Solana stepped in; her pocket vibrated. 'brrring' 'brrring' It was her phone. On the screen, it displayed a picture of caramel haired boy smiling, his name was displayed. Solana read, it was her ex-boyfriend, Cameron.
I stared, etching the cheater's face into my mind. As the phone continued to buzz.
'Rrrhh, what does this cheater want?' Even though I have no feelings for him, he shouldn't have cheated the previous Solana with her friend.' 'Whatever, I'm not going to answer his call!'
'I want to decline, so which button is it?'
"Is it the green button or the red one?" Uncertain, Solana's eyes shifted, my finger traced, moving to and fro, left and right on the screen.
"AHHH!!!" "That's it, I will just randomly press one" closed my eyes, with hesitation my hand trembled and press it.
The phone stopped vibrating; slowly opened my eyes and sighed.
Out of the blue, a masculine voice said "Hello…" Startled, I jumped in fright, screamed "OH NO!"
'Thud' I dropped the phone.
Cameron said "Hello Amelia… Are you there?" stayed silent, and bended down to pick the phone.
"Amelia, listen to me…"
"Why should I listen to a bloody cheater?"
He said "Oh! You know wait… let me explain"
Pricked, my face contorted into a scowl, clenched her phone. With a raised voice, I said "Explain, you don't need to explain"
"I will stop by your… pl" 'beep'
Not wanting to hear another word from him. I ended the call, and huffed.
Who knows whether he is sincere or not?
I hope that guy stops troubling me and just moves on 'It will be better, if don't meet that scoundrel again in the near future' 'For me and the old Solana'
Dad walked in, said "Solana, what would you like for supper?"
"Anything is fine, Dad"
"Ok, then you better freshen up…" Dad said, heading to the kitchen. "Sheesh, you reek of booze."
Taking a whiff of my clothes. I exclaimed "eww… yuck" my lips curled in disgust. I pinched my nose, drawing my head away.
"Haha"
Turned to the kitchen and thought, I heard Dad laughing. I must be imagining things.
He clearly seems busy, cutting the vegetables.
A lot has been changed after thousands of years, wonder what does the bedroom of a twenty-first century teenager look like? Now, where would my room be?
Oh. I know, upstairs!
The wooden stairs, squeaked as I climbed up. I wandered around the whole floor, checking all of the rooms on the floor. Before I reached the last room. 'This must be my room.' I thought, lightly pushed open the door.
I scanned the room, taking in the details, as my feet stepped on the white carpeted floor.
Light shone in through the white drapes, falling first on the cushioned bench under the bay window.
The walls were painted sky blue, with white fluffy clouds behind the bed. Matched the white bedsheets with blue florals and a drawer on the right. And a wooden desk, cluttered with papers and posters opposite the bed.
It was beautiful. A hundred times better than my old bedroom. I plopped on the bed, appraising my room while my hands touched, feeling the soft yet firm mattress. Even the bed is comparable to a Queen's. Luxurious.
Noticing the messy desk, I picked the papers up and organized them into one stack. Like a flipbook, I slowly turned the pages, admiring her paintings and sketches of beautiful dresses and costume designs.
'Wow!!!' 'They are gorgeous! I didn't expect the previous Solana to be such a talented artist'
Dad did say she wanted to become a fashion designer. Ironically laughed at the thought. 'I guess both of us got our lives cut short.'
Safely tucked the paintings in the desk's drawer. And searched for the closet. 'Maybe this is her closet?' I thought, landing my eyes on a door next to the bed.
I opened, and flipped the switch on. It was full of clothes.
'I guess, this must be her closet' 'So, many clothes. Man, I envy her, I had only four dresses in my old life'
The hangers squeaked against the rack, as I pushed, looking through her clothes. 'Nah, not this one' 'What about this one? Let's try this.'
Sixty minutes later,
I panted, lying on my back, with half of the clothes on the floor.
Sighed. It's not like I hate her clothes, it is just that most of them are either too tight, too flashy or too short for my taste.
After taking a short break, 'Let me check the others'
Dad said from below. "Solana, lunch is almost ready"
"Ok. Dad, I will be down in a minute!" said.
'Forget it, it will try them later' tossed a few decent clothes aside and wore white blouse with pink skirt, slightly above my knees. Quickly combed my hair and rushed downstairs.
Dad was laying the table, fit for two. I wanted to help him, knowing my thoughts. Without looking, he gestured me to sit down. I obeyed and took my seat. He pulled the chair opposite of mine, said "Let's pray" joining his hands together in a prayer form. And silently prayed with him. Praying for my mother's health, the princess's safety and thanked God for my new life.
Ending the prayer, we dig in.
Dad said "Solana, can you pass the mashed potatoes?"
Served myself, adding a couple to beef patties, a scoop of mushroom gravy and Caesar salad and a dollop of mashed potatoes. While eating with a slice of bread, Dad passed a bowl of rice, he said "Here, have some!" I smiled and allowed him to serve me, three scoops of rice.
When I was emptying my plate. He suddenly got up and went to the kitchen. Wearing oven mitts, he came back with a baking pan in his hands.
My mouth watered, as I breathed in a strong aroma. Pleasantly surprised, my eyes twinkled. I stood on my toes, unable to see what he was holding.
He lightly chucked, said "Hey, wait. You will get your share!"
He laid the pan on the table as, steam clouded above, the apple pie.
I jumped next to him, said "Give me! Give mee!" He quietly sliced two pieces for me. Not waiting another moment, I forked a bite. Savouring the sweetness, moaned in delight "Hmm. Yummy"
"Dad, you have to teach me to make this! It's amazing"
Dad said "Haha, Sure. Hon!" having his share.
After having our supper, I offered to wash the dishes and carried the plates to the basin. Dad said "Really? Thanks, hon!" giving me a firm pat on the back.
Solana's father went to the living room, and switched the television on. Before he parked himself, 'Ding-dong' the doorbell rang.
"I will get that!" He hurried to get the door. He grunted, shouted "Solana, there is a punk at our door. He must be that Clammy boy"
Knowing who he was talking about, I walked out of the kitchen, said "I don't want to see him"
Finding it interesting, he raised a brow, as he stood against the wall with folded arms. "Why? Didn't you say you like him?"
I leaned into his ear, and whispered. The doorbell kept ringing.
Furious, he exclaimed "Why that bastard? I will give him a piece of my mind"
Grabbed his arm, said "Hold on Dad, I will deal with him"
Dad gently looked into my eyes, he said "Are you sure? I can shoo that crow for you"
I giggled and gave him a nod. Dad said "If you say so… Then I will be in the kitchen. If he acts funny, just scream and I will beat the living daylights out of that punk"
He gave a dazzling smile, and flashed a thumbs up, said "You can guarantee it"
We both laughed, forgetting the unwanted guest at the door. Dad slapped my back, pushing me forward. 'Wack' Dad ran. Rubbing my back, I moaned "Hey, that hurts"
"That was for good luck" he said from a distance, as I casted him a dirty look.
And slowly opened the door. A tall boy entered my sight, as he leaned forward, his aquatic blue eyes glowed.
Studying him from head to toe, I internally evaluated him. 'Damn, Now, I see why the old Solana liked him? Dashing... Handsome!'
"Amelia, can we sit down and talk?" His eyes hinted me to invite him in.
With a fake smile, I said "Isn't today, such a lovely day?" blocking the entrance.
"Fine" he said, in a dimmed tone.
Cameron stepped back, said "Amanda come out!"
A head popped at the corner of the house. She sheepishly smiled, said "Hello, Amelia" She walked to the entrance, her black hair whipped with breeze. Her heels clicked against the wooden floor.
Amanda went to Cameron and snuggled herself in his chest, affectionately holding his hand. Cameron pecked her cheeks. Amanda grinned, said "We didn't mean to hurt you... It just kinda happened."
'What a shameless couple?' I thought, my nails digging into my palm. With a calm expression, acting like there was no harm done. I said "Oh! It's alright... so, what are you here for?"
Cameron said "We are here to apologise; we are sorry for not informing you about us"
Annoyed, my eyes narrowed, said "Oh really, but I can't feel your sincerity!"
Unemotional like a robot, Cameron said "Ok" He pulled out a wad of cash from his wallet. "Here"
Gazing him with an unreadable expression, I thought 'Seriously, Money for what?' 'Don't tell me he is just like those nobles from my world... they love flaunting their money. What a disgusting man!' 'Is that the real reason why the previous Solana loved him? No, it can't be. She can't be that cheap!'
I frowned as he pushed the money into my hands.
Amanda pulled out a Gucci handbag from her shopping bag. Amanda said "Can we be friends again?"
Suddenly, I raised my voice, said "Enough" they both jolted a step back.
"Can we hold on for a moment?" I said, pinching my forehead.
I gestured them to sit down, Amanda smugly sat on Cameron's lap and purred like a fat cat.
'Is she taunting me? Whatever it is, she disgusts me!'
Implosively, said "So, how long were you guys together?" hands on my hips.
Amanda said "Not too long, it's been three months"
"Oh, if I didn't find out, would you guys continue dating behind my back?"
Amanda opened her mouth, with dodgy eyes, she said "Aaa.. no"
"From the looks of your face! I can tell it is a big fat lie!"
"And you! Cameron, if she didn't have the guts, then why didn't you try to break it to me?"
Cameron looked down.
"Another thing, throwing money doesn't always solve a problem." and handed the money back to Cameron. "Here take it! I plenty of them!"
"Respect is what I value and the way you handed me your money, shows you never really respected or liked me in the first place"
Impulsively, Cameron stood up in panic, he said "No, I didn't mean to."
"They why did you bring Amanda and acts all lovely-dovely in front of me?"
Cameron stuttered "I... I thought"
Interrupted her, said "You thought what?"
Amanda said "Amelia, calm down... we just didn't want to hurt your feelings"
"If you did care about my feelings, you could have told me something before you started eloping with Cameron?"
Amanda lowered her head, gripping her black skirt.
"I'm sorry Amanda. I don't think we can't be friends anymore; the damage has been done."
"Oh, and Cameron since you are in a relationship with Amanda. I would prefer that, you to stay away from me"
"Amelia" Cameron shouted, gazing me with a sullen face
I turned form them, heading to the door, I said "I won't mind, if you guys continue your relationship." "Goodbye"
Before I closed the door, Amanda held the door.
Amanda cried "Wait... I'm sorry, can you please forgive me?"
Poker face, I said "You are forgiven, but the trust is already broken. We can't be friends. Goodbye" Amanda froze and slowly withdrew her hand.
Slammed the door shut. Sighed, leaning my back against the door, and slumped to ground. Heard the shuffling of feet.
I hope those two will leave me alone.
Amanda seems so… fake, that I just find her distasteful, no matter how sweet her tongue is. I won't fall for it, as she isn't the first person, I have met that has a glib tongue and a scheming heart. There is no way I want to associate myself with a person like her.
But Cameron, why did he seem sad? Am I missing something? Whatever it is, I don't care.
