Chereads / District 42 / Chapter 75 - More ruckus

Chapter 75 - More ruckus

When Casper faced that dead-end in front of him, his mind nearly froze for a second. However, he could not afford himself to fail there. Every second that he lost panicking instead of reasoning was one step closer to his death.

Casper did not stop to move. Instead, he ran even faster towards that wall. The Barbarian was still closing the distance even more, like a crazy bull. Nonetheless, if Casper could maintain the rhythm, that guy would not be able to take him.

Just when he was about to collide, Casper jumped against the wall, planting his left foot on it. He then propelled the body upwards, doing a backflip.

The giant, with his explosive and uncontrolled speed past below the soldier. Once again his body smashed against the thick wall and he sank inside the concrete with a loud explosion. Such was the power of the collision that all the foundations of the canteen trembled and the wall seemed to shake, too.

Casper finished the maneuver, landing on both feet. At the exact moment when he did, a sharp pain could be felt in his left ankle. He cursed again, looking at it with frustration.

"I don't know how much my ankle will keep steady. I am worried to crack my bones again. The nursery said that it's not totally healed…" Casper bit his lips, praying silently. "Please, don't come again. It has to be enough."

But it was not enough. The reality hit Casper when he saw that the Barbarian started to get himself out of that big hole into the wall. He was bleeding in different parts and had bruises all over. Concrete and dust debris covered his body.

However, he was walking like anything mattered at all. The wounds did not affect him.

Casper realized that his muscles were not just for show or strength performance. They were like an armor as well, such was its stiffness. Probably, no damage was capable to pierce through those muscles. His body was wounded outside, but inside, he had no harm.

"The most effective way to debilitate someone in a fight is harming the bones, nerves, tendons, and organs. However, if I can't reach any of those, then I have nothing left to do…" The soldier was frustrated. Again, the technology of that world was letting him without outs.

The Barbarian did not give Casper the time to think more. He ran again towards him, kicking the ground and closing the distance in a matter of seconds.

He charged his huge arms backward and slammed them against Casper. The White warrior was quick in his response and gave a huge leap, retrieving.

That giant hit nothing but the floor itself, and the results sent chills down Casper's spine. He barely could believe when his arms sank into the ground until the elbow, breaking all the concrete.

He gave another warcry, pulling his harmed and bruised hands out of the ground and charging towards Casper again, this time with such speed that the soldier could not react in time.

The Barbarian's left hand cut the air, reaching Casper in a matter of seconds. The last couldn't dodge, the only way was to defend, but he was not able to hold such a powerful attack.

Casper jumped from the floor and kicked upwards with all his might the giant's hand right on the wrist. It helped to deflect the course of the attack, and it just scratched Casper's cheek.

The soldier could hear the sharp noise of the punch next to his ear. It was strong to the point of make pressure in the air.

He tried to make some distance from him, but his pressure was endless. One punch after another, he made Casper retrieve even more. It got to the point when he could not maintain his balance, and his dodge maneuvers started to be more ungainly.

Each blow got closer to him than the other.

"I can't just keep up like this! I need to find a way to counterattack now!" Casper ducked, dodging another blow that nearly struck his forehead. Instead of back again, he kicked the ground and rushed forward.

It was an unexpected turn of events that left the Barbarian shocked. But he was not reasoning to fight there. Everything he could think was to beat Casper until the final remnant of life in his body vanished.

The giant tried to retaliate, but Casper had already started his own movement. He slid to the ground and utilized the power of the impulse to kick hard the man in his ankle.

However, instead of causing any harm, Casper felt like he just hit a pile of rocks. The exact moment when his right foot struck something, he stopped to slid.

He looked up, and the giant was just looking at him intently with those murderous eyes behind the sad mask.

The soldier panicked and tried to roll to the side, nevertheless, he was not quick enough.

The Barbarian held his leg, squeezing so hard that Casper felt that it would be completely smashed.

He lifted him with incredible facility and while screaming crazily, he swung Casper's body in the air and tried to slam him on the ground with all his might.

But, Casper would not let him do it. Before he could realize it, the soldier was grabbing him by the neck, doing his best to prevent the giant to play with his body as if he was a puppet.

The Barbarian tried to pull him off, but couldn't. Casper's right leg was receiving too much pressure, and he felt that it would tear apart at any time.

His opponent tried to grab him with another hand, yet before he could do so, Casper charged one of his hands and pierced his right eye with the fingers.

Immediately, he started to scream like a crazy beast. It was so loud, that Casper's ears seemed to be about to explode, making him let go of his neck.

The giant swung him again but this time threw him in the air.

Casper slammed his back against the ceiling of the canteen, which was about 4 meters tall. He made sure to put his arms above his head, to prevent it to hit hard.

The soldier started to think while in the middle air. His head was confused, but it was a live or die type of situation. If he did not manage to gain control of his body and fall on his feet like a cat, he would be in serious trouble.

Casper used his weight to make his body keep as straight as possible while falling.

When he reached the ground, he used his legs as springs to absorb part of the impact, don't letting his knee too stiff, and followed with a somersault.

"Crap!" He yelled after he finished the maneuver. He did everything perfectly, but it still harmed his legs, and his back was burning in pain.

With a huge effort, he got up from the floor. His lungs were hurting so much that he couldn't breathe well. He also felt as though his knees were made of glass.

"Don't worry! That's nothing compared to other wounds you had before. It's just the initial shock, you did more than well, soldier!" He motivated himself, muttering.

The Barbarian was still screaming and smashing everything that was in his sight. His enormous fists were all covered in blood, due to the consecutive blows in hard objects.

However, he did not stop attacking.

"It's good that he is going mad now, he can't differentiate me from a metallic table. I am sure that it will not last more than some minutes, but it's enough for me to recover…"

Casper continued crouched on the ground, circling that giant and getting out of his view.

He had to be careful with the prisoners who he was fighting against as well, but everyone seemed to be already engaged in a fight.

He hid behind a turned table and took deep breathes.

Casper peeked at the Battlefield once again. Despite the Barbarian, the battle was at its peak. It had been just some minutes of action, and it surely would last for more.

Casper wasn't aware of who was the enemy and who was an ally, so he could not identify which side was winning.

"Anyway, it doesn't matter who will win this in the final, as long as we can't knock Ragnar out."

Suddenly, he noticed that a ruckus was happening at the entrance of the canteen. The prisoners started to scream and the sounds of the fight got more intensified.

Soon, Casper realized what was going on. He had predicted that it would be like that, but still, it was hard to believe.

"Reinforcements! Crap! How they could just call reinforcements!? Nobody except the Ridires was supposed to know about this, damn!" Casper was not sure, but it had something to do with Ragnar and his power.

"If this canteen gets more chaotic and messy, soon people will start to get out of here! The battle can't spread even more!"

Just as he was about to stand up, someone hit the table he was behind, sending it flying with him.

Hopefully, he noticed the approach and put both hands in front of his body.

The Barbarian cried again, his right eye messed up.

"Anyway… Before I do something else… I need to deal again with this freaking bastard…" Casper get up slowly and straightened his posture. "I am getting pissed off."
