Chapter 128 - The Amber Lightning

"Of course it is me, did you think I might lose?" Sydra asks, removing the amber shield from around his body. Although Sydra still looked the same for the most part, he now had an amber glow to his blue eyes. Sydra walked over to Edge, his body regenerating from the wounds he received in the fight against Shatter.

"That's good, and Shatter?" Edge asks, assuming Sydra's victory meant that they had merged.

"He and I have become one once more, so I plan to leave this place now," Sydra says, "What will you do now that the house is gone? Actually, how did you get in here in the first place?"

"I came from the crown you found in the plasma temple, which was forged from material around my burial site within the edge," Edge says, referring to the place beyond the explored boundaries of the six kingdoms.

"I see, so the moment I placed that crown on my head, you appeared somewhere inside it?" Sydra asks, "But that doesn't answer my question about what you plan to do now,"

Before Edge can answer, cracks begin forming in the ground around them, and pieces fall away. Finding himself in the middle of several cracks, Edge smiles sadly at Sydra, "It looks like I will be passing on to the other side, but at least I won't feel any more regret,"

"Since I am going, let me give you a bit of advice, Sydra Glass," Edge says, "The True Edge is nearing, and it won't be long until you are called upon to fight back against it. If you wish to know more about the True Edge, then you should seek out Markuis Hawk, who lives atop the Dragon's Spine within the Edge,"

"Wait, how do I find him?" Sydra calls out, but the ground beneath Edge has already broken, sending him to the next life. Gritting his teeth, Sydra knew it was better this way and searched for a way out of the Space Between.

A flash of light high above Sydra caused him to glance up, where he found a small portal forming. The light seeping through the portal was too bright for Sydra to see what was on the other side, but no matter what it was, it had to be better than what he was dealing with at the moment.

"Only one way to find out what awaits me on the other side," Sydra says, bending his knees till he was almost sitting on the ground. Activating the amber lightning in his body, Sydra leapt off the ground, his body piercing through the air like an arrow fired from a bow.

Passing through the portal, Sydra created two amber spheres, ready to throw them at anything hostile. Instead, he found himself back in his body, with everyone staring at him like he was crazy.

"Hey, Sydra? What are you doing there, buddy?" Jason asks, holding a plate of eggs in his hands, "Do you not like Cho's cooking or something?"

Realizing he still had the amber spheres above his hands, Sydra quickly dispelled the aura, straightening his outfit afterwards. Sitting at the table in the room was Lucas and Kayla, as well as Indra, Jason, and Cho, and they all had plates of food in front of them.

"If you don't like my cooking, then you won't need this plate of food," Cho says as everyone's eye turn hungrily to a sixth plate on the table. Feeling his stomach rumble, Sydra hurried over to sit down before anyone could take his food.

"I never said I didn't like your food," Sydra says hurriedly as he grabs a fork full of eggs, "I was just having a bad dream, is all,"

Shoveling the food down his throat, Sydra managed to finish his food quicker than anyone else and spent the rest of the time taking a shower. Once done with his shower, Sydra left Lucas and Kayla to search for more information while he went back for his second day of training.

"Now that everyone has arrived, I want you all to go back to what you were doing yesterday," Captain Zeis says, sending everyone off on their own while he turned to Sydra, who had remained behind, "What is it?"

"I just wanted to let you know that I managed to finish combining the Divinity and Vortex Lightning together," Sydra says, creating a spear of Amber Lightning for Captain Zeis to see.

Pulling back his hand, Sydra whips the spear across the courtyard, nailing seventeen straw golems in their chest before continuing forward. The sheer speed of the spear caused space to ripple, and when it finally hit the reinforced wall surrounding the courtyard, it exploded with enough force to knock everyone off their feet.

'What... was that just now?' Captain Zeis wonders as he picks himself up from the ground. When the smoke finally clears, everyone's mouth drops open at the sight of a massive crater in the reinforced wall.

"Even Captain Zeis can only scratch that wall, and this guy just took a large chunk out of it," one of the guards training says, his voice filled with awe and fear. Hearing the guard speak, everyone else turns to look at Sydra, whose body is surrounded by ripples in space.

With the guards whispering to one another, Captain Zeis grabs Sydra's arm and drags him off the courtyard. Entering a door that led to the barracks of the royal guards, Captain Zeis led Sydra into a room devoid of everything except a crystal orb in the center.

"This ball is used to discover the attributes behind someone's lightning," Captain Zeis says, placing his own hand on the crystal orb. As he released a bit of his aura, the ball lit up with a white color, "This is my lightning, which has the ability to nullify the flow of others aura,"

Removing his hand from the orb, Captain Zeis motioned for Sydra to do the same as he had done. But when Sydra places his hand on the orb, it doesn't light up, and there are no other changes either.

"That's odd, are you're sure you're releasing the right aura?" Captain Zeis says, causing Sydra to increase the aura he is releasing. With more aura flowing through the room, Captain Zeis feels his body becoming heavier as if an Elephailt was sitting on him.

Elephailts were armored beasts that resembled a hybrid mix between Komodo dragons, and elephants, and their backs were covered in stone plates. The Elephailts usually wandered the jungles of the Arkendol, the continent opposite of Alstopia, which was where Sydra was currently.

"Stop, it's obvious something is wrong with the Detector," Captain Zeis says, feeling the weight on his shoulders fade away, "I guess we'll have to do this another way then,"

Leaving the room, Captain Zeis brought Sydra back out to the courtyard, where he had him perform a few moves. Over the next few minutes, Sydra created several different weapons with the Amber Lightning, as well as using it for enhancement and defense.

"Now I want you to create something unique with your power, like what Jason did yesterday with the Green Vortex," Captain Zeis says, stepping back from Sydra to give him room to think.

'Something unique? I guess I can't just create a suit of armor or something like that,' Sydra thinks, different ideas of what he might do running through his head. Among the countless different ideas, there was one that stood out to Sydra, and he decided to go with that one.

'A portal? Is he attempting to do something similar to Jason?' Captain Zeis thinks, slightly disappointed when an Amber Portal appears above one of the straw golems. However, Captain Zeis is surprised when chains snake out of the portal, wrapping themselves around the straw golem, before dragging it into the portal.

By now, everyone has made their way over to watch the show, but their attention is quickly pulled away by the arrival of a Royal Carriage. As everyone gets down on one knee, a girl with yellow wings steps out of the carriage, followed by two guards.

'Rachel? I forgot she was the King's niece,' Sydra thinks, watching as Rachel spots the crater while making her way over to Captain Zeis.

"Captain Zeis, my uncle heard a commotion coming from over here and sent me to discover what caused it," Rachel says, "So... What caused it?"

"I'm sorry for the commotion, Lady Rachel," Captain Zeis says, bowing his head, "It was one of the students I was training showing off their power,"

"A student... from the academy?" Rachel asks, glancing at the crater in disbelief, "They were able to do something that even you can't do? I wish to meet this impressive student of yours,"

'Crap, what do I do? My brother told me that Sydra isn't really a part of the academy, and the only reason I'm training him is because of his abilities,' Captain Zeis thinks, worrying about the fact that this could be considered treason, as he was basically training an outsider the Royal Guard's training method.

"Well, what's taking you so long to bring me the student you spoke of?" Rachel asks, turning to scan the faces of the guards for herself. As her eyes scan the crowd, they pass over Sydra for a second, before continuing onward.

'Wait... wasn't that...' Rachel's eyes shoot back to Sydra, only to find him smiling at her from within the group of guards, "Sydra?"
