Suppressing her anger, Lai Jiayi ignored the AI and gritted her teeth before clicking on the spin button.
'Since I'm unlucky to get the most difficult guy out of the five men, I shouldn't be too unlucky to get the worst job, right?'
The girl stared unblinkingly at the spin wheel, afraid of missing even the slightest change on the screen.
'I will get at least a good job this time!'
A few seconds later, the wheel stopped spinning around, and the needle landed on a certain job.
DING DONG!
[Congratulations! Player Lai got an E rank job, a cleaning service!]
Following the machine-like voice was a huge mop and broom picture appearing on the screen. The picture was so huge and somehow bright that it occupied almost half of the phone screen.
Lai Jiayi: (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
"WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS??" the girl shouted on top of her lung.
She glared at the poor innocent AI with all of her might. Lai Jiayi felt like smashing this AI to pieces and grind him for dinner.
'E rank job! The lowest, the worst kind of job I can get. A mere cleaning service.'
"HOW THE HECK I CAN MEET THE TARGET THIS WAY???" she roared until her eyes almost popped out.
The girl's eyes were full of tears as she glared at the AI.
Seeing the girl really ended up getting the worst job, the AI didn't know what to say.
'So this girl is only suitable to clean up things? But why not be a housemaid, ah??'
The AI decided to tell Lai Jiayi the truth, so that the girl wouldn't blame anyone else but herself.
He said in a rather annoyed tone, "You see– quack, the job is actually not based on luck, quack!" He took a deep breath.
"It's actually assigned based on each player's capability, quack!"
The AI glared at Lai Jiayi. As if what he said wasn't enough, he delivered a final blow to the poor girl's fragile heart.
"It means you are only capable of cleaning, quack!"
….hahaha.
Lai Jiayi's body trembled so much that if she's a God, there would be an earthquake right away.
"Cleaning? Am I only capable of cleaning? But why don't the game assign me to be a housemaid then?! I can cook too!!" Her face turned purple-red.
"Don't ask me, quack, I'm not the developer, ah!" the duck refuted.
"Ughh!!" Lai Jiayi's chest went up and down in suppressed anger. Steams keep coming out from her head, looking like a locomotive train.
It's already a blessing that she didn't kill this AI for lying to her about choosing the job.
'It turned out the game already assigned the job to each player? So why should I spin this damn wheel?!'
"I want to quit!" Lai Jiayi threw her body back to the bed. Her face was lifeless, and her eyes looked soulless.
Sensing Lai Jiayi's anger and disappointment, the AI also couldn't help but feel downhearted.
He didn't think that the game would be so cruel to give his contractor such a measly job.
A cleaning service. There's a reason why this job got an E rank, and that's because the time to interact with the target through this job...was very, very short.
"B-but maybe you will still meet the target…" the duck tried to coax the girl.
"You will clean the target's environment, quack! Where he lives!" he added.
Lai Jiayi only glanced at him. "Tell me about the job schedule."
"From 6 a.m to 8 a.m, quack…" The duck's voice weakened.
"When does the target usually leave his house?" Lai Jiayi asked again.
"Around 7 or 8…"
"So, I only have an hour to interact." Lai Jiayi laughed mockingly.
"But you still have the chance, quack– "
"Oh, wait. Even this one hour might actually not be an hour." the girl interrupted.
"Eh, why, quack?" the duck tilted his head.
"Why? Because who would talk to a cleaning service for more than a minute? The target will only pass by me and go straight to work!!"
Lai Jiayi glared at the AI with red eyes. "Where's the chance to interact? None!"
Hearing Lai Jiayi's foretell, the AI also threw his body to the bed and shamelessly buried his face on Lai Jiayi's pillow.
'It's over…'
He looked like he already gave up on things.
Lai Jiayi was also the same. She weakly raised up and slowly went down to eat. An hour or so had passed, and she didn't eat dinner yet.
"Whatever. Forget this. I'm too tired to think of anything."
Just like that, the robot-human pair spent their night quietly, in despair.
_________
The next morning, Sunday. A day before the game started.
"...Girl, I think we have to talk -quack," the AI suddenly spoke next to Lai Jiayi when the girl was brushing her teeth in the bathroom. He looked really serious.
At first, Lai Jiayi ignored the AI feeling tired of the game, but the AI urged her, disturbing her peaceful time brushing her teeth.
"Wha ya wanna ask bout," Lai Jiayi spoke as she kept brushing her teeth, making the words she produced could barely be heard.
At this moment, the bathroom was so silent that the only sound they could hear was the noise of someone brushing her teeth echoing in the small, square bathroom.
The girl glanced at the AI through the mirror as she moved her hand. Her green toothbrush shone under the dim light inside the bathroom.
Simultaneously, the sunlight enters the mint-colored bathroom wall, sending off a rather calming vibe.
Seeing the mint color of the wall soothed Lai Jiayi for a while, but still, she's tired.
The girl didn't speak anymore and only occasionally glanced at the AI before resuming her activity.
She really was too tired to even talk about anything, including the game.
"Leave me alone, " Lai Jiayi murmured.
"Oh c'mon, don't be like that, quack. The game hasn't even started, quack!" The AI slapped Lai Jiayi's head.
"What are you– "
Not waiting any longer, the AI spoke in a rather energetic tone, "I know the job you get isn't good, quack, but...you can get an additional job later– quack!"
"What? What do you mean?" Lai Jiayi squinted her eyes.
"For those who get a 'bad' job, there's an additional job or side job provided, quack!" the AI hurriedly explained.
"There's still hope! We can't give up now!"
