"Later mom," I shouted as I run out of the house.
"Cat, where are you going?" my mom called after me but I was in a hurry to reach Hill Top residential area, I needed to see him one last time before he headed out of the country.
I took the bus and arrived in front of his gate in twenty minutes time, but I was late as I see that his car has already left. It was my last chance to confess but I was late yet again.
It has been three years that I had been secretly looking at him from the shadows, and had been hiding my feelings from him as well as my two best friends. I was grateful for them, because if wasn't for them I wouldn't have even gotten the chance to know him and I would have been like the other girls in our school that would wish that he took a look at them.
"You are late," I heard the voice from behind me.
I turned around and there I saw him, Matthew Bruce, my senior that was two years older than me, the handsomest, all rounder and richest guy that attended my high school.
"I thought you left," I said in a shy voice.
"Oh, I thought you came to meet your friends," he said looking at me confused.
"Oh right," I said and instantly looked away. 'God this is embarrassing.'
"You want to come in?" he asked me.
"Am, no, I should be heading back," I said and turned to walk towards the bus stop. It was only then I remember I brought a gift for him, "Am, this is for you," I turned around quickly, I end up bumping into something and almost fell, yes almost.
I felt a pair of arms circled around my waist as I was pulled forward into a chest. I couldn't help it but touch the firm chest in front of me. "You like it?" I heard a whisper in my ear.
'Oh God, please hide me, I can't believe I just touched his chest,' I thought and stopped touching him. "Thanks," I said as I try to steady myself.
"No problem, you brought this for me?" he asked after he ensured that I was capable enough to stand on my own two feet and released me before he held the gift bag that was in my hand.
"Yes, yes," I said nervously and quickly released the bag.
"Thank you, you sure you don't want to come inside?"
"I should get back, my mom has to go to work soon for her shift at the hospital, my dad is out of town on a business trip and I have to babysit my two sisters," I said and realized I started rambling.
"Oh, okay. I shouldn't keep you back then," he said and smiled.
"I should go," I said and turned to walk away. I took two steps but then stopped and turned around, I closed my eyes and said, "Matthew Bruce I like you."
"I couldn't tell," I heard him say, I felt even more embarrassed and I didn't want to open my eyes. I was afraid to see the disgust and rejection in his eyes.
"Cat."
"Yes?"
"Look at me."
"I'm afraid."
"Afraid of what?"
"Your rejection and disgust."
"I, I am not disgusted with you."
"Come on, you hesitated to say that. I know you are because I am from a poor family."
"Look at me, please."
"I am sorry, I should go. I shouldn't have said nothing. I know I am not like Jenner or Jamie. I am sorry," I said and turned quickly before opening my eyes and running to the bus stop.
I wanted to cry, but I was afraid to embarrass myself more in front of him. I just wish a hole could open up below me and swallow me right now. I stood like an idiot in the bus stop waiting for the bus, 'How stupid of me? I shouldn't have said anything.'
"Cat," I heard him, I heard him. 'I am hearing things now,' I thought to myself but still turned in the direction I thought I heard his voice. There he was standing looking at me. "Can we make a deal?"
"What deal is that?"
"I promise I will wait for you."
"Huh?" I looked at him in confusion.
"If you get accepted and attend NYU in the next two years, you will become my girlfriend. I might even marry you," he said.
"Are you serious?"
"Yes, I am. But remember you must be accepted and attend my university."
"I will, I promise I will."
"Good."
"Please don't forget me senior," I shouted after him as I saw him heading back to the gate to his house. He waved at me before he entered.
I was so excited that I started to jump on the spot at the bus stop, I folded my arms and started laughing as I started to shout, "Yes, yes, yes."
I couldn't believe it, he said I would become his girlfriend once I get accepted and started to attend NYU together with him. Oh my god, it was unbelievable. I was so excited that I didn't even realize that I got on the bus when it came, dropped off near home and did everything my mother told me to do with a broad smile on my face.
I was excited so much that I started to read and prepare notes for the next two years of my education at high school. I was so happy that the next two years of my education in high school didn't even feel exhausting and the finals didn't even seem like a problem.
I only realized what day it was until was holding the letter from NYU in my hands and I was nervous to open and see if I had been accepted or rejected.
"Open it," my little sister said, as she, my other sister and my parents were sitting with me in the living room anxious to see if I had been accepted.
I took a deep breath and then opened the letter and started reading, "Dear Ms. Katrine Paul, Congratulations, you have been accepted to attend New York University and as one of our esteemed students to attend we wish to inform you that you have been approved with a scholarship."
