Chapter 82 - Darkshell Rune Armor

Seeing the box open, Sydra quickly pulls Lorey back inside the room and closes the bronze door so there is only a crack left. Peering through the crack in the door, the two of them watch as the glass door on the black box finishes opening.

"Crap! Why is the box opening?!" Lorey fearfully mutters as she and Sydra watch the box closely. After the a few seconds of nothing happening, Sydra slowly opens the door and steps out, motioning for Lorey to stay back.

Sneaking across the room, Sydra approaches the box from a distance in case the Kantoko inside was to suddenly lunge out. After getting far enough that he can see inside the box, Sydra stops and looks at the large Kantoko inside.

'It's not moving, and there doesn't seem to be any life emitting from it,' Sydra thinks, continuing to stand a small distance away. Glancing around the room, Sydra notices that the wires connected to the black boxes around the room are slowly detaching from the one in the center. 'Now what is happening?'

After all the wires have disconnected from the black box in the center, they slowly retract into the boxes they come from, before disappearing inside them. Watching the lack boxes, Sydra is surprised when the metal walls around the room open up, and the boxes slide into them. The metal wall then closes back up, and the only thing left in the room is the large black box the Kantoko is inside.

"Is it safe?" Lorey asks, startling Sydra, who didn't notice her cross the room towards him. After glaring at her for a second, Sydra turns his attention back to the Kantoko, which is still not moving from its position.

"I'm not sure, but I'm going to send a spider over to check it out," Sydra says as he creates a spider as tall as his knee and commands it to crawl over to the Kantoko. While the spiders is making its way over, Sydra and Lorey prepare themselves for a possible fight. 'Will my daggers even be able to pierce its tough shell?' Sydra wonders as he thinks back to how his daggers had done nothing to the turtle earlier.

Making its way across the room, the spider begins to crawl up the Kantoko's leg, and head towards its head. Upon reaching the chest area, the spider freezes for a second, before disappearing into the chest.

"Where did your spider go?" Lorey asks as she and Sydra stare blankly at the last spot they had seen the spider.

"I'm not sure, but I can still feel its presence coming from the Kantoko. Hold on, let me figure out what's going on," Sydra says as he pulls out his spyglass and points it towards the Kantoko. Peering past the dark shell, Sydra sees the spider making its way up to the head from the inside of the Kantoko. "I think the Kantoko is empty,"

'What does that mean, and how were you able to figure that out with a spyglass?" Lorey asks as she looks at the spyglass in confusion.

"The spyglass has runes inscribed on it that allow me to see past obstacles, and by perceiving the shell of the Kantoko as an obstacle, the spyglass allowed me to look past it," Sydra says as he puts the spyglass away and begins walking over to the black box.

Stopping in front of the Kantoko, Sydra looks up at the chest that is several meters above him. Sighing, Sydra grows his wings and flies up and places his hand against the Kantoko's chest, in the same spot the spider had disappeared. When his palm touches the Kantoko, Sydra's surrounding go dark, and he feels as though he is standing on top of a platform.

"Sydra? Where did you go?" Lorey asks, her voice being muffled by the material surrounding Sydra.

"I'm not sure, but I think I'm inside the Kantoko," Sydra says as he lifts his hands to feel around his surroundings. As his hand reaches the chest height his surroundings light up, and Sydra is able to see his surroundings. In front of Sydra is a smaller version of the Kantoko, and its open back is facing Sydra.

Seeing that the smaller version of the Kantoko is only a little bit taller than he is, Sydra steps inside it like it's a suit, feeling the back close up behind him. As the suit finishes closing behind him, Sydra feels something pierce him in the back of the neck, causing a slight bit of pain. Before Sydra can wonder what poked his neck, an image of the surroundings outside of the nine-meter-tall Kantoko appear.

"Hey, the Kantoko's mask just lit up, did you do that?" Lorey asks as Sydra moves his eyes down and sees Lorey backing away slowly.

"Yeah, it seems that I am now connected to the suit, and I can move it like my own body," Sydra says as he concentrates on moving his arm and the arm of the Kantoko moves instead. Taking a few steps forward, Sydra leaves the black box and begins maneuvering around the room.

"It looks like your having trouble moving the armor," Lorey says as Sydra stumbles, before quickly catching himself.

"It is a little bit hard, and this isn't my type of thing," Sydra says as he stops the armor and tries to figure a way out. 'I was able to great in by touching the chest of the armor, so maybe that is how I get out as well,' Sydra thinks as he raises the hand of the armor to the chest and presses against it.

'Click,' The sound of the armor opening resonates around the room as Sydra appears back on the ground once more. "At least it is easy to get in and out,"

"So what are you going to do with it?" Lorey asks as she walks around the Darkshell Kantoko, studying the interesting design.

"At the moment I'll put it inside my Arbor Sanctum, but I'm not sure what I will do with it later," Sydra says as he sends the armor away. "Honestly, I don't think I'll ever use it for battle, so if you want it then let me know,"

"Okay, I'll take it," Lorey says quickly as she watches Sydra walk over to one of the metal walls and start tapping on it, "Are you trying to figure a way through it?"

"Yeah, but I think I'll just have to melt it down," Sydra says as he places his hand against the metal and activates his fire aura. Raising the temperature to an extreme degree, Sydra begins to slowly melt the wall and reveal the hidden room on the other side.

"Looks like we figured out where all the tubes were going," Sydra says as he lowers his hand and walks through the man-sized hole. On the other side are multiple tubes running back and forth, with glass containers of the blood being sent through them every few seconds.

"I'm curious where they're getting all that blood from in the first place. I mean it would take a lot of humans dying to create as much blood as they have, but I don't think that is what is happening," Lorey says as Sydra ducks underneath some of the tubes and goes farther into the room.

"Only on way to find out, and that is to keep searching," Sydra says as he leaves the tube section and stops in front of several glass windows. "And it looks like I just figured it out,"

Looking through the clear window, Sydra sees multiple cages with hundreds of creatures locked away behind them. Following the windows down, he comes across another door that leads into the room with the cages.

"It doesn't need a key, so it should just open right?" Lorey asks as she appears beside Sydra and looks at the door.

"True, but the fact that those creatures are still alive means someone is taking care of them. We should be careful," Sydra says as he slowly opens the door and peers around the room on the other side. As the doors open several of the creatures in the cage turn their heads to look in that direction fearfully.

"Seems that whoever is takin g care of them is not doing a very good job," Lorey says as she points into the disgusting cages. Although the creatures are looking in their direction, their bodies are covered in so much waste that they can't see clearly.

Nodding his head, Sydra approaches one of the cages and looks at the pitiful creature on the other side. 'All of these creatures are either on the verge of death, or have already died, and it doesn't look like anyone really cares,' Sydra thinks as he looks at a few of the cages that have rotting corpses inside them. Walking down the aisle, Sydra feels an intense rage building in his chest for the misuse of the creatures.

"Hey, Sydra, you need to see this," Lorey says as she stops in front of one of the cages, anger filling her face.
