Chapter 15 - Act more forceful

Dr Neil arrived the company and raced to his office. On reaching there, he took out his telephone and dailed a number. On the fourth ring the call was received.

' Setup a press conference and I want all the mass media houses in our country to be present '. He ordered and after receiving the ' yes sir ' response, be dropped the call.

Picking up the telephone again, he dailed another number. This time the call was received instantly.

' Reschedule all my meetings for tomorrow. Get a speech concerning the recent news on social media ready for me. I need the speech ready in fifteen minutes '. He ordered another person and when he got the ' yes sir ' response, he dropped the call.

After making the required calls, he opened the files on his table and started signing the ones he could sign.

' Sir, the press conference is ready '. His PA announced as he entered his office.

' Very good, get me my silver colored suit from the lounge '. He ordered without looking up.

The PA carried out the order immediately and came back with the suit after some minutes.

Dr Neil got dressed and with the help of the PA, wore the coat. After adjusting his tie, the two left the office and went down to meet the reporters.

He collected the prepared speech from his PA and climbed the podium. Cameras flashed as he adjusted the mic to speak.

' I appreciate everyone of you that made out time to be here to get clarity of things. I, Dr Neil Bridge called for this press conference regarding the uprise of negative information and news flooding the social media. Most of you know with the help of these reporters that my daughter was admitted in our hospital, the cause for now will be withheld. A reporter saw when my family arrived the hospital with my sick daughter and shot the news into the media.

Before that my wife had called me and told me that they were rushing our daughter to the hospital. I arrived the hospital few minutes after they arrived and with the help of my bodyguards evaded the reporters who had clouded the entrance of the hospital, using my private door. But after waiting for minutes without seeing me, many thought that though I had received the news, I refused to come see my daughter. Some thought I was too busy to come and that I chose wealth over my daughter.

Those rash and untrue headlines got me annoyed. For one to think that I would chose wealth over my family is completely annoying and stupid. I work day and night to fend for family and provide my children and unborn grandchildren a better future but some people decided to post fake news on social media. If any reporter does that from now on, I will sue the media house. God bless you '.

He concluded and got off the podium. Everyone including his PA were awestruck. He had constructed a well pleasing speech for Dr Neil. It was all about explaining why he was not there at that time and after it, he was to thank the people for noting when something is not right but he went off his prepared speech and out of anger threatened to sue companies. Who does that?

Cameras kept on flashing but the people holding them were in gaze. No one could believe that Dr Neil could be so harsh. The respect they had for hum suddenly turned fear. Fear that anything can happen to anyone if he or she says anything rash against him or his family.

So Dr Neil and his PA left the arena within being questioned.

' Transfer a hundred dollars to every reporter that was present and thank them for coming '. Dr Neil commanded his PA as he removed his tie. He then ordered his driver to take them straight to the hospital. He had to see Rosella.

' Mother see this '. Mina shouted as she saw her father on TV, addressing the issue of his absence at the hospital.

Mrs Neil was about pouring water into a cup for Rosella to drink as Rosella was eating. Both she and Rosella turned to the television when Mina asked them to.

' I work day and night to fend for family and provide my children and unborn grandchildren a better future but some people decided to post fake news on social media. If any reporter does that from now on, I will sue the media house. God bless you '.

As the broadcast ended, everyone looked at each other with widened eyes.

' You see what I have been saying? Your father is a liar. He could lie to the extent of going public with it. Work day and night for who? Now he is threatening to sue people that are proudly doing their job. This is hypocrisy and pretence and he is doing it all for himself '. She bawled in anger.

' Mommy, you have to calm down '. Rosella pleaded in a weak tone.

' Don't tell to calm down. Your father is a hypocrite '. She shouted on top of her voice.

' Here's a wrapper ' . Mina handed her a wrapper.

' What for? '. She asked as she collected it.

' To complete the process of acting as a typical African woman '. She voiced and sat on her seat.

Rosella chuckled and continued eating her food.

' What does that have to mean? '. She felt insulted by what Mina was saying.

' Only African women act like you just acted when it have to do with their husbands. Like this country, what's the name again?.... Nigeria. When their husbands are not pleasing them or giving them what they want or are not doing their jobs properly like giving them money for welfare, they remove their head scarfs and tie it round their waist as they shout and scream in anger like they are ready to fight with their husbands. And that mother, was what you were trying to do. You just have to tie that wrapper round your waist and act more ferociously. Act more forceful '. Mina concluded and crossed her legs.

Mrs Neil widened her eyes in amazement.
