Chapter 1 - Wake Up Call

´´I don't really remember the fall, at least not in any real capacity, I just remember wind rushing by, a scream that tore through my ears and seemed to eat at my heart, this anxious feeling, like when you break out in a cold sweat but a million times worse.

That... and fear, a horrendous amount of fear, gripping at my heart like claws, like everything that made me who I am was being ripped from me, the things I love, the things I hate, everything.

´´...´´

´´Well, I didn't really expect you to talk, at least not really.´´

´´....´´

´´Oh come on, say something´´

´´....´´

´´Please...´´

'Crack!' the bottom of the skull broke and fell to the ground, almost as if mocking him.

´´... I don't want to be alone.´´

Silence was his only answer.

Looking around him, all he saw was jagged red rocks reaching into the sky surrounded by black sand, it was a wonder he hadn't got impaled on the way down, he was surrounded on all sides by the rocks, except underneath him, where the soft black sand seemed to have caught him.

´´Hah, suck it rocks, I'm invincible!´´ the rocks didn't answer.

He was in an awkward position, head lain against a small stone mound and his body curled up into a ball against the sand. His clothes hadn't torn from the fall, so he was still fully clothed in black combat boots, black cargo pants, and a black long sleeve shirt.

´´See Invincible, I knew military surplus stuff was a good buy! Cheap too.´´

Dragging himself to his feet he looked around to no real avail, seeing rock after rock like a jagged prison cell.

´´Heh, seems the only way is up then!´´ paying no further heed to his surroundings he began climbing the closest rock face, his boots finding easy purchase against the jagged stones. It took him a good two minutes to scale high enough to see over the cluster of rocks he was in, the red stone giving way to a vista of a beach of black sand with random groups of jagged red rock pointing to the clouded sky above, the sound of lapping waves diverting his attention towards and ocean on his right, black as the sand he woke up on, accented by the white surf that lapped against the shore.

´´... Is this Norway?´´

Clambering over the rocks below him, he made his way down the other side from where he climbed up, boots impacting upon the sand as he leapt the last two meters down, the dull ache in his hands from holding unto jagged stone making him seek relief as fast as possible.

´´No, this can't be Norway, waters too dark and the air smells rancid, almost like puke.´´ taking a steady pace towards the ocean he observed his surroundings, the same sand and stone setting seemed to span as far as he could see in all directions but the sea.

´´Sea's the only dammed landmark, I know for a fact there's no beach in the world that's this long and wide, not to mention I don't know one with waters as dark as this or with stone quite like this.´´

Walking to the edge of the water he stared out across it, rippling waves in odd patterns and a vanishing Horizon were all that he could see.

´´Well there's definitely fish in there, Big Fish.´´ crouching down slightly he touched it with the tip of his finger lightly, feeling only a cold sensation and an odd tingle in his fingertip.

´´Doesn't explain why it makes no dammed sound though, but hey The Silent Ocean is a cool name anyway.´´ Standing back up he took a dozen steps away from the ocean before beginning to trace in the sand with his boot, a line, a circle around it, and one short line above it.

´´Landmark and marker acquired, now to find a dammed road to walk and a bar to drink in.´´ stepping away from the marker he started walking in a direct line away from the ocean, stopping to trace a smaller version of the marker every dozen meters or so. ´´How. Big. Is. This. Beach.´´ after the 90th marker drawn he was beginning to grow annoyed, ´´The size of the Tide must be insane! Speaking of I better reach the end of the dammed beach before it comes in, there's no guarantee that those rocks will be higher the waves after all.´´

'Ooooooooammm'

´´What the blazes is that noise!?´´ quickly crouching down and spinning his head around in all directions he tried to locate the source of the noise.

'Ooooooooammm'

´´Shut up! Stupid noise goddammit my ears!´´ a powerful wind blew over him as he knelt in the sand, accompanied by even more noise.

'Ooooooammm'

´´Dammit, what is that!?´´ turning his head skyward he saw a shadow through the clouded sky, a strange image of massive wings and jutting spikes, its body looked akin to a snake, but it looked all wrong, a snake with wings and curved spikes that ran along its length. 'thip' 'thip' 'thip' a sound akin to rain followed the arrival of the shadow as it seemed to get even bigger against the clouds.

´´Shit.´´ quickly scrambling to one of the outcroppings of stone in an attempt to hide, he couldn't help but curse at the situation. 'thip' 'thip' 'thip' 'thip'

´´Is that red rain?´´ now tucked under the stone outcrop he looked out to see red liquid hitting the black sand around him, the shadow in the sky seeming even bigger than before, finally pushing down through the clouds only to reveal... bones, massive bones covered in black scales and red mush which he could only assume was flesh, those shadowed spikes from before were all bones the jutted out from the massive creature that was in the sky, which could only mean one thing

´´It's not rain, it's blood.´´

Staring in silence at the creature that seemed ever lower in the sky its blood began to fall like a heavy rainstorm, quickly forming pools in the sand running down the stones like streams.

´´It's not flying... it's falling.´´ staring out at the massive creature the turned the world red it was definitely falling, it had passed overhead and was now barely above the stone outcroppings now and only a few hundred meters away from him at most.

'Craack!' the creature slammed into the jagged stones that only served to tear into its remaining scales and flesh, even more, ripping it apart as it impacted upon the ground. A thunderous tremor rocking him off his feet as he watched it fall upon the black sands.

´´.... Where in the Hells am I?!´´
