The Orsk, seemingly blinded by rage bounded towards Lisa, it's arms spread out and it's eyes set with a killing intent.
Vibrations rocked the earth beneath them at every step the large creature took. Lisa was backed up against a tree, releasing bouts of air to knock the Orsk back, but her attacks were hardly making any impact.
The Orsk strode forward without any difficulty, with only one mission in mind.
As the Orsk reached the tree, it unleashed a back hand, Lisa dove away just in time as the hand came crashing into the tree, almost tearing it in half.
"This is bad" Lisa breathed, as she saw the damaged tree. Tony had already regained his vision and was trying with slight difficulty to nock an arrow.
The Orsk was immediately on Lisa's tail as it moved away from the tree and followed her retreating footsteps.
Tony had read about Orsk's, they had great capacity and stamina and also insane brute strength but it either lacked a brain or couldn't use much of what it had to think and to kill it you have to either batter it or lop off it's head but there was the option of damaging it's eyes which was almost impossible to Tony.
To hit the slit eyes on it's face was almost impossible especially with his current state and level. But he had to try as there was no other choice.
Tony shot the first arrow, hoping to gain the demon's attention.
"Rrrraaagghhh" the Orsk bellowed in pain and anger as a hand quickly flew to it's neck, the arrow had gone half way in.
The Orsk pulled the arrow out, roaring in pain and turned to face Tony forgetting all about Lisa.
Tony had already nocked the second arrow, he tried to steady his shot as the Orsk came running this time.
The narrow slits of it's eyes still a bit distant, Tony tries to keep his hands steady.
"Seven… six…" Tony began counting down as the Orsk approached him in a canter.
Lisa could see Tony had nocked his arrow, but she wondered why he hadn't fired. The Orsk was gaining on him and it would be on him in seconds.
"TONY!!! TONY!!!" she screamed
"Four… three… two…" ignoring her Tony continued counting.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" the horror and despair in her voice was almost evident, her voice was already breaking and she was on the verge of tears. She knew that nothing else could be done to save Tony.
"One…" Tony fired the arrow, it seemed time slowed down for a moment, Tony could see the arrow leave the bow and slowly but purposefully glide in the air heading straight for the Orsk.
"Ssew" the arrow whistled past the Orsk's face barely missing him by an inch. Tony knew he was fucked, he closed his eyes not wanting to see the Orsk impale him into the tree.
"Noooooo" Lisa screamed in tears as her knees dropped to the floor, they were supposed to be a team but she couldn't even do much to take down a level five demon. What was she going to tell the others.
The sound of a faint thud made Tony open his eyes, the Orsk lay dead in his front, an arrow sticking through it's eyes and out the back of it's head, with a slow movement he turned his head around to see Levi running toward him and Annabeth returning her bow to her shoulder.
"What are you guys doing" Levi thundered
"Trying to get themselves killed, it seems" Annabeth smiled at them.
"Anna" Lisa cried, going over to where she stood and hugging her tightly with tears dripping from her wet eyes "I'm sorry" she cried into Anna's shoulder.
"It's alright" Anna reassured her, patting her back with her free hand. Tony simply grunted.
"Are you guys alright" Levi's voice softened a bit as he saw the blood on Tony's head.
"Yeah" Tony replied through gritted teeth. He was quite grateful for their help even though he was angry he hadn't been able to take down the Orsk by himself.
Levi helped Tony up and they walked back to the tent. Kayla, Jake and Levi had already made it back to the tent when Levi and the others got back, they were sitting on a log just outside the tent when they turned to see Levi and Anna supporting a limping Tony.
"Tony!" Kayla cried, Percy and Jake stood up and rushed to collect him from their arms linking theirs with his.
"Are you alright?" her voice was seriously laden with concern, there was a little gash on his head and his hair was matted with dry blood.
She motioned for them to get him to the tent, she rushed in and got her bag, they laid him on a mat in front of the tent.
Kayla knelt beside Tony and gently washed the blood from his hair, using a basin of water and a small towel, then she bandaged his wounds and gave him a bitter potion to swallow.
Then she place her hand over his leg and tried to restore his dislocated ankle using magic. After she was done, she had him like down to avoid a concussion from the hit to his head.
The others were seated at the log in front of the tents. Levi had concluded that they would sleep in the woods because it was already late and they could not go in search of the last demon in the dark.
Suddenly arrows were being nocked and swords drawn. Jake, Anna and Levi suddenly turned startling the rest of them.
"Something is coming" Levi announced.
"Hmm" Jake silently agreed.
Everyone else immediately taking battle stance turned to the direction the three were facing.
The huge form of an Orsk shedding trunks and trampling dead branches and plants scattered on the floor bulldozed out of the forest.
Kayla shrieked in surprise, Tony immediately raised his head and turned. Before the Orsk had a chance to take two steps, it was met with a barrage of arrows, a knife and a combination of fire and wind. The Orsk dropped dead before it even had a chance to attack.
"Whew" Percy whistled, that was quick.
"Two down, one to go" said Levi as he returned his sword to his scabbard.
"Do we get to go if the last one rushes out at us like that?" Percy asked Levi.
"Even if we do manage to kill the last one, the sun is almost set. We wouldn't make it to school before night fall"
"I guess, it's a good thing we set up the tents then" Percy remarked.
Percy and Levi had caught a rabbit in the bushes, they started a fire and roasted the rabbit, while Jake helped Lisa and Kayla make rabbit stew. Annabeth still pouted in her disapproval of killing a cute little rabbit that could do no one any harm, they had made the fire in front of the tents. Tony moved his mat close to the tents to eat with the others and also to bask in the warmth of the flames.
They got their food in small paper plates that had surprisingly found their way into one of the bags. Anna reluctantly dug in after staring at the stew for some minutes. Kayla sat beside Tony to make sure he had whatever he needed in order to avoid continuous movement of his head, he had to reassure her that he was okay before she would give him a little breathing space.
"Tony" Percy called with a mischievous little grin and a twinkle in his eyes "how loud did you scream when you saw the demon" he chuckled among with a few others
"Believe me, you'll scream louder when I impale you with my fork" Tony eyed him.
"Hope you didn't piss your pants?" Percy smirked at him
"Ow" Percy howled as Lisa drove her elbow into his ribs, more laughter erupted around the fire at his expression.
"Stop it. Tony fought bravely, we were caught unaware and almost paid for it dearly, but I'm glad Anna and Levi came when they did"
"How did you know to shoot it in the eye?" Tony asked
"You're not the only one who reads, you know"
"So what we fought today was an Orsk?" Levi asked, Tony and Anna nodded in unison.
"Since Tony and Anna already know some of the demons and their weaknesses, we will travel in larger groups and we'll have to reshuffle ourselves, but that'll be in the morning. We have to get some rest, we will set out in the morning so we can quickly get done with the mission and return to school.
We'll take turns watching. Tony is exempted, we have to make sure he heals by the morning. Who will take the first watch, Kayla?" he asked after a little pause.
"Okay"
"Ill take second watch" Levi offered
"Third" Lisa called
"Fourth" Annabeth said
"Fifth" Jake
"Last watch" Percy drawled. Already yawning. It sounded like a recited script, as though they had it all planned out.
They understood their selves perfectly there was no need for dispute.
"Alright, I'll go in" Percy stood and helped Tony inside the tent. Even though he had teased Tony he was actually relieved that they had come back safely.
