Chapter 54 - Ambition

Casper had completed his third day in the prison. It has been four days since he had been gone.

"I wonder what Vick and the others are doing right now… Maybe they are going crazy because of disappearance… Yeah, I think that's it. Now, I have a major idea as to why I am so special for don't have a mask. In the end, my superpower in this world is my free will… Shitty power." He clicked his tongue while talking.

Without noticing, Casper had acquired a habit to talk to himself in these days that he passed in lockdown.

It was probably something that he would set aside once he got out there, but it was still interesting to observe how his mental state was changing because of that experience, even though he was used to that sort of thing.

Being an ex-military of the Yanke Forces, a spy or agent that would often be among the enemies, right inside dangerous territories, Casper would often get caught in the action and arrested.

His first time going to jail was painful and sad, and he needed to be rescued. Nonetheless, with time, and many more experiences, he learned how to take care of himself in situations like that.

He started to remember all his painful and crazy days at the Yanke Forces and he got a bit proud of himself for still be alive after all those years.

Then, a metallic loud sound echoed through the room, making Casper brush off his thoughts and pay total attention to the surroundings.

A Ridire had opened the door and looked inside the room to Casper. He made sure that everything was normal inside there, then gave a step to the side, releasing the exit.

"You can go out for now. Since you are new here, you can't get a full period in the lockdown."

"Aah, I see. That's awesome. As if two days could not be considered 'full time'." He stood up while rolling his eyes and walking towards the exit.

"The full period of light punishment is one week, White warrior. That's Halden for you." He pushed Casper to make him move quickly, then shut the door and locked it again.

He grabbed Casper by the wrists and then put handcuffs on him.

"Let's head to the nursery first, we need to see if something wrong happened with your wounds…"

"I wonder if something wrong was exactly what you, bastards, were wanting to see occurring, like an infection or something." He thought, wanting to beat that guard in front of him.

Casper and he walked for some time. Casper did not bother that much in talking with the guy. He was focused now trying to memorize the path from the lockdown to the nursery.

If he kept in mind every single path he passed by on that prison, he would surely be able to sort out a good part of its structure and map all corridors and rooms.

The first thing to do when you want to escape from prison was to have a good idea of each corner from its structure.

As soon as he could map everything there, the other parts of the plan could start.

After some turns and stairs, passing through a few corridors, they could make it to the nursery. That was not the same that he visited before being interrogated, which meant that the prison could not be exactly in the same place as that hidden part of the laboratory.

Casper entered there, confirming immediately that the equipment they used to treat the patients there was not so good as the ones he witnessed in the Castle's Healer's room or in the another nursery he went.

Casper sat on one of the beds and waited for a nurse to go assist him.

It took a while, but someone finally went to give him a check-up. This time, the nurse was not so gentle as the last one he met. She was kind of rude as well, and it displeased Casper.

"Well, I got stuck in a lockdown, wet and wounded, for two days. Why the heck am I complaining about a nurse!?"

After some time inspecting Casper's condition, she finished with him.

"You pushed pretty badly your ankle, and for what I could see it's not the first time. Every recovery it had before is now gone. Unfortunately, we don't have any sophisticated gadgets here, so you will be receiving just the basics and then recovering by yourself.

"Your shoulder and forearm are not so harmed, their wounds only opened. But I need to warn you that, if you keep up like this, you will end up never moving your arm above the shoulder line again. Got it all?"

She was short and gross in her explanation, saying everything in a carefree tone, as though she did not care even slightly if Casper just exploded in front of her.

The soldier even had his doubts if she was saying the truth, but he was not a doctor or a nurse, so he could not refute her at all.

While he was sat on the bed, being examined, he spotted a balcony in a corner of the nursery. There, a man noted in some papers some things that Casper could not know. However, he was not interested in what that guy was writing at all. The soldier was paying attention to something else…

The woman treated his wounds, giving special attention to sanitizing them; she wrapped bandages around and gave him a pill, that probably was to prevent his wounds to get infected.

When the nurse went to another part of the room to get those pills, he swiftly left his bed and went to that balcony, the man taking notes was too absorbed in his work to notice Casper sneaking and picking some papers. He also stole a pencil, then hid it all behind his clothes and returned to his original position.

"Hmpf, who said that I need my two hands free to steal something? I can even beat someone with these handcuffs put in my wrists and ankles."

Some of the prisoners who were there (mostly because of him) looked at Casper.

The White warrior just returned their gazes with one of his brows raised.

In the end, nobody really wanted to report, so they just turned their heads to the other side and pretended not to notice.

It did not take so long for the nurse to arrive, and after the medication, Casper was released to be able to go back to his cell.

He also made sure to memorize every corridor and stair they went from the infirmary to the cell.

The guard said on the communicator to open the cell B-32, and then the gate opened automatically.

Casper also took note of that matter. The cells were controlled by someone, and this person was called by the communicator every time a cell needed to be opened.

"This is precious information. I can take advantage of it afterward."

Before he walked into there, the Ridire took off his handcuffs, while another one kept a look at them just in the case that Casper tried something.

The soldier entered the cell, walking calmly towards his bed and sitting. He looked at the warrior that was still standing in front of the gate. That man stayed there for a few minutes before getting away from Casper's view.

"Welcome again, Casper." He heard the sympathetic voice.

"Thank you, Anton. It's good to be back for now."

"For now, huh? Anton wonder if is there a day when you pretend not to come back, White warrior?" Anton giggled.

Casper took the papers and pencil hidden under his clothes, with a grin on his face.

The middle-aged man gazed at those papers and to what Casper was trying to do; it was not difficult to sort out what was his objective.

"So, you have this type of ambition, huh?" He got out of his bed, walking towards Casper and looking more closely at the draws he was making.

It was incredible how precise and detailed he could be in those sketches as if he was in that prison for decades.

It was not perfect, but good enough for someone who was there for just four days.

"Anton can help you with your ambition depending on your potential." He said, looking intently to Casper behind that black mask, emphasizing the "potential".

"Great. And don't worry. You will see my potential with time. And… I can let you tag along, but it will depend on your… potential as well." Casper replied, glancing at him.

"Hehe, that's a deal. But, if something goes wrong, Anton will do his best to escape unscathed and leave you behind. Anton can even blame you for everything." He warned.

"Sure. Now, show me your potential and look to the corridor to see if someone is coming. Quickly!"

"Okay, okay." With his usual noiseless step, Anton got close to the gate.

"But, don't forget, boy: you are in Halden."

"Yeah, I know… And it's better that they don't forget who is in Halden now."
