In the modern world, many people uneducated in traditional instruments may think that the guqin and the guzheng were the same instrument based on the similar names - including the fact that both were string instruments. However, they were incredibly different.
The guqin gave off a pitiful and deep sounding song whereas a guzheng gave an excited and high sounding song. At the same time, the guqin only has seven strings. Compared to the guzheng which could range from 21 to 26 strings, the guqin had much less.
