Lin Mengmeng has always loved to fix things. She started from little things like broken toys to bigger things like broken relationships.
It is no wonder that she found herself in the police force fixing the society. She now had a new target, Raizel Collins; a Handsome young man with a sad past.
He was extremely quiet, never responding unless he was spoken to. He reminded her of a meditating old monk, completely immersed in his own world, isolated from the outside world.
But the moment she stepped into Old Lin's place, he was not alone anymore. They were a bunch of mismatched people that felt like the world had forsaken them. The look in his eyes, she had seen before in Uncle Peter and Uncle Simon's eyes when she was younger.
Teaching them companionship and warmth, Lin Mengmeng felt like that was her duty.
Today was her day off from work and she had dedicated the entire morning to Raizel. As she stood in front of the door, the door opened and a figure appeared. She was absolutely stunned and almost pounced.
Raizel has finished his research.
Ice cream seemed to be a very delicious delicacy for children. He had gone to the store and he could see only some children and teens there.
Most of the children were accompanied by their parents but it was obvious that the treat was for them. Raizel did not believe in the discrimination of ages. So he planned to go to the Ice-cream store today.
The air rippled as Raizel activated the Great Shrouding Art. Satisfied by his image, he left the store only to see Old Lin's daughter Lin Mengmeng staring at him in shock.
--
The little guy looked to be about four or five; he looked like a finely carved jade piece, white, soft, like a little bun. Lin Mengmeng's heart melted into a soft puddle.
It did not help that the little guy was wearing a white shirt and black trousers. He looked like a little Raizel.
She rushed towards him.
"Hey, sweetheart, what is your name?"
She looked at the door, waiting for Raizel to appear. Not seeing him she turned to the little bun.
"Where are your parents?" She asked him, smiling sweetly.
Should he leave or return to the shop?
"Father left."
Raizel ended up saying. It was too troublesome to do anything to her.
Besides, she had solved the problem of finding an older person to take him to the ice cream shop.
"Father?" Which century is this? Lin Mengmeng watched the little bun, then bent down to meet his eyes.
"This Auntie is your father's best friend."
Raizel just raised an eyebrow sending arrows to Lin Mengmeng's heart.
What a cute child!
"You don't believe Auntie." She happily brought out her trump card, her police badge.
"Aunty is a policewoman. She can not lie to you. Can you tell Auntie your name?"
Raizel watched the badge curiously, it was a bit like a token. He returned it and left, going towards the direction of the ice cream store.
Lin Mengmeng caught up to him. How could she allow Raizel's child to wander this unsafe town alone?
"Let Auntie go with you."
She smiled and held his soft, little hands in hers. Raizel shivered, quickly removing his hands. It is one thing to pretend to be a child, it is a different thing to be held and treated as one.
Lin Mengmeng's eyes narrowed a bit. Was the child touch-deprived? In truth, she could not see that depressed man hugging this cute child.
"I will not hold you but you should remember to stick close to me. If you don't, bad people will carry you away to eat."
She had expected the boy to huddle closer in fright, not to look at her like she was insane and even move a step away.
How cute! It was a child pretending to be an adult.
A car stopped in front of them.
"Auntie called a taxi, let's go, I will buy you ice cream."
Raizel followed her into the taxi. It was the first time Raizel was entering a taxi so he looked around curiously.
He could not feel any spirit stone so what was powering the vehicle? The only talisman he could feel was a speed talisman. His hands itched, he wanted to take this car apart and study it properly.
The black humble car plunged into the traffic, shuttling through the streets and alleys of the town. It slowly stopped in front of an amusement park.
Lin Mengmeng paid the driver, "Let's go to Hundred flavours Ice Cream shop."
Raizel held the menu looking at it seriously. There were so many flavours.
"Mengmeng!" Jean, the owner of the ice cream shop called out, his face was a little distorted.
"Jean." Lin Mengmeng's face instantly lost its softness. Sensing a heated gaze at him, Raizel raised his face to look at the young man. It was a mundane youth, Raizel lost all interest and went back to studying the different flavours on the menu.
There was all sort of ice cream flavours with pictures crammed in the menu. Every single one of them looked extremely delicious.
"Mengmeng, who is this?" He glared at Raizel before he turned to look at Lin Mengmeng pitifully.
"My friend's son."
Jean did not relent. He had chased Lin Mengmeng for many years; now she had brought a bun that looked just as cute as her.
"Is your friend a man or a woman?" He asked. His tone was slightly higher than usual. Then he thought of something and he paled, "Is he a cultivator?"
Lin Mengmeng did not believe that simply taking Raizel's son to eat Ice cream would cause Jean's thoughts to derail so much.
"It is a male cultivator but doesn't misunderstand. There is no other meaning to it."
"So you are still single?" He asked, hope dancing in his eyes.
"Yes...No..Does it really matter?"
Lin Mengmeng loved fixing things but she did not expect that her relationship would be one cracked mess.
"Mint ice cream with chocolate chip." A cute voice interrupted her.
No waiter had come to ask for Raizel's order and he couldn't wait for these two to sort out their issues.
Jean looked at the little boy with white hair and smiled warmly at him. Since Mengmeng likes children, he must show his best side.
"Little guy, Should I add double chocolate chip to your ice cream?"
Raizel just ignored him, not only did he make him sit here unattended, but he also intends to use him the court the lady he loves.
Lin Mengmeng tried her best to stifle her laughter.
Jean left and returned with three different scoops of ice cream.
"Here, mint ice cream with chocolate chip."
"Mengmeng, your favourite, Buttered Pecan."
He pulled a seat and put his vanilla ice cream on the table, "Hope you guys don't mind."
He smiled at the picture of the three of them, he, Mengmeng and a cute child. How Nice!
Raizel ignored the couple as he started at the light green scoop and swallowed.
He picked up the plastic spoon and took a bite.
So delicious!
The trouble of pretending to be a child and meeting Lin Mengmeng seem to fade away with this single spoon.
When Raizel was done with the ice cream, he turned to Jean with the intention of ordering another flavour.
Lin Mengmeng seemed to read his thought before he uttered it.
"Definitely not. Having more than a scoop is bad for you."
She was really troublesome. Does not matter, he could return here tomorrow.
"Let's go. Your father might be looking for you as we speak." She stood up.
"Mengmeng?"
Lin Mengmeng sighed, "I will call you later."
They returned to the shop, She was shocked that Raizel was not yet back.
The child opened the shop and entered inside, his motion practised and familiar. Was he used to being left alone?
She entered the shop, her body relaxing. She sat at a seat and smiled, "Aunty will wait for your dad with you."
Raizel clenched the cup of water tighter, 'I don't want you to wait for me. I want you to live.'He did not want to use more spiritual energy than necessary.
Casting anything more than the first level of the Great Shroud Art would take a lot out of him. So he sat in silence.
---20minutes
---1 hour
He refused to engage in any conversation with Lin Mengmeng but the young woman was as stubborn as a bull.
When the time was reaching the 2nd hour, her phone rang.
Lin Mengmeng stood up, "I will be right back." She told the child as she hurried outside to pick the call.
As she came back, the little bun was replaced with a big bun.
"Where is he?"
She asked Raizel, she was certain the boy did not walk past him.
"Home. Through a transportation talisman." Raizel responded offhandedly. He did not want her to ask further questions.
"You...How could you send him home alone?"
Raizel raised his brows, "Not alone. He left with the transportation talisman."
If Lin Mengmeng did not see his serious expression, she would think that he was teasing her. How could a Raizel show such u concern towards his child?
A terrible and bold conjecture appeared in her mind.
