"Ahhhh."
Unknowingly, Hugo found himself screaming, he didn't realize the reason until he saw the clear skies becoming farther away.
'Shit, I'm falling!'
The wind lashed against his face and planted kisses of death on his lips.
He found himself unable to react properly to the wind pressure and gravity's pull, but still tried to resist somehow.
'Damn it! It isn't working.'
With each second wasted, gravity kept pulling him towards the embrace of the earth.
'Uhh, shit what do I do?!'
The unnecessary thoughts wasted his short time successfully, and Hugo found himself closer to death than he ever, he closed his eyes waiting for it to come; it was then that he felt the throbbing in his heart.
Hugo abruptly opened his eyes and grabbed onto the ache in his soul.
"Black Matter Conjuring: Jet Black Wings!"
The throbbing stopped and Hugo no longer fell, but this time around, he was floating and gliding across the air.
He felt something within him cry for joy and jump up and down in happiness.
It was in this world that for the first time, Hugo felt his powers agreeing with him, and the feeling was... Amazing!
"WOOHOOO!"
He yelled out as he performed circles in the air. The wind's lashes no longer felt painful, instead, they embraced him, like a mother to her child.
The feeling was so nice that he didn't feel like leaving the air, well until...
"Ahhh!"
'Huh, what's that sound?'
Hugo tried his best to ignore the sun's rays piercing his eyes, but he made out the vague silhouette of someone falling.
'Shit, that guy's falling, gotta save him!'
He dashed upward, towards the falling man in an attempt of saving him.
"Hold up, I got you!"
He held his hands out when he reached beneath the body of the falling person.
"Ugh! Freaking heavy!"
Only then did Hugo realize what kind of burden he had in his arms. But something pumped power into his arms, supplying him with the strength.
'That throbbing again!'
Hugo realized the source and felt the weight on his arms feeling lighter than before.
In case the effect was only temporary, Hugo rushed towards the ground to drop the falling person.
'Please don't be temporary, please don't be temporary, please don't be temporary.'
As he neared the ground, the only thing he could think about was the throb, as long as Hugo figured it out, he might never feel difficulty or restraint when using his powers again, and for someone who felt the strain caused by using his own inborn abilities, this prospect made him more excited than ever.
Upon reaching the ground, Hugo tried to call off his ability, but it seemed slightly hesitant to leave, so instead of calling off the ability completely, he removed the wings and let the strength in his arms stay.
'But, what exactly is this power though? I've used nothing like it before. I thought my power was a Conjuring type ability, now it displays Enhancement capabilities too? I'll need to research this later.'
Hugo made a mental note in his mind and focused on the task at hand.
"Eh? Him!"
Hugo looked at the face again and rubbed his eyes in shock. Was he seeing right at all? Maybe it was the heat coming from the desert that spanned for miles away but the person who he helped stop falling was Hyena!
'Fate has a way of doing annoying things to you!'
This was the last thing Hugo would have wished for, he had wanted to at least digest the information Avery gave him before confronting Hyena. But it also didn't seem like Hyena would enjoy his company.
"Oh, Fuck no!"
The man yelled out as he lay, sprawled out across the floor, staring into the cloudy sky.
"Of all the people I could have landed near, I got stuck with this arrogant and narcissistic young master! You could have left me with the other arrogant and narcissistic young master... but no! I just have to suffer!"
It was the first time Hugo had ever heard Hyena speak so much in a breath, but to think the words he said were insulting him.
"Not the first time I'm hearing it, don't care!"
Hugo replied in response to his insults and began walking away.
"Hey, you goddamn piece of shit, where are you going?!"
Hyena exclaimed from behind him.
"You don't want to be with the arrogant and narcissistic young master, right? Fine, I'll leave you to your own devices!"
"Heh, fuck you!"
Hugo didn't bother turning back to fight someone over insults he'd already heard before, and Hyena didn't like the kid from the start so why should he care if he left. But sadly, it seemed Fate had other plans for them.
"Candidate Hugo and Candidate Hyena have landed in the same spawning location, team has automatically formed!"
A mechanical voice boomed in Hugo and Hyena's ears, were they hearing right? Or was some bastard playing a sick trick?
The two ignored the voices and continued moving forward.
"Candidate Hugo and Hyena are a team!"
With each step they took, the voice became louder and they couldn't take it anymore. They turned back and marched towards the original spot.
"Is it you that is doing this?"
The two opposites asked simultaneously.
"No, I could have sworn it was you!" They exclaimed, responding to the earlier accusations.
The two candidates bickered for a few minutes before concluding that the other was not tricking them.
"Hmph, whatever, if we have to stay together, so be it! I will not work with this arrogant son of a bitch!"
"And I won't co-operate with this bastard dog!"
They flung insults back and forth, but then again, Fate had different plans.
Shriek!
A loud bird cry came into the ears of the candidates.
"Huh?!"
Hyena jumped into a fighting stance and looked around, his fist glowing with dark energy, ready to strike when the monster revealed itself.
Shriek!
The monster's shriek sounded out again, but this time around accompanying it was a pair of wings that had a span of over 15ft. The body of the bird was as large as its wings and its beak gleamed with a sharp aura.
"Haha, it's kick-ass time!" Hyena grinned evilly and covered his arm with more dark energy.
