Chapter 32 - The end of the shift

Casper ran out of the laboratory, making sure that Katarina could not keep up with his pace.

For the plan he had made for that day, it was crucial for Casper to get out of the laboratory without getting stuck there for the interview and check-up.

Every two days he had to stay for a little longer into the laboratory and head for a special section that was made just to study his case.

Everyone there was trying to find out what Casper was (which they already discovered), where he came from and how it happened.

The study was made by people from all the laboratories.

The Main Lab was on stand-by for now, since they could not do much with the researches at that point. But they would help out the other people as they could.

Since they are specialized in Mechanical Engineering and stuff, they were designed to study a way to remake a machine or device that could reproduce the phenomenon that occurred with Casper. As well as offer some equipment that could help out in the studies.

The Second Lab would be in charge of anatomical examinations on Casper's body. They were working hard there. The Second Lab was the one that interacted with him the most.

The Third Lab was studying how dangerous Casper could turn out to be; whether he had any special quirks or not, and searching more about his psychological state and ideals.

The last two parts were also a job from the Fourth laboratory, that was trying to dig into his past, the culture of his world, and what were Casper's intentions.

Everyone there did not even know whether Casper was in that world because he wanted to or if he was unwilling.

The White warrior was not so offended by that indictment, since it was coherent. They knew that Casper was not dumb, so he could easily manipulate everyone with such a thing.

However, although the Labs were working really hard together, Casper did not cooperate the least.

He was not willing to be totally exposed so early. He wanted to take advantage of their ignorance about his past and nature for longer, at least until he could accomplish certain things.

Because of it, in every interview they did with him, Casper would answer the total reverse of what he had said.

He would often run away from the Lab to avoid being studied more and made them lost hours and hours of researching.

That day, he was also trying to slow them down, but also because he needed the time he would spend there.

This way, Casper got out of the Lab.

Amazingly, Adam rarely stayed at the Lab for the night. He always preferred to go back to his home.

However, Casper was aware that he would not sleep anyway, so it did not matter if he was in his house (that was basically a Laboratory as well) or in the Main Lab.

At that hour of the day, Adam was a destroyed man. He walked dragging his feet, with the spine curved and his eyes even more dead than a corpse.

Casper reached him, then walked next to him. Adam was so tired that he never bothered to stop Casper and make him go back to the Lab. Though he did not seem the type of guy who would do it.

Casper even tried a bit to talk with him, but apparently, his brain was incapable to receive any external influence.

He did a strange movement with his hand and reached the pocket of Casper's white coat.

He brushed Adam's hand for pure reflection. His body could not forget to be always alarmed with his surroundings and the people around there, even a good friend like Adam.

"H-Hey, bro, calm down. You seem more drunk than sleepy right now, you know?" Casper said, as an excuse for his behavior, since nobody at the Lab knew of his real abilities.

Sometimes Adam would be like that, as though his mind suddenly turned off and he started to operate on autopilot.

Casper was not concerned whether he would guide him to home or not, because even in that state Adam could always remember to do it.

The White warrior hated to be so dependent on other people for the most simple things. But he could not let anyone know of what type of knowledge he already gathered with him.

That said, he always brushed it off and let himself feel how it was to be a kid again.

As always, it did not take too long for him to reach his home. In a matter of minutes, he was already in front of the building.

Of course, it would be even more convenient if he could be teleported inside his apartment already, but there was a law in which nobody could teleport inside any type of construction.

To make sure that no one would break that rule, whoever the people who did the maintenance of those Teleport pads blocked the coordinates of all the area inside every building in the Castle.

Casper sometimes tried to find a flaw in the Teleporting pads' software, but it was perfect, as it seemed.

"Thank you, Adam. May we met again tomorrow." Casper said while turning around and waving at Adam.

Nonetheless, Adam was already walking away looking like a sloth.

Casper did not know if he was sorry or if he admired the guy.

"Hmmm?" Casper had put his hands inside the pocket of his coat and felt that there was a paper inside.

He took a peek at the paper. In capital letters was written on the top of the paper "That's important for you!"

"Important for me? Why did he give me this? He could not just speak… Ah, true, he could not…."

Casper walked inside the building and headed to the elevator. He decided to read it inside his apartment. Probably Adam wanted him to study that message, so Casper could not just read that as though it was a casual letter.

Casper used his green card to open the lock of his door and then entered quickly.

He was about to open the paper that Adam gave to him, but then his mind warned him that something was out.

Casper noticed that the lights were turned on. The curtains he had closed before leave were wide open, and the windows as well.

There were doors that should not be opened, things moved from their respective places…

Casper let the letter aside, removing his shoes and walking calmly through the apartment, with his eyes narrowed.

He reached the kitchen and opened a drawer slowly, picking up a knife.

"Damn it… It is being an entire month that I don't wield a fire gun and I am missing it already."

Casper noticed that his breathing was not controlled, his posture was incorrect and he almost forgot to position the forearms correctly to protect the sides of his trunk.

All of these were details, but crucial ones. As Casper was for so long time without entering in action or train, his body was a bit confused.

After reaching his bedroom, he leaned his head against the door, held his breath, and closed his eyes, listening carefully.

After some seconds trying to concentrate, he heard a regular and calm breath from the inside of his bedroom.

Whoever that person was, they were not feeling any anxiety or excitement. Their body was not producing lots of adrenaline.

There were two options: first, it was not a threat. Second, the person inside there was dangerous enough to have the coldness of an assassin.

"We will discover now…" Casper held the knife more tightly and opened the door slowly, glancing inside the bedroom.

The first and more relevant thing his eyes noticed was a sad mask with a hexagonal texture and that seemed to be made of white wood.

The second was a hair of so light blondness that was almost silver.

Casper let his breathe go out at once and opened the door without discretion.

The sudden noise made the Princess jump from the bed she was sitting in. She gave a surprised little scream and then looked to the entrance.

"Ah, Casper, it's you… Pheew." She put her hand on her chest and sighed in relief.

"Yes! Of course, it's me! I am the one who lives here, did you forget!?"

"Of course not! Hmpf, you are always so gross…"

"I don't sneak into someone's house, right? Differently of you!"

"You insolent… I was waiting for you, got it?"

Vick was stubborn and pampered as always. She regularly would come to see Casper and talk with him a bit. She did it once she got the opportunity to visit the laboratories and check if the researchers were doing any signs of progress.

More than one time, she scolded Casper because he was breaking their deal. Everyone in the laboratory was complaining that he often slacked in the check-ups, did not contributed anything in the interviews, and tried to sabotage the researches in different ways.

Casper always said that that was just a lie because they were not accomplishing anything in their researches and were trying to blame him on it since he was an underdog.

He knew that the scientists working on a project for someone so important like Vick would get crazy because of the deadline. So he used it as a reason for their "lies".

The Princess could not choose a side to believe, so she always left the situation just scolding both parts and threatening them.

However, Casper could not hide this fact forever, and he did not know what Vick would feel or do if she found it out.

Casper felt that he could rest assured for now, since he struggled all that month to build a good relationship with Vick.

Every conversation they had was a bit more of a progress for Casper. He was a man who was trained to understand the foundations of human psychology and persuasion. More than one time he needed to use those abilities, like in situations where hostages and negotiations were involved, or when he needed to manipulate someone.

Also, he knew very well how to touch someone's heart, particularly girls.

He was working on melt Vick's heart and gain her trust, so he could use her as he pleased.

Casper did not like to be so cruel and cold, but he did not outrightly dislike either, if it was for a good reason.

Now, what he needed was contacts and contacts with powerful people.

The first one he decided to gain entrustment was a big fish, but the hard work would surely pay off if he did everything correctly.

Casper sighed, then walked towards the Princess and smiled at her, as a way of apologizing.

"Brush it off. It was my fault since you always come to make company to me. Sit here." Casper sat on the bed and called her to sit next to him.

Timidly and hesitantly, she sat in an elegant way.

"You don't need to act like this with me, remember?"

"Yeah, sometimes I forget." She shrugged, glaring at him.

"Why you came in such a day? It was meant to you visit here just tomorrow."

"Do you dislike me being here a day earlier?"

Casper could even imagine the pout she was doing behind her mask. It was a good signal.

"Nah… It makes things easier." He said, then giggled.

She giggled as well, but awkwardly.

Sometimes Casper really wondered if they were enemies or friends.

The military man inside him viewed her as a tactical enemy, who Casper was always in an intellectual battle.

However, his more human side said that she was a good woman and a friend. They were interacting for an entire month after all.

"Hey, Casper… Let's walk a bit outside."

"It's night, although I am okay with it. But, why is that?"

Vick seemed to not hear the last question, or she just ignored it. The Princess stood up and walked towards the door to leave the bedroom
