Seeing Sydra and the others freeze, a malicious smile forms on Corbel's face as he motions for the pirate to bring Madeline over. Taking her from the pirate, Corbel grabs her face and turns it back and forth, "So, who might this young lady be to you?" He asks, glancing up to see everyone's reactions.
Barely containing bus anger, Sydra takes a step forward "If you hurt her, I swear...," he starts to say, but Corbel grabs Madeline by the throat and lifts her into the air before he can any farther.
"You'll what?" He asks, watching as Sydra stops moving again, his gaze fully focused on Madeline, "That's what I thought, you won't do anything as long as her life is at danger," Corbel says, tossing Madeline to the feet of the pirate.
"What should I do, Captain?" The pirate asks, putting his dagger back against Madeline's throat. Sighing, Corbel walks up to the pirate and grabs his shoulder, pointing towards Sydra and the others.
"You see those people, Davey?" He asks, waiting for the pirate to nod, "Good, if they move even an inch, I want you to kill the girl," Corbel says, patting Davey on the shoulder before walking away.
As Corbel goes back to harvesting the bone marrow of the other pirates, Davey squats down behind Madeline and watches everyone closely. Unable to communicate with the others due to the distance they stopped from one another, Sydra is forced to watch as Corbel uses Madeline as a hostage to finish restoring himself.
His eyes darting back and forth between Corbel and Davey, Sydra begins to wonder how Madeline was captured. 'Was she caught outside when the pirates showed up, or did they go after her directly?' He thinks, looking towards the part of the beach the pirate had appeared from.
The area was in the opposite direction of the lighthouse, so it was unlikely they went after Madeline on purpose. Looking past the area, Sydra notices that the mountain where the Chaos Swan is nesting is a direct line from there. 'Does this mean the pirate collected the Rainbow Egg, and came across Madeline on the way back?'
Not knowing anything for certain, sweat dripped doesn't Sydra's face as different scenarios swirled through his mind. By now, Corbel had finished up absorbing the bone marrow, and was making his way back across the beach.
"Ah, that feels much better," Corbel says, patting Sydra on the shoulder as he walks by. "You're actually the first person to make me have to use so much of my power, you should be proud of that,"
Stopping next to Davey, Corbel bends down and looks closely at Madeline's face, "You know, you really remind me of someone, but I just can't remember who,".
Standing back up, Corbel motions for Davey to let Madeline go, allowing her to slowly make her way across the beach to Sydra. After a few steps, and nothing happening, Madeline's pace picks up, and she starts running through the sand. With the distance between them getting shorter by the second, a sense of relief comes over Sydra, who raises his arms to Madeline.
'Only a few more meters, and she'll be safe,' he thinks, watching a smile forms on Madeline's face, right before a blade of water pierces through her chest. Staggering from the blow, Madeline stumbles into Sydra's arms, peering down as blood pours out of the wound in her stomach.
"What... What's happening?" She asks, looking up at Sydra's blank face, tears slowly forming in her eyes, "Am... Am I going to die?"
Watching Madeline's face becoming paler by the second, Sydra snaps out of his confusion and rips off his cloak, pressing it against the wound. "No, of course not," he says, before trying to activate his healing aura, but it was all used up in the fight earlier.
Turning to look at the others, Sydra sees that they are in shock at the sudden attack from Corbel. 'Dang it, none of them have healing powers anyway,' Sydra thinks, feeling Madeline's blood soak through his cloak.
Taking a step forward, mock surprise fills Corbel's face, "Oh, I remember who you remind me of now," he says, his eyes glinting as Madeline coughs, "There was once this wench I killed seven years ago, that's who you remind me of,"
Hearing Corbel speak ill of her mother, Madeline gathers the strength to face Corbel, her eyes shining with determination, "My mother wasn't a wench, and my death will not be my end," she says, a smile forming on her lips as her body goes limp.
Running his hand over her eyes, Sydra closes Madeline's eyes before gently putting her on the ground. Getting up, he feels the despair inside his body from not being able to save Madeline, turn into pure and utter hatred for the one who killed her.
Turning his gaze to Corbel, Sydra feels something inside his chest snap, and a dark mist starts to seep from his palms. As he takes a step forward, the mist around his body starts to churn and the rage welling up in his chest goes beyond what he can handle.
"You... will die today," Sydra says, as his eyes become pitch black, and a black crown forms on his head. Sweeping his hand through the air, Sydra releases black orbs of condensed lightning into the air.
Scoffing at the orbs, Corbel grabs Davey and places him in front of himself, "If those orbs could really kill me, then why not use them earlier?" He asks, shoving Davey forward.
Stumbling, Davey looks back at Corbel with sweat dripping heavily off his body, "Captain? You don't want me to fight him, do you?" he begs, his knees shaking as he glances at the black orbs hanging in the air around Sydra.
"I can always bring you back if you die, so what are you worried about?" Corbel asks, kicking Davey in the back to propel him forward.
Launched through the air, Davey lands with his face a few inches away from one of the orbs. Watching it carefully, he picks himself up and shakily pulls out his dagger, pointing it towards Sydra. Gaining courage from the fact that Sydra hasn't made a move yet, Davey stabs his dagger forward through a small opening he sees in the orbs.
'Pop,' the sound of one of the orbs popping right next to Davey's face startels him, and he slowly turns to look at it. "Oh cra..."
Before he can finish his sentence, Davey's entire body turns to ash, black lightning crackling above his remains. Glancing blankly at the ash, Sydra steps overt it and approaches Corbel, each step leaving the sand scorched black.
"Wait!" Corbel yells, falling backward as he tries to get away from Sydra, "Let's talk about this, maybe I could still save her," he says, causing Sydra to pause for a second.
Glancing back, Sydra looks at Madeline's body laying on the sand, a tear leaving his black eyes. "No, her soul has left this world," he says, turning back to Corbel, "But your soul shall never know peace,"
Flashing forward in a shadowy blur, Sydra grabs Corbel by the neck and slams him into the ground. As Corbel struggles to get away, Sydra points his finger towards each of his limbs, shattering them with a bolt of lightning.
"Ahh!" Corbel howls as his bones disintegrate, sending shivers down Robert's and the other's spines. Approaching Sydra, Robert reaches out his hand to pull him away before he does anything more. "Sydra, don't do..." He starts to say, but he is thrown back by the black mist swirling around Sydra's body, his arm turning to ash in the process.
Not even glancing at Robert, Sydra places his palm against Corbel's skull and directs the black mist through it. As the mist pours into Corbel's skull, he begins to thrash against the ground, before becoming limp as his eyes dim. Shaking his head, Sydra stands up and points towards the sky, summoning clouds that cover the entire island, leaving no room for light to get in.
"Now, you shall fully understand what your sins have gained you," Sydra mumbles, but his voice is drowned out by a column of lightning cascading into Corbel's body.
The lightning continues for several minutes, and by the time it disperses there is nothing left of the beach where Sydra was standing. Instead, there is a massive void filled with spikes pointing in all directions, and flickering with the remnants of the black lightning. Picking themselves up, the group makes their way into the void, searching for Sydra's body.
"You don't think that killed him, do you?" Cidre asks, his feet crunching across the ground as he peers past a dark spike.
Glancing down at his missing arm, worry fills Robert as he imagines Sydra going through the same thing. "I'm... Not sure," he says, "But I doubt it,"
"Guys, over here! I found him," Erich yells, crouching down as he uncovers Sydra's face that was covered by a layer of black ash. Palcing his hand on Sydra's chest, Erich checks for a heartbeat, only to find out that it is lacking one.
