Chereads / Lady Claire: Alderidge Siblings / Chapter 3 - Chapter 2

Chapter 3 - Chapter 2

Loud sounds of swords clashing against each other can be heard echoing throughout the whole mansion of the Alderidge's along with several screams from the startled servants, and groans from the wounded knights.

"Where are they all coming from?" Clarence asks in a panic as everywhere their sight lands on to is filled with blood and traces of a fight that is yet close to being done.

"Eyes on the enemies, Clarence!" Claire roars with a dissatisfied look on her face after scolding her younger brother as he is being distracted by the great number of their enemies that are invading the mansion.

As Claire has been on a battlefront for so many years, fighting with her life on the line against thousands of enemies is not something new to her but for Clarence who grew up in the mansion, all of these are a nightmare for him.

"If you lose your sight on your enemy, you will lose your head in a while" she added and although it might sound harsh for other people who heard it, what Claire has said is true.

Even though they heard Claire scold Clarence for being distracted in the middle of a fight, both Clarissa and Clara who also have never experienced fighting in a war cannot help but feel overwhelmed with the continuous entry of their enemies.

More than three hundred of the infiltrator have already been killed by the knights and the masters of the house but they didn't see any of it affecting their enemies in any physical or psychological form as more cloaked men come out of the portal like mass production.

"Ice Spike!" Clarence, who finally comes back to his senses chants, and immediately, sharp and deadly spikes of ice appeared out of nowhere and took out at least a dozen of their enemies in a flash, making him smile.

'Why would you attack us if you are all this weak?'

The masters of the ducal house of Alderidge are all indeed very strong and talented despite their young ages, with the oldest being only twenty-five years old, but they still decided to take safety precautions as they see no sign of the number of enemies coming out of the portal stopping.

Clarence, who have a great amount of magic but has a problem when it comes to controlling it, was paired with Clara, a genius among all genius if it's about magic, to help him if his control suddenly comes in contact with a problem. After all, his magic surely won't hurt Clarence as he is its master but the same thing cannot be assured for all of the people around him, whether it is his enemies or allies.

Clarissa, who both cannot use magic and isn't a master swordsman, was paired with Claire, a girl who grew up on the battlefield, so she can protect her sister if something happens. Sure, Clarissa is a great woman that can use her sword very naturally but she just doesn't have the talent that Claire possesses when it comes to swordsmanship. With that, their formation is now complete as they continue to slaughter every cloaked person they see.

Because of the great amount of dark magic in the barrier, no spells can break through it, resulting in the sky that they are seeing become tainted with the bright color of red, reminding them of the blood that is being spilled everywhere. Blood of their faithful servants or blood of their enemies, they cannot differentiate between it anymore.

"Why am I so tired already?" Claire mumbles to herself, asking why she already felt so tired even though she swiftly severe the head of the cloaked person in front of her from its body.

Two days and two nights have already passed outside of the Alderidge's ducal estate but despite that, Claire and every people fighting inside of it don't have any clue about how long they are already trapped inside. All they could think of is how to kill every cloaked person that continues to invade their home so they could all go back in their bed and rest.

As the portal continuously produce their enemies, it doesn't seem to matter even if they continue killing every one of the infiltrators in front of them but unlike the cloaked people, the ducal household have no backup coming for them and the knights that are fighting alongside them for two days now are slowly reducing in numbers as they all died one by one.

The scent of rotting corpses and the rusty smell of blood pooling everywhere have already spread in the entire mansion and as of this moment, there is no place that isn't tainted with blood, but despite all of that, the four masters of the house still have their heads held high as they continue to do everything that they can just to kill all of the invaders in their home despite knowing that they are already in a state of problem where there is no going back.

If a normal person is gonna be left to be standing in the middle of the gruesome scene that is happening right now, they will surely puke their guts out, either in fear or because of disgust so some of the cloaked men cannot help but be afraid of the four people that are standing above all of the dead bodies so proudly.

The Alderidge siblings are losing this war but the cloaked people that are looking at them cannot help but wonder if they really are.

"They really are scary demons," one of them said before attacking Clara who has her back on him.

Feeling the pain after being stabbed, Clara involuntarily let out a loud gasp, attracting Clarence's attention who was standing a few steps away from her. Sensing that something is wrong, he immediately turns his head sideways to look at his elder siblings only to see his precious second sister bleeding from the sword buried in her abdomen.

Startled out of his wits, Clarence rush towards Clara to help her. As soon as he caught her just before she falls, he took her to a safe place in a rush and carefully took out the sword from her body so she could heal herself.

While that is happening in the background, Claire unmercifully crushes the cloaked person that stabbed her sister with just her sword until there is nothing left of him but a bunch of chopped limbs in the ground.

While walking towards her siblings, Claire mentally scolds herself. She knows better than to let emotion rule over her actions but for a moment, Claire saw red and before she knows it, the cloaked person in front of her has already been chopped.

"We cannot do anything else in this state" Clarissa calmly told her siblings after making sure that there is no one near them.

Hearing what she said, Clara, Claire, and Clarence cannot help but secretly agree with her. There are only seven knights left to fight with them and counting the four of them together, there are only eleven people against an army of more than a hundred.

If the enemies won't increase more in numbers then they could surely win but no matter how many cloaked persons they killed, the problem is that the portal is producing more of them. With that being the case, Claire and Clarissa could only envision one thing. Their death.

"I don't want to run but... I don't want to die either," Clarence said after making sure that Clara's wound is completely healed.

A moment of silence pass with the four of them just breathing, trying to rest as much as they can until Clarissa finally decided to break it.

"Let's send Claire back"

Confused because of her unclear statement, Claire looked at Clarissa with a curious look visible on her face.

'Send me back where?' Claire asked herself

Seeing her siblings' confuse and doubtful expressions, Clarissa continues to elaborate her plan to them. For a whole minute, Clarissa continues to carefully elaborate her plan to them and in exchange, the younger three listens to it with their entire focus solely on her.

There is no doubt that everyone that is left in the ducal mansion of the Alderidge's will die if they don't do anything yet just like their younger brother, Clarissa, Clara, and Claire didn't want to run away either. They already lost too much to simply run so the only way that Clarissa could think to return everything back to the way it used to be is to send Claire through time before everything happened to help them prepare for the attack.

"But, why me?"
