is amazing for me. I won't have to work 60-70 hours a week at jobs I hate anymore. I won't have to choose between having heat or eating. I won't have to worry about taking Jocelyn off of life support. This is actually amazing.

Don't get me wrong, I don't trust him. The rich boys always think they can get away with anything because of Daddy's money, but I have hope. You know, it might not be pleasant, but that doesn't mean it will be bad, right? Even if it is bad, there will still be some good. I can do this.

I looked up in surprise. I was so focused on my thoughts I didn't even realize I was standing outside of the hospital. I turned on my heel and headed to the subway.

I shrugged off my jacket and jumped on my couch. Thankfully my eight hour shift at Al's flew by. After that, I went to the nightclub I serve at and called the woman I babysit for to put my two weeks in. They all seemed upset I was leaving, but no one put up too much of a fight.

My phone started buzzing in my pocket. I looked and saw Rachael was calling. She was one of the girls I went to high school with, and I haven't heard from her in years.

"Hello," I said after accepting her call.

"Oh my god girlie hi!! It's been way too long," she screeched on the other end of the phone.

"Um yeah, I guess it has. What's up?" I asked.

"Well you know, I've been thinking about you lately and really wanting to hang out. Then, I happened to see your engagement in the tabloids and knew I had to call!" She said in a preppy voice.

"My....? Oh yeah! Yeah! My engagement!" I said after nearly asking her what the hell she was talking about.

"Yeah! So listen, why don't we go get coffee and catch up tomorrow?" She said sounding hopeful.

"Oh, Um that's really sweet of you, but I actually work six to twelve tomorrow so I can't." I replied.

"Well if you don't work until late why can't we meet during the day?" She asked

"No, I work at 6am not pm," I said.

"6am?! Girl, what kind of job has you working an eighteen hour shift?" She yelled on the other end.

"Well I babysit from six to five and then work at a night club six to twelve." I said shrinking back from her loud voice.

"Oh well that's perfect! We'll grab dinner at five. Meet me at the Italian diner on 12th street! Okay, love you byyyeeee" she yelled out before I could even respond.

What the fuck? That was so weird. She was one of those popular girls who thought they were a saint because she didn't bully us misfits. Of course, it wasn't like she was nice to us either. She always treated us like charity cases she could point to and say 'look at how amazing of a person I am because I'm nice to the weirdos'.

I looked at my phone and noticed a text from an unknown number.

'This is Asher. My driver will be by at 5am before your babysitting job to pick up your luggage to bring home, and drop you off at work.'

Okay, double what the fuck. I didn't say anything about where I worked or when I was working to him. Fucking rich people.
