Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 - A Series Of 'Gentle' Interactions

"kiki kee ki kee"

"agu gu ga gu"

"..."

A myriad of incomprehensible noises pulled the shackled earthling from his unconscious state. A searing sting assaulted him at the very moment he opened his eyes.

The sudden pop-up of the agonising sensation gave birth to numerous questions. While trying his best to cope up with the ache, Adam, who doesn't know that his name is Adam, slowly opened his eyes like a newborn baby.

"What?!"

The sight that Adam perceived was beyond his imagination. He has silently watched and observed numerous beings, but this green complexioned subhuman species with a strip of beast skin hiding its gender identity jolted his non-existent soul out of the body!

As soon as he let out a shriek, the heads turned at him and the club-wielding bipedal beings walked to him like a predator.

Unbeknownst to Adam, this green-viridescent omnivorous social being with protruding lower canine teeth are called Goblins.

Before the prisoner could catch the gist of the situation and the surroundings, an unrefined club drew a horizontal arc and gently kissed his cheek. It's just that the gentleness was brimming with savagery.

At once, Adam was thrown away like a thin sack of potatoes.

"Gahh!!"

A sweet sensation began to well in his mouth and the thick red fluid oozed out of the corners of his lips. His jaw was dislocated and the throbbing injected an awful lot of frenzy into his bloodstream.

Before he could comprehend the situation, the double-knot with which his forelimbs were secured behind him was torn apart. The blistering sensation incoming from the recently activated pain receptors murmured one thing to him - Kill!

The goblin that successfully executed the homerun remained stationary while its companion rushed to Adam. Its vicious cry rose into the air along with the crude wooden spike.

But, before it could leap onto the protagonist, a handful of dirt attacked the undefended eyes of the being. The unprecedented soil offence let the beast staggering in agony. The raw wooden short-spear fell from its grip.

And that sealed the goblin's fate!

Adam had already untied the bunch of vines binding his legs. His liberated hindlimbs launched his torso at the stunned goblin. As his shoulder collided and threw the goblin off-balance, his fingers have already wrapped around the descending coarse weapon.

The club had already commenced a counterattack and Adam failed to defend properly. Thus he was hit on his head and his trajectory deviated. Nonetheless, the wooden spike was already in his hand.

Before the blunt wooden weapon could take another shot, Adam had pushed the tip of the spear forward. While embracing the floor in an inelegant manner, his assault tore a hole in the opponent's neck.

"Gi..."

A moment of cry and the goblin fell. It didn't die right away but was clutching its neck in vain. The unique dark-green blood of the subhuman gushed out like a broken water pipe and it shuddered for its life while gasping. Fortunately, the being breathed its last within a minute.

Meanwhile, the second goblin succeeded in catching a glimpse of what was happening amidst the excruciating pain. As a species with relatively large and sensitive eyes, Adam's assault found its mark and disabled its movements.

As soon as it glanced at its companion twitching helplessly, anger erupted in its heart and its hands extended towards the club. But the very moment, its grip solidified on the wooden object, a rugged spike pierced its chest.

"..."

The high-speed action sequence consummated within a few dozen seconds.

The moment the second goblin's soul left its body, Adam's conscience reverted to normal. At once, a wet blanket of fatigue pulled him down to the ground.

"...what are these thing?" Adam's eyes rose and stared at the lifeless body of the greenish bipedal beings. The twin black pupils silently observed the corpses through his wayward hair.

After a few moments of silent contemplation, Adam disciplined his black hair reaching his shoulder with his hands. His forelimbs then carefully checked the vitality of the goblins and confirmed them dead.

It was then his eyes caught the untidy threadbare enclosure which looked like a third-rate storage room.

Though the wooden construct looked frail, it was surprisingly sturdy. The sunlight seeping through the rifts between the wooden planks gave enough illumination to perceive the room clearly.

"Gi gi gee..."

The sudden perception of the subhuman cry alerted Adam and he tiptoed to the wall and peeked through a vertical breach among the planks.

"Is this... a village?" Muttering to himself, Adam drew his initial evaluations upon witnessing about a few dozen of similar creatures with crude wooden settlements and weapons.

Gulp!

A pair of relatively larger and stout green bipedal beings walking through the premise caught his sight and Adam almost staggered backwards. Not only were they strange and visibly hostile, but their skeletal structure and the wielded weapons were also much more intimidating than these measly beings Adam killed on a whim.

Unknown to Adam, these savage-looking larger versions of goblins were called Orcs.

'What should I do?'

A thorough observation through a couple more clefts revealed that Adam was currently situated inside a tiny pound at the edge of a settlement that has a crude village format. After confirming that the unruly shack is being avoided by most villagers, Adam turned his head to the corpses.

'Hmm... I wonder.'

Numerous questions were brewing inside Adam's mind. Thus he silently neared one of the corpses and keenly inspected it.

'I wonder if they are the inhabitants of this world.'

As a person migrated from Earth where humans hold superiority, Adam's primary guess was that these green species with a sense of nakedness are the sovereign beings of this world. But he quickly discarded his assumption due to their underdeveloped settlement setup and crude crafting methods.

Moreover, he has witnessed hordes of beasts stampeding across the land in silence soon after reaching his destination.

The observation picked up a notch and the session of dissection dawned.

The skeletal structure of the goblin was a degenerated version of Homosapiens of Earth. Adam could tell that from his initial observations and an 'in-depth' study.

Yet, only one discovery brought a wide grin on his face.

"As expected, these creatures also have crystals in them."

The fact that he found an inconspicuous crystalline object both inside a bizarre snake and a bipedal creature pointed at two possible conclusions - either both are beasts or all beings houses these crystals.

But the lack of valid information left Adam standing at the crossroad, blinking clueless.

It was then...

"Rawr!!!"

A deafening roar swept across the entire area followed by a chorus of outcry. Adam was stunned to the core by this sudden turn of events and he almost shrieked out loud.

Regaining his composure, he peeked through a crevice of the enclosure. But what caught his sight was an airborne orc hurled at the threadbare construct.

Crash!

Even before Adam could move out of the trajectory, the giant torso had collided with the frail wooden construct. The momentum housed by the body came in contact with Adam's face and his body experienced a whiplash effect.

Rawr!

While Adam flew a few dozen metres away after receiving the force head-on, the orc was able to shake off the shock it was bestowed by the unexpected enemy. Springing up on its feet, it didn't have a second to spare to care for the surroundings or the dissected corpses under the rubble as it dashed at the opponent.

"Ngh..."

All Adam was able to produce was a faint moan. It's not because he was graced with the kinetic energy, but the after-effects with which the kinetic energy dissipated from him.

Adam was launched towards a sea of trees when he took off from the ground. A couple of collisions that occurred shortly after left Adam well-versed in the sturdiness of typical trees. The abrupt introduction via almost all parts of his body numbed his senses and nerves for a brief moment.

While lying down bewildered by the unanticipated turn of events, Adam's ears picked up auditory sensations. Each cry and howl was brimming with hostility and savagery. There were moans of pain and agony of death frequently entering his ears.

'What is happening?'

A question mark had materialised in his heart while pondering over the auditory signals. And as soon as he realised the numbness receding from his body, he urged his forelimbs to help him have a good view of the situation.

But when he turned his head, he had the fright of his life.
