Chereads / District 42 / Chapter 49 - Interrogation

Chapter 49 - Interrogation

Casper was astonished by what he just heard. He had a good idea of how much of a fuss he made that day. Invade the Third Lab until its lower levels was no small feat, after all.

Still, he had knocked out some Ridire and even fought an Aesir, which seemed to be the encharged by the security squad of the Third Lab.

However, Casper did not predict that such a big fish would appear in front of his eyes, willing to talk with him.

He expected Freygar, that girl beside him, a Ridire, or an influential scientist inside there, but not the big boss of that place.

"I think that the dimension of my actions surpassed any expectations in the end… Everything was orchestrating to go wrong, and it all started when I got suspected by Vick…" He started to see every single fail he committed in his plan, and regret a lot of things. However, Casper was a practical person, he was not belittling himself, but learning from his mistakes.

Catrine noticed that Casper was a bit aloof for a while, and then cleared her throat, making him get back to the conversation.

"So… What about we get started here, hm? How about it?"

"Sure." Casper nodded, seeing that she was starting to open the black cloth she brought with her.

"First, I need to explain some rules for you Casper." She said, with a fake kind tone of voice.

She finished unfolding the cloth, and inside there was a rectangular thing with two balls in each extreme, one red and another green.

"This device is a Lies detector. It is already linked with you, and will receive your brain waves and process it, showing green if it's true, and red when it's a lie."

"Right…." Casper looked to her, narrowing his eyes and tensioning his jaw. "So what?"

"Good that you questioned, Casper. Actually, there is another little thing. This chair you are, as you may have noticed, is not a common one. It will receive a signal from this lie detector every time you lie. When it receives 3 signals, the chair will send a shock wave through its body… And kill you."

Casper looked at her calmly and coldly. He took another discreet, yet deep, breath. His heartbeat was crazy, but he was managing to get himself calmed down once again

"Sure." He said, smiling. "You can start now."

The woman seemed to be amazed by his courage and composure. She let the lies detector in the center of the table and then activated it.

"Well then, let's start… First, Casper, are you working with the Princess?"

"We are working together… more or less. It's kind of a deal." He looked at the detector, and the green ball shone.

"Right… I suppose that it has something to do with your stay in the Main Lab, right?"

"Sorta." He answered subjectively. That thing went green.

The scientist did not seem too pleased about the response.

"Are you working in that Lab because of her? Yes or not?"

"It can be…"

"Yes or not, Casper?"

Casper rolled his eyes in response, abstaining from speaking and clicking his tongue.

Suddenly, the dispositive went red, and a chill was sent through his body.

"What the…?"

"Ah… Sorry… I forgot to say that, whenever you don't answer my questions, it will send a signal as well, hehe.

"Anyway, I will question again: you are there because of her, right?"

"Yes."

"Does she want to know about your origins?" Casper nodded.

Apparently, an answer with just corporal gestures was enough, because it went green.

"Who are you?"

"Casper."

"Where you came from?"

"Earth."

"What's your intentions?"

"None."

"What you exactly is?"

"It depends on the perspective, ma'am"

The scientist was about to explode. Her hands were trembling in anger.

Even under such pressure, Casper could maintain his cool and think in short answers that did not show much about him, subjective ones, or half-truths.

No matter how much Catrina tried to pressure him, he would not be destabilized at all. Sometimes, he would even take several seconds to answer something, thinking meticulously about what he should answer.

"What do you were intending to do here?" She asked, impatiently.

"I was trying to invade here."

"Why?"

"Because I was gathering information."

She clicked her tongue, thinking.

"And what kind of information?"

"Information of my interest." He shrugged, seeming to be carefree about that situation.

Unfortunately for Catrine, she could not resolute for torture, not at that point.

She had good contacts and knew that Casper was getting along well with Vick. If she did something of the sort with him, things would be difficult for sure.

Then, she remembered something and smiled behind the mask.

"Was you that man who appeared in Uppsala? The one with black clothes?"

"There is a lot of people with black clothes out there…" The red ball went red.

"You did not answer me, Casper." She said, in a slow and threatening voice. "Was you that man?"

That was the last chance of Casper. If he could not find a way out, he would be surely cornered by her.

He did not know why she was so hungry to obtain more information about him. If he let slip out something important or dangerous, he possibly would be in serious trouble. He could not trust that woman.

"Yeah…" He answered after a considerably long while. "I am that man." It went green.

"I see… That's great. Thank you for answering me, Casper." She said happily.

"You are welcome, Catrine. But, what will you do with this information?"

"Hehe, it will serve as a reason to keep you in the prison. In the prison of the Third Lab, I mean."

"I see…" Casper felt that a lot of weight had been put on his shoulders. He felt exhausted.

However, there was hope. He had built it with his own hands.

"A reason, huh? Understood…" He gave a faint smile.

Ignoring him, the lady got up and then called the Ridire.

"Blindfold him and take him to the ceil we designated, ok, fellas?" The two answered with energetic nods.

They entered the room, took Casper out of the chair, then once again put that bag on his head.

Vick was strolling around the floor where Casper lived. It was morning already and the artificial lights of the Castle were at their peak.

Sometimes, she preferred not to teleport so closely to the residential zone where he was staying, because do a little walk once a day was a must to her.

Since Casper had arrived, Vick was struggling every single day, which was something uncommon for her, who always had been pampered and could lazy around as much as she wanted all the day.

Some responsibilities always came, though, and even more after the sickness of her father and after reaching adulthood.

The more time she spent at the General Court, the more she wanted to curse and just frighten each idiot Jarl of second category that showed up.

She could not accept that those people had so many conveniences and wealth in their lives and still wanted more.

Vick could have turned into a greedy person, due to growing up in a real family as the only children. However, being surrounded by everything she ever wanted, sort of vanished her greedy for material things.

For her, money had as much value as the tree leaves fallen on the ground. And have as much meaning for her as a grain of sand.

Because of it, she could not understand why people were so ambitious to always want more and more money, prestige, and power.

She held all those things, and it was not the least funny or interesting.

When something like Casper happened, she would always pay the bill.

Casper had value to her, talking about politics, society, economic and emotional matter.

Currently, every day she needed to attend meetings, judicial cases, life threats, negotiations and arguments, everything because of a single man.

There were just three people in District 42 that did not use a mask. And not a single one in the world that did not have a GBI. Casper was an object of undetermined value and a weapon of immense danger.

Who had the White warrior on their hands, would have the district, and the world as well if they managed to use him correctly.

Just the existence of that man could trigger off a war. Without a GBI, he was beyond any of the Two Global Rules of that world.

That was Casper's power.

And that's why the Princess wanted to keep him so badly.

Her father had warned: "If you let him escape from your hands, everything we know will shatter."

It was her mission to protect Casper from the world… And protect the world from Casper.

Thinking about all those things, she could not notice that she was already in front of Casper's door.

She used her Universal card to open the door and then entered.

"Casper! I am here!" She said, in a cheerful voice, trying to hide her exhaustion.

No one responded.

"C-Casper?" Her voice trembled for no reason.

The Princess had a bad omen.
