Chapter 12 - Chapter 2: Full Fire & Empty Smoke (VI)

I turned my attention to the Red's shooting at us on our left, failing to notice ahead of time the advantage we were holding on them. It appeared that when they swerved to avoid the bus, the crimson beast was force to maneuver on the opposite side of the road. Vehicles of all varieties were speeding their way or breaking to avoid crashing into other cars that has already lost control.

The blue lights were getting closer.

I wasn't The only one that noticed.

"K.O." I heard Smoke call in a calm tone as I swerved around a navy blue Lexus filled with a family of normals.

More bullets came flying from behind, three of the Red's stood armed in the truck bed pursuing at our rear. Micro Uzi's and Tech Nine's were spitting akimbo in each of the cocksucker's possession.

"K.O."

The beast on the other side of the divider started falling behind little by little, having trouble trying to slaughter and swerve at the same time. The Reds behind us kept firing while approaching, the driver of that beast was pretty skilled to control a powerful body while dodging traffic.

"K.O."

"WHAT?!" I answered at the top of my tone, slightly irritated by the mobile madness outside the car and mysterious contempt within. His Fray Proxy was startled a bit by my shrieking response, but Smoke just continued tending to the girl.

"Are you ready?" The shell asked me while he wiped his Proxy's face with his right hand and passed me a clip for my gun with his left.

The path was clear enough, so I used my knees to steady the wheel while I checked the barrel and magazine of my weapon.

He was paying attention the entire time. An oblivious emptiness tending to the crouching girl was actually far from being distracted.

Knowing Smoke was aware the entire chase, despite his concentration and consciousness being elsewhere made, made me feel silly for banging my forehead intentionally and amateur for being the one of us that lost some type of focus.

When I jumped back into my battle readiness, I took the mag from Smoke and reloaded my weapon, "Let's fucking do this."

My declaration reactivated the robot that was originally Smoke as if that was what he waited for all along, dropping the rag and lifting his legs onto the beige leather in a squat once again all in one motion. I didn't even see when the B'Earth day boy scooped up his fire cracker when he hopped up on the seat.

I noticed in my rear view that the pick-up at the rear were speeding to ram us again, the three Reds standing in the truck bed held on to bars bolted to the roof. The Empty Smoke must have been reading my mind when he switched his gun to his right hand and wrapped his left in the top of the seat belt strap, gripping both parts of the nylon to hold himself in place.

"Hold on, Led." The robot said to his Fray Proxy in a calm tone.

The girl didn't hesitate upon command, bracing her hands on the front of the passenger seat for security.

When they wee secured, I hit the brakes as hard as possible and latched my professional swordsman grip onto the steering wheel.

!CRASH!

The back of my braking stallion smashed into the front of the crimson beast pursuing us with deadly determination. The Reds in the truck bed held on as best they could, the middle and left attacker stumbled around the back with their grip tight on the bars. The Red to their right fell from the pick-up, his crown looked like it exploded when he landed on the cement median. His blue jeans folded forward like a lawn chair and flipped the fucker's body over completely, leaving the contents of his head to drain out on the street.

Smoke and I bounced and rattled a bit from the impact, but his Proxy juggled around quite violently. The top of her head bumped into the bottom of the glove compartment, the little girl's right arm was forced back critically when she fell forward even harder. The collision caused more blood to pour from the wounds on her face, and I was almost positive that her dainty limb was either dislocated or broken.

Smoke's attention was on the pursuers, so he didn't notice his Proxy's list of injuries grow longer and worsen. The little girl saw that the robot wasn't aware of this and bit down so hard, she pierced the skin below her bottom lip.

This little girl is..... holding back her cries just to keep Smoke focused on the pursuers, and if I remembered correctly, he said she was only about eight or nine years of age.

Again, my determination was called into question.
