X denotes Primary Union. It is the initial phase of flawless merging with one's corresponding power. This process gives an enormous boost in overall performance.
When a swordsman enters Primary Union, he assimilates himself into the essence of the sword. When a fire-mage enters Primary Union, the person inhales the purity and properties of the fire. It's a stage difficult to describe and rare to witness.
And a battle between these two would be world-shaking!
