Casper was having that strange experience again. The colors mixing, deforming shapes, confusion, strange shades and lights… For some seconds all of it remained, then Casper appeared somewhere near the Third Lab.
He probably spelled the coordinates wrongly, because he was a bit far away from where he was supposed to appear at first, and he got teleported in the middle air, falling upright, but then needing to kneel since his left foot was still killing him.
"Godness… I hope this didn't stay for too long. I can't pretend forever in front of the Princess that I have nothing wrong with me, and I know I will need to become an actor for some time…" That injury was a bother and a huge one.
Actually, all those warriors and events happening all at once were not in the plans of the soldier. He knew that Vick would make things difficult for him, but he did not expect this much. It looked like she put a lot of weight on Casper's actions.
"The issue is: was Vick trying to stop me just for precaution or because she knows that I will try to find all the truth? If it's the first, I can brush it off, I guess. But, if it's the second, then I should be worrying about this thing even more. I mean, to have this much of counter measurements and people seeking me…"
Casper preferred to not remember what happened before, back in Uppsala.
In the end, he could see that light after the tragedy with the Flying Drakkar. After this, he just needed to run even more until reaching the Teleporting pad.
That city had fewer Teleporting pads, probably due to the use of vehicles. That could be why they concentrated that much of Teleporting pads one next to the other, instead of spreading it on the city, as the other ones did.
However, it was not time to think much about it. He just prayed that the Ridire warriors chasing him took a very long time to find him. After all, Casper was not the only one to use that Teleporting pad. After him, a lot of other people used it as well. The registers would be filled and it could be more difficult to find him again.
Now that Casper finally could pull through that situation and now was facing the Third Lab, he could barely bear his will to commemorate and feel accomplished.
"If you are going to feel like this even before the real plan starts, you will be a dead man, Casper…"
Casper sat on the ground, hidden by artificial big brushes. He took a piece of cloth from inside his bag, then attached it tightly to his ankle, making it stiff and firm. He could not afford that an ankle was the cause of his failure there.
It hurt like hell, but he endured. He stomped on the ground some times with his left foot, and still felt a lot of pain, but his ankle was not faltering anymore.
After some more time away from the construction, Casper felt that it was time, since nobody came, and started to sneak to approach the laboratory.
The Third Lab was a round building. It had just 3 meters in height and its radio was about 4 meters. One could say that it was very, very small for a laboratory, but the Third Lab was just smaller than the Main Lab.
"If someone looks at it from the outside, will find it to be very small, however, differently of the others, the Third Lab's complex isn't made on the surface, but in the underground."
Casper circled the construction walking several meters away from it, and then positioned in front of a bunch of power cable generators and panels. They were positioned 30 meters away from the laboratory, and very well hidden, in a room made also underground. It was very stuffy and even had rats there, which was a surprise since this type of animal was not common inside the Castle's domains, no matter the floor.
It was guarded as well, but the guard slacked mostly of the time and was always a bit drunk. Apparently, that local had nothing to be guarded against because the Castle was very peaceful and no one was sufficiently crazy to go against the military.
That is, no one that was from that world. Casper was a different matter.
He picked some tools he had brought with him, making his way to open the panels and cut the right cables.
Some weeks ago, while he was still thinking about the plan, Casper thought that deactivate all the energy systems of the laboratory would be a good thing. It would be easier to enter and pass through everything. And if he made sure to destroy the power generators, the energy would delay coming back for maybe a whole night, before they mobilized to fix it.
However, Casper concluded that the more stealth he could be, the better. If he could enter without anyone noticing, and then leaving the same way, doing everything he needed to inside there, it would be two times as good as the first plan.
Because of it, he would just mess with it enough to make the entrance security system fail, the doors open, and the alarms and cameras turn off. Maybe the entire first floor got without energy if he did something wrong, but nobody stayed there as long as he knew, so it was still fine.
This way, Casper manipulated the Energy system, being as careful as possible. In no time, he could finish it, and even from far away, he could hear the sound of the entrance door opening.
He could not rely on that plan, though. If someone found him, it would be very troublesome.
Because of it, he planted small explosives inside those things. If something went wrong inside there, he would just press a button and deactivate everything to be able to escape.
Casper knew the amount of danger that that situation had. He was messing with the second most powerful organization of the district. He was putting everything into that gamble.
However, Casper had discovered something important during the last month that had him keeping an eye on that organization.
He had a grasp that those masks were not just for show. They did something. And in a world so advanced like that, most likely they had something technological involved.
However, who produced those masks? Who invented them? What they did exactly?
Casper could try to blame the Main Lab, but he passed various days along, searching the blueprints, archives, data… But nothing.
The Second and Fourth Lab did have nothing to do with this type of thing, which lead to the Third…
Casper could not grab any more information from the Jarls, but he could do it with the military, that probably knew as much as them, maybe even more.
If the masks were what Casper was thinking they were, then it was not a crazy guess to associate them with the military.
There were many things that the soldier could just guess, and he was not willing to keep like this for longer. One month working blindly was enough.
Casper stood up and tip-toed until arrive in the building again.
It looked like the first floor had lost electric energy in the right spots, so it was not off powered completely.
"Great, that's awesome… Everything is going well until now…"
Casper entered the first floor. It was a round room, of course, and had nothing much more than two metallic doors in the end.
He was sure that there would be many security protocols and measurements in the way to those doors, but as the security system was turned off, there was no harm to Casper around there.
He walked silently towards those doors, having an idea of what they exactly were. Casper put his ears next to the door and heard attentively.
"No one seems to be using it yet. I need to be quick here."
He started to grab some items from his bag. More precisely, the green coat, the fake mask, the exoskeleton, and the credential.
Now that he would not need that bag anymore he just threw it outside the laboratory as far as he could and then went back to the elevator doors.
It was not showing signals of operation, so probably no one would spot Casper changing clothes.
He put the Third Lab coat over the black clothes he was already wearing. That green coat had a hood, which was not something uncommon for the other scientists to wear, so Casper could hide his hair.
Casper also had worn the exoskeleton he brought with him, which was for his legs. With that thing, he felt his movements way stronger, and it was easier to walk with that injured ankle now.
He pressed a button that was next to the door and waited for it to open.
It took some time but happened, and he entered the elevator.
He was sweating a lot, and it was not because of the number of clothes he was wearing.
Casper had made some missions where he needed to act as a spy or infiltrate large complexes, but that was something that experience could not just make you get used to.
The time he passed into the elevator seemed to last for hours. He knew that the laboratory complex stayed good meters underground, but it was just crazy for how long it lasted.
The elevator suddenly stopped, without making any noise.
He got out from the elevator expecting to see maybe a corridor or two on the start. But he was surprised to be entirely wrong at it.
The laboratory started with a huge spherical white room.
At least twenty corridors were connected to there. A lot of scientists and warriors were walking back and forth on those corridors, with sheets, papers, blueprints, and even big machines and weapons. Some carried strange solutions and other suspect liquids.
Casper walked forth to the middle of that fuss but got stopped by two people.
"Your credential, please."
Casper gave a step backward. He was in a difficult situation… as per usual.
