Chapter 49 - "Second Chance"

Lai Jiayi kept checking on Yaya, but since she didn't know much about AI, the girl could only stare blankly at the motionless AI.

'Should I take him to the nearby AI shop? But what about the game secrecy?' Lai Jiayi pondered before slumping to the floor again.

'I'm so useless. I can't even help my AI. Can I save my father? The game had just begun, yet I already made such a huge mistake!'

Lai Jiayi sobbed again quietly as she kept poking or stroking Yaya's body, hoping that he would wake up.

'I can be eliminated, but Yaya can't die! I will also do something to protect my father, but..can I?'

Lai Jiayi couldn't help but feel down again.

"My fear of men is my greatest weakness that will really obstruct my way in the future, but what can I do?" Lai Jiayi muttered as tears streamed down her cheek.

'I can only cry...cry and cry. So...weak.'

The girl who rarely cried was now crying for the sake of an AI. She even cried for a long time until her nose was red like a reindeer.

This sight might look ugly for others but for Yaya...it touched his heart, making him almost cried too.

'Jia loved me more than I thought, right?'

The feeling of being loved and wanted by someone made Yaya feel like he's in the seventh heaven.

Since he's a 'defect' AI, who was very hard to be controlled by the system, no one liked him. No one in the game company liked him.

He was always alone, lonely, and sad. No one understood him, and he was even about to be demolished before he got this mission to be a player's partner.

Now...his contractor, the last person he hoped to like him– turned up to be the one who paid most attention.

She chose to hide her tears in front of others, but now she's openly crying for him?

Yaya couldn't help but feel warm inside.

'Ah...I can't keep this act any longer.'

"...hey quack." Yaya slowly opened his eyes and whispered 'weakly'. His sudden action made the crying girl stop for a second.

With her red eyes, she looked at the duck who already gained consciousness.

"Yaya..?" Lai Jiayi's voice was trembling as she made sure she wasn't dreaming.

She thought that since she was eliminated already– Yaya was killed as a result. Maybe they wanted to keep the game an absolute secret even went as far as killing the AI.

But then just as she lost all hopes for her father– for this adorable AI that she surprisingly liked more than she thought…

The duck woke up. He looked so weak as if he had just come back from the death door.

'He...he didn't die! Yaya..is alive! Does this mean I...am not eliminated yet??'

Excited, Lai Jiayi quickly checked Yaya's body, starting from his head to his toe, "Yaya, you...are you okay??"

She even wanted to bring him to a nearby AI shop just to check if he's alright or not.

Her rushed action made Yaya couldn't help but chuckle. "I'm fine, quack. Don't worry, quack. Was just too shocked and got the system freeze quack~ "

Yaya then nudged his head to Lai Jiayi's neck and wriggled to enter her orange-uniform.

He feared that he would laugh out loud the longer he stayed outside. He couldn't let Jiayi knew that he was just acting before.

"Really? So, you are okay? I'm so glad…I'm sorry...sorry..." Lai Jiayi hurriedly hugged the small duck resting inside her clothes.

The girl carefully hugged him, using only her palms as he's far too small to be hugged by her body.

"Sorry. Sorry, I'm too useless…"

"Yes, quack, I'm okay, quack, don't worry, ah quack." Yaya suppressed the urge to laugh as he once again reassured Lai Jiayi.

"Okay...good…" Lai Jiayi sighed in relief, and her body suddenly felt extremely weak. "I think I'll skip class today…" Lai Jiayi sobbed.

"It's okay, quack. You must be tired, quack. Now let's go home?" Yaya snuggled at the girl.

"Mn…" Relieved, Lai Jiayi then went to the restroom to change her clothes, wobbling. She looked like she has aged a lot.

The girl still didn't ask again about the matter with the game as if she had been satisfied with Yaya waking up.

Seeing this, Yaya couldn't help but once again felt that the lesson he gave was overboard.

'Well, as long as Lai Jiayi realizes her mistakes and tries to fix it later...it will be okay.'

While watching Lai Jiayi change her clothes, Yaya thought that it's time to tell her about the game.

'She's not eliminated yet. She's just ALMOST eliminated.'

Yaya then carefully tried to bring up the thing with the barometer as to cheer up the girl.

"So...you see, quack, we are actually lucky as the barometer stopped at 0, quack. It didn't touch minus, quack!"

Yaya finally told Lai Jiayi the good news.

"So, you're not eliminated quack, not yet, quack." The AI ended it with a hidden meaning.

Not yet means if, in the future, Jiayi wasn't careful, she might be eliminated.

Once Lai Jiayi heard this piece of news, she felt utterly relieved. The heavy burden in her heart suddenly vanished like smoke.

'I'm still not eliminated! I can still play the game! My father...will be safe for now.'

"Oh God, this...is this a second chance for me to redeem my mistake?" Lai Jiayi's eyes brightened.

"It can be quack." Yaya nodded.

"If that's the case...I can't mess up this second chance I got." Lai Jiayi swore to herself.

'As opportunity only comes once…I can't waste it, absolutely must not!'
