Chapter 40 - Survivors?

"What's going on?"

"This girl escaped from the Western District."

"Escaped?" Thomson frowned.

Nina's voice was filled with tears. "The Western District has completely fallen. Ever since the explosion at the Hessler Fuel Processing Station, the loud noise has attracted a large number of zombies from the south-east and Eastern District to head there. Among them, there are many of the mutated zombies that we saw earlier.

"There were many survivors in the subway station but it was breached by zombies half a month ago.

"Caitlin... She... Woo..."

Thomson pulled her into his arms and comforted her while analyzing the information contained in her words.

San Lorenzo, which was the city they were in, was separated by a large river from the southeast and northwest.

In the middle, there was a bridge that was several kilometers long, connecting the two banks.

However, the bridge was now blocked by abandoned vehicles and could not be passed through.

To the north of the Hessler Fuel Processing Station, there was an auxiliary bridge that led to other cities. Normally, no cars would pass through it.

However, as long as they passed this bridge, they would be able to reach the north side of the city.

Nina said that the huge noise caused by the Hessler explosion had attracted a large number of zombies. Then, for some unknown reason, they crossed the auxiliary bridge and occupied half of the city with the zombies in the northwest side of the city.

This was a very bad sign.

It meant that the difficulty of survival had increased exponentially. It was much more difficult than in the Southeast District.

There were not many survivors here, let alone over there.

Caitlin might have already died when the subway station was broken through half a month ago.

Thomson asked, "Where's the exit of the subway station connected to?"

"I don't know..."

Nina choked in Thomson's arms. She could not control her emotions when she thought about how her sister might have been killed by zombies.

Thomson comforted her again. He then asked about the girl.

After a while, Thomson had figured out the general situation.

There were many exits to the subway station.

Thomson also asked about the landmarks near each exit such as hotels, police stations, gas stations, hospitals, and so on.

Unfortunately, the girl did not know much. She only knew a few nearby buildings that she had frequented.

However, it was enough for Thomson to make the most basic judgment.

When the subway station was breached, a large number of people had fled to the east of the subway tunnel.

The nearest exits in this direction were either commercial buildings or parks and playgrounds.

These were places without any living resources. Moreover, the crowd had gathered in the dark, so danger lurked around them.

In Nina's description, Caitlin was a smart girl.

In such a critical situation, she would not blindly follow the crowd.

Although there were mutated zombies blocking the way in the south of the tunnel, there were not many of them.

As long as she was careful, she could still bypass them in the dark.

Mutated zombies lost their vision just like normal zombies.

Therefore, the possibility of avoiding these zombies was not low.

If Caitlin really took the south of the tunnel, then she was most likely to go to the police station three kilometers away to look for self-defense weapons.

After talking to Nina, she wanted to go to the police station immediately to see if there were any traces of Caitlin there.

"Don't worry, we still have to make some preparations."

Thomson stopped her and looked at the girl. "What about you? What do you plan to do?"

The girl was confused. "My family is dead... I..."

"If you're willing, why don't you follow us first?"

This was the first time Nina had made a decision on her own. Her small hand was tightly clutching Thomson's collar as she looked at him timidly.

Thomson touched her head and nodded slightly.

Nina also saw that the girl was so pitiful that she was moved by sympathy. He would definitely not blame her for this.

Following that, Thomson also checked the girl's attributes.

[Name: Tina.]

[Age: 16.]

[Strength: 8 (10 points for an ordinary person).]

[Speed: 13 (10 points for an ordinary person).]

[Vitality: 9 (10 points for an ordinary person).]

[Spirit: 10 (10 points for an ordinary person).]

[Special: 95 (she likes to be clean and has a lot of self-respect).]

[Ability: None.]

[Elemental ability: None.]

[Loyalty: 70 (max value: 100).]

...

It was a very ordinary girl. Apart from running fast, she did not have anything worthy of Thomson's attention.

'I can give her the water element affinity superpower awakening liquid. It'll be perfect for the mission.'

With that thought in mind, Thomson took out the awakening liquid from the system space and took the energy-storing condensed liquid as well. He planned to use it himself.

While fighting against the fire demon zombies, Thomson already felt very tired. Although he knew the weakness of this kind of zombies, he did not know if he would encounter stronger zombies when he reached his destination.

It was necessary for him to have a trump card.

Tina did not know what this thing was. After Nina had explained, she was surprised and quickly refused.

"Such a precious thing, it's better to leave it to Sister Nina. I... I can't protect you even if I use it..."

She was still immersed in self-blame. The death of her relatives while protecting her had caused her serious psychological trauma.

Thomson was not suitable to guide people, so this heavy responsibility naturally fell on Nina.

A girl's thoughts were more meticulous than a man's. Under Nina's comprehensive guidance, Tina finally nodded and agreed.

Soon, Thomson saw that Tina's loyalty to him had increased to eighty-five.

Obviously, she knew how important elemental abilities were to outsiders.

Seeing that Thomson had given her such a precious thing, Tina was naturally very grateful to Thomson.
