Chapter 90 - The Abyss Cannon

With the beast gone, Sydra folds his wings and lands on the ground. Picking up one of the frozen shards of the blue pearl, Sydra looks around for the twins.

'Did they escape while we were fighting the beast, or were they killed as well?' Sydra wonders, tossing the pearl shard into his Arbor Sanctum and picking up another one. As Sydra was walking around, the other fliers returned to the ground and began to regroup with the others.

Making her way through the battlefield, Lorey approaches Sydra to discuss what to do next. Seeing him pick up the shards, Lorey picks up a few and hands them to him.

"Sydra, we need to figure out what we should do next, now that the beast is dead," Lorey says, watching Sydra send the pearl shards into his Arbor Sanctum. Once they were all gone, Sydra turns to look around the battlefield, where people are helping the injured get to the make-shift medical center.

"The first thing should be cleaning this place up, and choosing a new leader for the explorers," Sydra says, causing Lorey to flinch as she remembers her father's death. Glancing behind her, Lorey looks at the place where her father's tent had been, only for its tattered remains to be left.

"I know, but until we get someone to fill that position we will just have to all work together," Lorey says before pointing towards the healers, "By the way, your friend is over there, he got a bit damaged by an explosion,"

"Thanks for letting me know. I could probably help out with the people who need to be healed," Sydra says, making his way over to the injured. Most people only had small injuries, such as a light sprain or a few scratches, but there were a few people who had been hit by a stray attack or had a limb crushed by falling debris.

Walking to the center of everyone, Sydra sits down on the ground and activates his healing aura. Spreading the aura around him, a green dome begins to spread from Sydra and cover the people around him. Anyone with an injury that was underneath the green dome began to feel warm energy enter their bodies, giving them a sense of calm. Looking down, they saw their wounds healing as green lightning spread over their bodies.

"What is this?" One of the healers asks, watching as the person she was healing gets up from the ground and walks around. The person had both of their legs crushed underneath the foot of the beast, and the healer wasn't sure they would ever be able to use them again.

After healing everyone, Sydra gets up and makes his way over to Robert, who is resting against a sandstone wall. Cidre is sitting beside him, telling him about the ariel battle, and how he was the reason they beat the beast.

"You've looked better," Sydra says, sitting down next to Robert and extending his hand. Releasing his healing aura, Sydra looks around for Erich. "Do you guys know if Erich came back?"

"No, we didn't see him back at the living area, so it's possible he is still with his group," Cidre says, "I think I saw his group head into that two-story building over there,"

Finishing healing Robert, Sydra gets up and looks at the building Cidre is talking about. The building is one of the few ones not badly damaged by the fight, but it is still missing half of the roof.

"Come on, we should go find him and return to the surface," Sydra says, helping Robert to his feet.

Walking over to the building, Sydra looks inside the bottom room, which has rubble from the ceiling strewn about it. Passing by the rubble, the three of them find a set of stairs that leads down to the basement below.

"Hold on, I light my lantern," Robert says, turning on his lantern and shining the light down the stairs. Going down the stairs, the group soon finds their path blocked by a piece of sandstone that had fallen off the ceiling.

"Great, our path is blocked, and this piece will take forever to break," Cidre says, knocking against the sandstone with his knuckles. Stepping in front of Cidre, Sydra places his hand against the sandstone and sends it into his Arbor Sanctum.

"There, now our path is clear," Sydra says, looking down the stairs only to see Erich standing there with his fist raised in the air, surrounded by smaller chunks of sandstone.

"Well that was a waste of time," Erich says, dropping his hand and turning around. "Hey, the path is clear," he yells down the stairs.

A few moments later a group of people walk up the stairs and look at the opened path.

"Where did the giant stone go?" One of them asks, noticing the absence of sandstone chunks on the ground.

"Sydra took care of it, now we can leave this place," Erich says, turning around and following Sydra back up the stairs. Once the group has made their way outside, they become shocked by the sight of the desolate battlefield. After explaining what happened, Sydra heads over to find Lorey and ask her about returning to the island.

"You want to return?" Lorey asks, looking at the four men, "That should be simple enough, there is a ship coming down here right now. You guys can just hop on it before it heads back,"

"Great," Sydra says as he turns to look at the water tunnel they had come in from. "Oh right, I almost forgot to give you and Haley your portion of the findings," Sydra says, holding out his hand and summoning multiple glass cases out from his Arbor Sanctum.

"Please give Haley her share when you see her," Sydra says, before heading over in the direction of the water tunnel. After the ship stops and unloads the supplies and people, Sydra and the others hop on and head back up to the island.

"Do you think the cannon is done?" Erich asks, "I mean, it has been a few days,"

"Wait, a few days?" Sydra asks, thinking back to the time he spent in the city. 'Did it really take that long to search the underground city? It didn't feel like it,'.

"Yeah, didn't your group tell you about how time in the temple went slower than time outside? No one knows why though," Robert says, looking at Sydra in confusion.

"No, I wasn't aware of that," Sydra says as the ship leaves the water tunnel and stops at the harbor. Leaving the ship, the group heads over to the blacksmith section of the island. Upon reaching Gail's forge, the group is forced to slow down from the crowd of people standing outside.

"What is going on here, it's busier than a couple of days ago," Sydra says, making his way through the crowd to the front door. Standing at the door are two large men in matching red armor, blocking the crowd from entering the forge.

"Halt, Master Gail is busy finishing a project from the Savior of the Island," One of the men says, swinging the spear in his hand in front of Sydra's face.

"Well, can you tell Gail that Sydra is here, I'm sure he will want to see me," Sydra says, calmly looking at the spear waving in his face. Hearing his name, the two guards jump, and the one with his spear out quickly pulls it back before bowing.

"Sorry, we did not know it was you, Sir Saviour. We will let Master Gail know of your arrival," The other guard says as he opens the door of the forge and runs inside. A few seconds later, the guard reappears with Gail at his side.

"Sydra! I was just about to go find you," Gail says, grabbing Sydra's arm and pulling him into the forge before telling the guards to go back to work. Shutting the door behind him, Gail leads Sydra into a new room that has been added to the forge.

"How come this place is even busier than before?" Sydra asks, noticing that there are even more rooms and blacksmiths working in the forge than last time.

"When word got out that I was doing a job for you, and it included the Abyss Ember, a lot of people started showing up, either asking to work for me or have me do jobs for them," Gail says as he walks over to blanket that is covering a bulky item. "Are you ready to see your finished project?" he asks.

Before Sydra can answer, Gail pulls the blanket off of the bulky item, showing a glorious cannon underneath. The cannon is deep green, with glowing blue lines running over the three muzzles. As Sydra admires the cannon, Gail does different poses around it, acting like a showgirl.

"This is very impressive, I must say, you have outdone yourself this time," Sydra says, walking up to the cannon and running his hand across the cold metal.

"Thanks, I'm just disappointed I had no material left over to make you the daggers you wanted," Gail says, causing Sydra to stop running his hand across the metal and look at Gail in surprise.
