Nice work, given him phone number. Said Samantha.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Deanna had been hoping to get more than a sigh from her sister. But then, Samantha was driving, since Deanna had decided she didn't want to get behind the wheel again until they were somewhere sane.
Samantha was rationalizing like crazy. I just wanted him to be able to get in touch with us, in case-
In case he wanted to stare at you some more? C'mon, dude, he was totally into you. I mean, I even brought him a napkin when he got all misty eyed, and he barely noticed. She leaned back, clasping her hands behind her head. She was turned in to Samantha- TV. Said Deanna.
Well, Samantha said, maybe he appreciated somebody not trying so hard.
That was not trying hard. That was trying normal. Replied Deanna.
Maybe you woulda had better luck if you gave your name. Samantha grinned. I mean, he obviously likes to hold girls names Deanna. Or maybe you're not hirsute enough.
Deanna had been hoping Samantha wouldn't bring that up. Not there was a chance in hell that Samantha wouldn't, but she liked to dream, sometimes. Look, it's just- Then Deanna cut herself off.
An orangutan had the same name as her. There was just no comeback for that, and she was a good enough poker player to know when it was better to lay down than to keep playing. So what's the next step? Deanna asked.
You're just embarrassed cause you don't know what hirsute means. Said Samantha.
I'm not an idiot, Samantha. It means hairy. Now will you focus for a second? What's our next step? Deanna asked her younger sister.
