"Zza. Listen to me carefully," I whispered to her, my arms still latched around her tightly, "I absolutely have to protect you from all bad people, but I'm going to have to do it in a bad way. Even thru all of that, I am not a bad person. We met by the bang of a gun, so I'm sure you'll remember the loud explosions. Just do me one favor, Zza. Keep your eyes covered and your ears closed when the banging starts."
The sonic youth was shivering and shaking a little, but was doing a very good job at remaining calm.
Looking thru the passenger side rear view mirror, I saw one of the blood red beasts speeding up toward our sight.
"Get down, Led." I whispered one last command, loosening my arms from around her dainty body.
Zza climbed beneath the glove compartment, closing her wide eyes tight and covering her little ears.
"Got one on my left, coming in fast." Ou-Kai'e warned, pulling back and loading the barrel while steering with her knees.
I withdrew my Raffica from it's holster with my left hand, and grabbed a chrome Glock from the weapon cache with my right hand.
The sword wielding savage lowered both our windows simultaneously before giving me that look of killer instinct with her deep blue oculars.
"Shoot something."
That sent a powerful electric energy up my spine, and traveled in vibrations to my heart, head, hands, eyes and loins.
I stuck my shooting arm out first, resting my upper body on the extravagant french stallion's window panel for leverage. Shooting akimbo with my screaming Beretta and the chrome coated Glock, I fired directly into the crimson beast's grill. The metallic bars covering it topped with the Nigerian woman's evasive maneuvers made it difficult to hit the X accurately, the zero of my vision swaying with the speeding swerves. I let out a few rounds into the eyes of the beast, but as expected, the windshield was also customized with bulletproof glass.
The driver of the targeted truck hit the brakes hard while swerving left and right when the incendiary rounds of my beloved Raffica ignited on the windshield. I caught my balance between the swaying and withdrew back into the speeding Bugatti, having to reload both pistols. Ejecting both hollow magazines to the in front of the covering Zza, I rested the scorching pistol on my lap to load the Glock first. I pulled the chrome barrel back and loaded a bullet into the chamber, next tending to my screaming Beretta in mirroring fashion.
One of the pursuing trucks was able to catch up to our left since all three lanes were occupied, giving no proper room to maneuver with the Bugatti's speed and compact advantages. The enclosing pick-up's bed cover flew off into the busy street, I could see the massive vehicular pileup when the metal sheet went slicing thru a black Buick's windshield. The driver was beheaded at the mouth and the dead passenger was scalped clean before the S.U.V. swerved, crashed and rolled.
Out of the back of the crimson beast came two of The Red Throats wearing forest camouflage ski-masks with a pink deer on the forehead, a miniature AK-47 and an automatic shotgun as their weapons of choice, trained on our galloping stallion.
A "Draco" and a "Dragon."
Bulletproof or not, enough shots from either of those assault weapons could shave the metal from any vehicle.
They came prepared to kill, not to capture, looking for that million dollar head to bring back to their Grand Wizard for that bounty.
Repetitive roars came towards us in harmony from two monsters, the pink deer posing on their foreheads bounced as The Red Throats howled with the artillery they fired. Ou-Kai'e rolled the windows up quickly when the shot slammed against the car body, trying to protect us as much as possible until the next move could be made.
It was, however. futile. The driver side window shattered after only a few rounds, the lead continuing in a harmonious roar.
"AHHHH!" I heard Zza scream in absolute terror when the glass shattered about, covering her face when the shards went flying at her after... not before.
"Zza!" I yelled with primal concern, hoping for less than I am imagining since there was blood seeping thru the hand covering her left eye. "Are you alright?!" I asked in minor panic, bullets and beasts still flying at us with killing speeds.
The nine year old slowly moved her profusely shaking hands from he pretty face, the blood on her hand rained from the side of her forehead, cheek and neck. A small piece of her left ear was ripped off, the side of her neck was cut, and a shard is stuck at the side of her eye. It missed the inside of my Fray Proxy's indigo ocular by a stand of luck, but the falling plasma made it impossible to open.
I didn't blink.
I didn't breathe.
I didn't even hear or bother to acknowledge the reality around me.
I was only focused on the injured nine year old Led.
Everything went black.
